Jordan Hairston and Laura De Jesus Artist Statement

When the circuit benchmark was first presented to us, we had a few ideas of what our main object could be because of what they mean to us. One of our ideas was to make a Nike check light up. The Nike check is the Nike Company's logo. The Nike check was an option because Nike is Laura's favorite sneaker brand. She wanted to run a circuit through a basketball sneaker and have the outlining of it shine. Another idea of Laura's was to run a circuit through the base of an iPhone case and light up the border of the Apple logo.
Even though these were good brainstorming ideas, we both found common ground with a music representation. As music lovers and musicians, our love for music inspired us to create our own eighth music note. The structure of the note could be sculpted out of clay and the way that it is neatly structured and decorated also shows our appreciation overall. We chose to create a eighth note instead of any other music note because it is a common design and representation of music overall. Other than a treble clef, the eighth note is a favorite of ours. The first sketch of our music note would have had original and addition designs to the border of it. We choose to decorate the eighth note in a way in which the note will sparkle and shine even when it is not lit up. From the color schemes of the box, to the amount of glitter sprinkled around the note, our sculpture is the best way to show our appreciation for music.

Laura and Jordan, your structure actually came out looking really nice. You really made your idea come from your minds, do the structure of you circuit. I think the red and black really compliments each other, good job you two.
