Seitz - Net Neutrality teen awareness

I think it is important for teens to know about net neutrality because in the upcoming years the internet will become more prominent in everyday society, and the people of the future will need to know their rights, and shouldn’t be held back from all the opportunities the internet has to offer. Without net neutrality, the internet service providers will be able to tell schools what they have teach their students, and what is appropriate for children to see. If they tell us what we need to know, then they are telling us what is wrong and right, even if what they think is controversial, and may be disagreed on by the majority of the country. For example the issue of Global Warming could be completely braised over by everyone because the i.s.p.’s don’t let websites with information about it through the fire wall.

Another reason why net neutrality is important for teens is because it promotes the spread of ideas, giving more opportunities to today’s youth. Everyones says how we will be the next generation of creators and innovators, but if our main source for information is being held back, then how do they expect us to reach that. If the I.S.P.s want to be part in making the next generation of geniuses, then they should take part in net neutrality. It is important that teens have as many opportunities as their parents, and as generations before. What is the use of the internet if you are restricted from all of the great things that it offers.

Finally a free and open internet promotes free speech. One of the things that all teens should have the opportunity to do, is to speak their minds, and of that is being taken away from todays youth then we will end up with a messed up generation of kids. In twenty to thirty years, imagine a society of people who are being suppressed because they are afraid that if they speak their mind, then it could lead to a punishment, or the put down of your ideas. This is just like the novel 1984, where no one can speak their minds, and no one has a chance to be independent. This is what I imagine could happen to us, this is what people should fear, and we should work on fixing it, for the teens today.

Madison's Slide #2

I learned a lot from the criticism of my first slide. For my second slide, I changed the layout but kept the same pictures and text. I chose three main points about myself: tumblr, cookies and cardigans. I enjoy tumblr. because it gives you a place for self expression through pictures, quotes, and videos. Cookies are one of my favorite foods. Cardigans are my fashion staple. I wear them with mostly every outfit I wear. I put these in the shape of a triangle because  the Zach Holman blog suggested that it makes the slide visually interesting. I chose the color blue because it is my favorite color. I put several cookies pictures because it shows repetition.

Tech Slide #2
I have changed a lot of details so my new slide can pop out more. Instead of just using contrast and bleeding, I made a bright frame and font color that's behind a collage of different pictures. In this slide, the wallpaper actually fits in with the title because the pictures are supposed to show experience of me journeying around the world. I changed the forest picture because I have see and experienced more things in life than just a forest. I changed the font to a more ¨uncivilized¨ type because the background shows natural havens which are wild compared to a city skyline. My new slide would catch people's attention more because the background doesn't mess up the message that I'm trying to get across.

Net Neutrality

Net neutrality is the idea that the internet should be free and monitored for all customers. The FCC, Federal Communications Commission, wants to over ride this and take this freedom away from us. The FCC wants companies like Verizon, AT&T and Comcast to charge their customers for faster internet. Certain companies such as Netflix or Google can pay to have their internet faster to your computer than other websites. Providers aren't allowed to do that.
If we do not have net neutrality, our phone and internet companies can slow down a certain website because a different website is paying your service provider more money. For example, Netflix can pay Verizon to play faster on your phone. But a friend is playing Netflix too with AT&T and it is slower. The FCC would also monitor what you are watching and design what you like. The ads that pop up websites are tailored to the websites that you've visited.
We should care about net neutrality because we need our freedom on the internet. We shouldn't be stripped of our rights on the internet. The people should be trusted with what they do on the internet. If you aren't educated on what net neutrality is, you should be. It's important to the way we surf the web.

Fatoumata Net Neutrality

Net 2
Net neutrality is a network that is designed by engineers and other people. The interent addict many teens because of the cyberbullying that be going on the internet or just the things that entertained the teens that make them so addict to the interent. I am as a teen that is addict to the internet i can be on it for 8 hours and i used the internet for school to so it will be another 8 hours again. Net neutrality is a internet that is open to the whole world and whenever you have a picture you may think its delete but its not delete at all. A closed internet have restricted to access on certain thing.

Why teens should know about Net neutrality is that internet is a useful thing when you need it for class or homework. But another reason is that women are very addicted to internet. One example is that students task a force to to the study of needs that we need on college campuses . All schools use interent so if people cut the net neutrality students would go crazy and would have to write homework and students will be exhausted writing down all these essays when you can just type it on your computer. Everybody would be so exhausted if we didnt have any interent.

http://www.freepress.net/blog/2014/09/29/without-net-neutrality-women-and-girls-will-lose-out-online

http://www.womenactionmedia.org/net-neutrality/

Net neutrality really means that the FCC has proposed that the internet service provider Verizon and Comcast that had access of tiers service. If net neutrality left women and teens mind teens will go so crazy because the internet is where is erased from our screens and and speakers. Having the proposal of the FCC would have the internet to tell our stories and people own words. Justice in the many form of the companies of tools to use. Lets keep the FCC proposed begin

Teens and Net Neutrality. Should YOU care?

NEt Neutrailt
Well, you have somehow stumbled upon my blog post. And as you can tell from the title, I am going to talk about Net Neutrality. But first, a little background. Net Neutrality is what is cheapening to your internet data right now! As of the day I am writing this, (12/23/2014) Internet Service Providers are not allowed to treat your data differently than they way they treat mines or anyone else. However, this might change.

Recently there has been a huge debate over this lately. ISP's aren't exactly happy about some of the views in our government. Take president Obama as an example. Many republicans are angry over his view on the matter. Sure, this happens all the time in Washington. You many be interested in this one though, and it does in fact relate to you.

If Net Neutrality is gone, the internet as it is now will be gone. You'll probably run into websites that your ISP ha blocked, because they can. You may also have slower internet, and you will need to pay more if you want faster internet. Which is just what you had before Net neutrally was gone. So chose what you want, a blocked, slowed down internet, or a normal fair one we have now. Because one day, this is going to be in our hands.

Net Neutrality Tamir Harper

Why is net neutrality important for teens to know about?

How much do you know about net neutrality? If not much come sit in Mrs.Hull tech class to find out more! The information below is facts and opinions. Everyone may have a different views. The information below touch base on two things; one being that net neutrality is important for the safety of teens and adults and finally that it is important so everyone can have equal internet connection.

Net neutrality is very important for the safety of teens and adults. It allows us freedom of speech over the web. There are over 2 billion people that uses the web daily and should be able to type and say whatever they please. This is so important to the citizens of the internet because it allows you to express yourself through words/ comments over the web. Also, if you are not able to do so it can cause extreme anger and would be against the Declaration Of Independance.

Net neutrality is important also because it suppose to allows all teens to have equal internet connections. Without this I.S.P.S can allow someone to receive slower internet or close to no internet at all. The more you pay the faster your internet. Personally that would not be far to low income families because if they can not afford as much internet as a millionare they internet service will pretty much be off. Finally, it is important for everyone to have equal internet connection so that no one will have a fast lane or anything else. Everyone will be equal.

The information above is facts and it is also my opinion. People may disagree but this is right for everyone that uses internet. If the President Of The United States think this is important and he think we should keep it. The internet should be equal for everyone no matter what. Also, I.S.P.S should not attempt to take advantage of people.

Why is it important for teens to know net neutrality? Well I do! By: Gil Rosen

Why is net neutrality important for teens to know about?

It is important for teens to know about net neutrality because they should be able to know what is happening to their internet use. Net neutrality should be spoken out to everyone especially teens. Teens probably complain about their internet being slow the most. Teens need the internet speed more than adults for casual use. More adults are patient than teens are.

Teens need to speak up and be the future guidance in the future for equal rights. The teens today are the future adults that need to take charge about their internet. Teens love WiFi and the internet more than anything they own. Speed is key to the teens so they should know that their ISP's are taking charge about their internet that the families are paying for.

As an ISP you can't just block certain websites and slow others down. It is just not right for ISPs to slow down the websites teens love. This is why teens need to know about net neutrality. They can't take the slowness that the ISPs are giving them, it is just not right. So I hope teens now know why it is important to know about neutrality and they take action on the things they love, internet speed.

The term Net Neutrality means that all data we use on the internet is treated equally. Right now, everyone on the internet has access to anything they want and any amount of it they want; all for one flat fee a month. ISPs (internet service providers) give everyone the same quality of internet, and the data that goes through the ISP is strictly the user’s choice- besides ISPs only being able to slow down illegal content . Net Neutrality gives everyone a right to equal data, and it ensures an Open Internet. Currently, this means that the people own the internet and no one else.

The issue being debated right now is whether the people still get their Net Neutrality or not. Big ISPs have started to make a stink over the last year, saying that Net Neutrality wasn’t thought up by a legal standpoint; so they turned the case over to the FCC (Federal Communications Committee). What has gone on from there is this: big companies want to make the internet censored and controlled by making everyone pay for ‘special’ services and charging for data use instead of flat fees. The proposal that was come up with is basically that, and is very dangerous because it would let the ISPs take control of the peoples’ internet so that there can be lots and lots of money sucked out of it. If this happened, the internet would be slow for all who didn’t pay ridiculous prices, and many people wouldn’t even be able to access or say what they want online- it would all be up to the big companies.

The current issue with Net Neutrality is important for teens to know about because we are growing up in a generation where internet is essential. If we do not have proper access to it, then information and our rights is being taken away. The internet has to be a place for expression, learning, and communication so that We the People can take charge and not money-guzzling companies looking to censor and add expense to our lives. The internet was created to be run as an open place, and it was a safe-haven for all who needed their voices to be heard or access to information. Net Neutrality is important for us teens because without it, we will only be looking into a world of big companies manipulating what we see.

It is important for teens to understand net neutrality. Before I took this tech class, I didn't know what ISPs or how we received our internet, took it for granted. If we get to know the system a little better this doesn't have to be a big of a problem as it is now. I didn't understand its value, the youth, I think, can change this whole thing. They need to understand what they are encountering everyday, the internet.
Teenagers are one of the most people who use internet and get online. They are probably in some perspectives affected by the most. They can make the change and the need to understand this whole mess before encountering it as they get older. It has become such a big deal that I think everyone should get involved and voice their opinion. Even if their with or against net neutrality.
People wouldn't be human if they didn't disagree with each other. Net neutrality is just one of the many issues in the world that people have certain views. It's important for teens to be aware of one of the major issues. To understand the outcomes and how this all works so they can make a change. So net neutrality will either be common or banned.

Net Neutrality Blog

Net neutrality is treating all data and devices equally, whichever race, devices, sites, or ISPs you tune into. Net neutrality is important for teens to know about. A lot of things happen on the internet that all teens need to be aware about like cyber bullying and digital discrimination. That is one of the reasons why we have firewalls at school and sometimes at home too. Companies such as Verizon and Comcast are ISPs or internet service providers violate these barriers and stream these websites legally without filtering all of it for users. This corrupts the rule of net neutrality and if that happens ISPs can pay extra to block themselves from using the internet.

This is where the FCC/federal communications commissions and President Obama comes in. The FCC’s job is the government overseeing what people do on the internet. President Obama thinks that shouldn't be any barriers between you and your favorite websites so he formed a plan. He ensures that there will be an open internet that can connect us to the world, but protects net neutrality for everyone. The internet has become everyone’s communication and everyday life, so consumers get to decide what they can do.

Now that you are aware about what Net Neutrality is and how it is being impacted. We want teenagers to know that everybody is going online and that they are going to grow up having problems online. They need to be prepared and if not they will won't be able to fix the problems ahead of them. We should be able to influence others by our opinions on what may be going on as well.

Slide 2 (Emma Schwingel-Sauer)

Me Slide (1)
The first thing I did to revise my slide was change the words. The feedback I got was to make the words bigger and have a more obvious gradation. I made the words spread from top to bottom so it would fill up the entire length of the page yet still leave some empty space, so the slide wasn't too overcrowded. I changed the color of the words as well, making the ¨eat¨ lighter and gradually changing to darker. I also made the most important words the biggest. It flowed from top to bottom, leading up to the most important which showed dominance. This also helped create balance. The big soccer ball in the top right corner balanced out the big words in the bottom left corner. The next step I made was to get rid of the periods. A got a bit of mixed feedback on this specific one. Some said they liked it while others not as much, so I did some further research and found that on a slide, periods can often disrupt a flow of reading, so I decided to cut them out. The last decision I made was to make the bleeding picture bigger. The soccer ball, just like the words is now bigger to take up space but still not too much.

Net Neurality isnt fair. They control our network by easily restricting us on what we can see and charging us. Its not fair for them to take control of something that can be equally divided. Slowing and blocking us users from iternet connection is not acceptable.

Have you been affected by it? Have you ever been watching a movie on netflix and it starts to buffer or it just takes a huge amount of time to load? Then yes, you have been affected by net neutrality. They want you to pay extra in order for you to be put in the ¨fast lane¨.

What can we do? Theirs different things you can do. You can sign pettions and also indepently write to the FCC. The FCC are already taking action. Although these actions wont be effective and will only change a bit.

Net Neutrality and Teens

The internet was made to open new pathways. These new pathways led us to faster and more communication between us, engulfing the society we now live in. Technology is everywhere, and it is hard for many teenagers to find a way to turn it off. It is built into who we are and we should use this as a tool meant for everyone to use, with no hierarchy on the internet. Without net neutrality, it would slow down the world we are accustomed to and keep us from expressing what we want to which should be a right never taken away or made slower for the better of internet service providers.

By not upgrading to the “fastest” and most expensive version of your internet made available by internet service providers like Comcast and Verizon, the regular internet will become slower with new speed bumps. If one were to buy into the more expensive option, it would basically be the exact same internet you started with, just more expensive. This does not benefit anyone other than the service providers. Is this a world that we will know, one where people act only for their own benefit, ignoring what is best for the whole of America?

Service providers would like to filter what you do on the internet. They want to charge you based on what sites you visit and what applications you use and charge you from there. This is simply money against the happiness of the people. Society has become numb to life and has taken away many purposes of living and tries to focus just on advertising and self benefit. That is not what life is about. Life is about doing what makes you happy, and by doing whatever you want. The internet is one place that is supposed to be free for everyone, a place where teenagers can go for entertainment, inspiration, communication, anything. The internet is supposed to be limitless. Don’t let internet service providers take this away from us. If they take away what we do, they take away what we are. I want to live as who I am, and I’m sure many teens are with me.

Net Neutrality

Net Neutrality
Net Neutrality is a barrier that regulates the flow of internet. However, Internet Service Providers, or ISP's, try to bend or knock down the barrier. People around the country write articles explaining the reasosn to uphold the rules of net neutrality. If net neutrality rules are corrupted and broken, ISP's can pay extra money to block their competition from using the internet. An online clash betwee ISP's can oush every other user into the slow lane. It's important to have these rules or else the internet would just be one big competition for speed.
My slide shows the areas and phases of how internet usage will change if net neutrality laws are broken down. The green area shows the status of the internet if the net neutrality laws were enforced and unchanged. The yellow area shows ISP's bending the rules and paying money for faster internet. The red zone shows the net neutrality barrier being broken down and ISP's dominating the internet world. Right now, America is in the yellow and if net neutrality doesn't hold up, America will go from yellow to red real quick.
This poster will teach teenagers about net neutrality without having to go through a boring twenty minute video. The poster represents a stop light and how the zones switch from time to time. However, if the stop light stays at green, the net neutrality problems shoudl go away. Teenagers have a voice too, and if we teach them about internet laws, the FCC just might listen to what we have to say.

Net Neutrality and Teens - Kopf

Net neutrality is a very important set of rules that many people believe should be put in the ¨book of internet rules¨. Basically net neutrality is the rules that would govern the fairness of the internet. Internet Service Providers or ISPs sort of rule the internet right now and net neutrality would govern what they can and couldn’t do. Essentially net neutrality would make sure everything was fair with the internet, no fast lane or slow lanes and no slowing down content if it’s legal. Net neutrality is liked and wanted by numerous people, including our President Barack Obama.

Right now there are a couple problems with the internet, a lot of that having to do with net neutrality not being enforced. Currently the ISPs have been slowing down certain sites and then asking if they want to pay extra for a fast lane. This type of thing happened with Netflix and it got them pretty angry. The ISPs have a serious power over the internet and without these rules they could speed up, slow down, or block content as they wanted.

Now that you know what Net Neutrality is and what’s wrong, I’ll explain why its important for this upcoming generation and the generations after them to know more about net neutrality. Teens these days and even young children go on the internet constantly and it really affects their daily life. Also they are going to grow up and have to deal with these problems. It’s really important that teens are prepared and knowledgeable about the internet and what’s going on with it. If they aren’t and the internet is still part of their daily lives they will just be affected by the decisions made and not be able to participate in fixing it or preventing bad usage. In general as long as they know what’s going on they have the ability and chance to take a stand for what will affect them in the future and now.

Kate Kopf Slide 2

Tech Presentation
My new slide, as you can see is very similar to my old slide. This is for a couple of reasons. When I presented my slide to the class and had it graded, I didn't get that much feedback. However I did fix what they suggested which was to make the image of the cube a little bit bigger. Later at the next class I tried to seek out some suggestions and one person suggested I add more words, so I did just that. If you look closely you can see that I added a couple new words such as: Philadelphia, Energetic, and Leader. I tried to think of some words that might help you understand me and my personality a bit better. The reason I didn't change my slide to much is because I got a lot of compliments on how it was already, from fellow classmates and Ms. Hull. I really think that this slide is designed well and shows my personality well, I hope you feel the same way and enjoy looking at it and reading it.

Net Neutrality (Emma Schwingel-Sauer)

Net Neutrality allows everyone to see everything equally. Without it, ISPs (such as Comast and Verizon) will choose what pops up when you search for a specific topic. If we have net neutrality it allows anyone's idea to be spread the same as any other. It does not matter whether someone has more money than someone else. Net neautrality allows more thorough research. This is because if someone shops a lot on their computer while someone else only researches about science on a different computer and they search the same topic, they will end up getting different websites because of their previous history.
If we get rid of net neutrality it will allow big companies, ISPs, to be able to block certain sites that compete with their organizations. By doing this we will be minimizing our options and sites to explore and research. The reason ISPs are controlling and CAN control is because of money. The reason there are a limited amount of ISPs is because they cost a lot of money to build up. ISPs have lots of money, but don't let them control your internet with it. You may not like what information they provide you with and it may close you out on information you could otherwise have.
It's not just about the ISPs money controlling what you look at, but other companies that pay them even more money to ¨guide¨ you in a different direction--their direction. These corporate companies that already make tons of money are going to be making more money, yet this affects us negatively by condemning the information provided to us and rerouting us. President Obama is fighting for net neutrality and his main point is that the free, open internet has given us so much already by being able to share new ideas and political movements. He believes that there should be ¨no blocking, no throttling, increased transparency, and no paid prioritization¨ which will keep the internet free. Net neutrality is a big part of society currently as the internet is used now more than ever and we need to keep it free.

The website he was trying to visit wasn't on the fast lane, meaning that it was on the slow lane. Because the website was slowed, he didn't deem it worth his time. The website was actually just as awesome as Tumblr, but the sluggish speed of it made it less appealing. The simple reason for the website being slow: it didn't have enough money to pay for a place on the fast lane. It could make it big, but it didn't have the opportunity.
Liberty (who finds her name a bit strange) wanted to watch Netflix one day. She had Comcast as her Internet Service Provider. She hit enter, and waited for Netflix to load. It didn't. She waited a bit longer. It still didn't. Suspicious, she tried Comcast on Demand. It took half a second to load.
These are the stories of two fictional teenagers who didn't have net neutrality. While it may not feel like it matters when explained to a teenager, it really does. Without it, these things will happen. However, the two scenarios above won't be the only ones. There will be so many more, because corporations have a goal of making as much money as possible. Net Neutrality is the reason this doesn't happen right now.
