Sculpture:

For the sculpture portion of the assignments this quarter I chose to do origami. I have always thought that origami was interesting. I also saw it as an extreme challenge. In the end I only made three sculptures, but individually they took about 3 hours each to be made the correct way. The finished product is one crane and lotus.

Crane:

Lotus:

200 Pictures:

I found this assignment to be the most fun and interesting of all of our assignments. The project allowed a lot of freedom and creativity among the different pictures. The majority of my pictures were of either something inside the school or the out doors or just something I thought was interesting.

Photo Editing:

I found to be the most difficult because I was not as well versed on photoshop or any of the photo editing options online. I spent hours trying to edit the three picture that I did get a chance to finish and I am not very satisfied with them. The three edited pictures are my best attempt thus far in my photo editing.

Copy a Work by A Famous Artist:

I choose to copy the painting "My Cup Runneth Over a Hanging Wall" by Annie Lee because I saw this painting in an online photo gallery that I was scanning through one day. Something about this image seemed so calm and peaceful. I first tried to copy it in paint, but that did not work out so well. I then sketched the piece in pencil and traced over the drawing in black marker.

Bike Drawings:

I found the bike drawings to be quite interesting. I also found them to be difficult. my biggest difficulty was distinguishing between  negative and positive space. In the end I put a lot of time and effort into these drawings. In some of them my confusion is clear.

Outside Observation:

My drawing of an outside observation is one of a set of tree leaves. I love the outdoors and this assignment was one of my favorites of this year. I feel like it was the one I demonstrates my art ability. This piece is probably one of my best.

Q4-Espanol Proyecto - Allen Yang

Reflection:

My project is a Comic life movie on how I was when I was born, to age 7 through 10, present day and also to the future.

I like that it reflects on my life using spanish. A language that is foreign to me and some of the things we've learned over the course of year rushed back to my mind.

Perhaps next time I might use something different besides Comic Life and iMovie.

Sierra Quarter 4 Benchmark

My project is an online book that I designed containing my life story. The thing I like most is the pages and the pictures that they have on them. Overall the book is really nice. If I would have done thins project differently, I would have used more pictures.

Here's the link to my online story book, enjoy :)
Enjoy :))))

Society has a huge influence on our identity. Throughout the course of the year, I've learned that our environment is one of the main things that mold us into who we are today. Culture, religion, and society are part of these environmental surroundings that creates us. So let's start with culture. Everyone has their own little culture that they grew up with and sometimes, it sticks with them until they die. And sometimes, people tend to let go of their culture because they're either embarrassed by it or they just don't want to hold on to their culture.

But, all in all, culture is something that represents who you are. Without our culture, we wouldn't be able to learn about our ancestors and what they did. They created movements that us young adults can be a part of and create a better generation. Religion plays a huge role in our lives. Everyone has their own beliefs and their own God. People judge you based on your religion and sometimes, they misjudge you. For an example, if you're a Christian, people think that all you do is talk about God and you're pure, but in all honesty we're just as normal as everyone else. We don't always talk about God, but if it comes down to it, we will. Well, I can't say everyone, but I don't always talk about God. I'm just like everyone else. I make bad decisions at times, but that's just the human brain and how we are.

Nowadays, our society is getting tougher and tougher. They judge based on how you look and tell you how you should be. For an example, a lot of young ladies and gentlemen are insecure nowadays because our society thinks that showing off your body is considered beautiful. Everyone is beautiful in his or her own way. I honestly don't agree with society all the time because what they think is right is wrong to me. As I mention above, girls show off their body because they feel as though that that's the only way they can find the "right" one. In all honesty, you can't find the "right" one by showing off your body. I, as a Christian believer, I think that you shouldn't have to show your skin for attention. People should love you for you and not for your body. I love having group conversations in class about society because I can relate to it and it's something I can talk with passion and care. Every time we talk about these situations, I’m able to express my feelings and have a voice in these conversations.

All in all, this year was tough but I made through it. I learned a lot about my culture, society, and religion. Society shouldn't determine who you are as a person because who are they to judge us? We, as individuals can only judge ourselves.

One of my favorite journal entry I wrote was journal entry 10/12/10. During this time, we were reading the book Lord of The Flies. This book is all about surviving and depending on one another in order for them to make it through another day. Not only did this book deal with surviving but it dealt with society. In the book, Piggy was a chubby kid who had no voice and the boys were teasing him.

During quarter 2, we were assigned to do a project that deals with the world. Many students chose economy, educations, war, etc. But I chose society and religion. The reason why I chose these two topics is because I'm interested on how people feel about religion and how the society runs. I felt strongly about religion and how it affects our society. During my Podcast, my pastor took it to a different level and she combined those two topics together.

Oh goodness, the year is almost over. This third quarter was one of the hardest quarter I've ever experienced. It was all about the world's problems and a situation that people deal with it nowadays. We had to choose a country and a problem that the country deals with. For this project, I chose to work with the country Congo and rape. I chose rape because it's something that I experienced and it'll be interesting to write down my point of view. Not only that, but it actually helps me see my situation in a different point of view. So here's a look at my Monologues. I hope you enjoy.

During the third quarter, we also did a portfolio of poetries. I wasn't sure of this project because I'm not poetic and I just didn't feel confident in it at all. But as time goes by, I've began to get the hang of it and I began to get more and more inspiration. Society is one of the things that inspire me to write most of my poems because I just feel strongly about it.

Benchmark Reflection

1. What is your project?

My project is an attempt to create a small children's book/scrapbook. I really wanted it to represent who I used to be; small, very small. It may sound strange, but I've always loved small things, and I thought my little book was just perfect. I included quite a few small facts about me and who I am.

2. What do you like about it?

I really like that it sort of represents me, simple with a twist. I'm pretty much always a happy person and I think this little book is very happy! Also, it's just adorable.

3. What would you do differently?

It's not really what I would do differently, but what I would add something. I was thinking about making a video to go along with the book, it would have been me reading the book and turning the pages.

Quarter 4 - Benchmark

Week 1 - Sculptures

 sculpture

I looked up how to make a marine biome. In order to do this I just had to look up different animals and other objects that were found in the biome. Although you can't see it very well, the hardest part was gluing the sand to the shoebox and making it appear rippled like waves.

Week 2 - Photoshopped Pictures

photoshop_1l

The first picture was a picture that I tried to photoshop. It didn't come out very well and I spent too much time just trying to perfectly cut myself out. The second photo I used flickr instead of photoshop. I find flickr easier to use, and easier for me to color contrast.

Week 3 - Copy a famous Artist

original  remake

This was a picture that I found online. The different textures of the picture is was really intrigued me into trying to remake it. However one problem i had was trying to find the correct materials to try and remake the photo. In the end I couldn't find what to use, so I just used chalk pastels, but It didn't come out correctly.

Week 4 - Bike Drawing

Line Drawing

Negative Space

IMG_0739
Shading

My bike drawings was the hardest part. I had a hard time trying to draw the bike and an even harder time drying to make them fit the requirements. I think my best bike drawing was the one where I used shading. This is mostly because that is one of my strongest skills, so that is the one I'm best at.

Week 5 - Outside Drawing

IMG_0733

This is the picture that I am most proud of this quarter. We had to draw a scene from outside and on that week I was sick, so I just googled a picture. It was a picture of a tree in the sunset. I used oil pastels and created a really nice blend of several different colors. This is my favorite piece of the year. :)

THenry

My project was a short booklet about me.   I like the fact that I was allowed to draw for this project.  I might have colored it like I originally planned, if I did the project over.  The booklet is three pages showing me growing from a kid to the present, and then what I may look like 10 years from now.  I drew several examples of the things I wrote about.

This school year has been a wonderful experience for me I have learned a lot of things. I've also begun to better understand different morals or saying people live by. One thing I started to understand is even though we have our freedom to do as we please. If people tried to do what they are suppose to do, when others aren't watching then it would help make their lives easier. I came to that realization during an interview with my father.

Although sometimes society gives people so much leeway to do as they please. Re-guarding what is right. They began to over use the right of freedom. Which causes the higher power to step into doing as they please no matter what the affect is on those around. Just like in the book Night we read in class the young boy Eliezer Wiesel who was deeply affect by the Holocaust due to the recognized higher authority of Hitler an his men. I wrote an academic paper demonstrating how is has affected him and the way he became.

That also reminds me about the monologue assignment we had. Taken history and bringing it back to life. Trying to show that even thought history tends to heavily repeat its self that are some aspects of it that people just might not know or fully understand. In my story I was telling how the higher authority has affect a community.

My favorite unit was the poetry. Just like any other form of writing it is a way to express the mind. I made a poem portfolio an in it I have five poems. I started to understand that you do not have to be an expert in a certain field to be able to accomplish the work. I love poetry and I like to write it, but when some people who feel the same way encounter another who might have a stronger way of expressing than they do. The thought of not being an expert really became a heavy thought.

Besides my liking of the poetry unit I was also fond of was the Op-Ed on child abuse. What was so interesting about this assignment was what ever we chose to write about, we had to have a strong point and sort of give the story. The topic of child abuse crossed my mind because it is something that is often no touched. While I wrote it I felt like I was giving an article a voice and a purpose. In my mind it was not only a piece a writing that was needed for class it became a possible end to the problem for the younger generation.

When I started this year it seemed as if it would be hard and the things the class were going to learned would be overwhelming.

Some of the assignments and assignment reading over this year had make me have the general understand that every piece of writing made will not always make sense or come together.  But it will always have a meaning and purpose.

Proyecto Q4BM

My project is a video storybook of me being a child till present day, then to the future. It has photos of me from when I was growing up, featuring activities, people, and various other things that I enjoyed and some things I didn't enjoy. It shows photos of myself in current day, during the present day section. Unfortunately, I don't have photos of me from the future, so those I had to find, which are a compilation of various photos that go with how I will be in 5 and 10 years.
This project was by far more most favorite benchmark. It was all about myself. Hah. It involved me when I was a little one, me now, and me in the future. The best part to me was taking the photos from me when I was younger. Finding them, and scanning them was such a joy for me.
If I were to do this project again, i'd most likely make it into a physical book, and try to stay away from digital a bit.

Children's book

My project is like a little kids biography of my life. There are no real pictures of me in the book it is all doodles. The one of me younger are little anime me and when I get older the cartoon becomes a bit more realistic. In the future my face is covered by a question mark.
I like that the pictures are all different it looks like I am changing over time the art is changing.
I wish I had made an amazing story instead of just simple stuff but I like it for the most part.

4th Quarter Art WOrk

For the 4th quarter we were asked to complete multiple piecies of art work. Some include a bicycle upside down drawling, area shading of a bicycle, and creating a sculpture for the sculpture I decided to create an xylophone. Below are picture of my pieces of art

Kimberly Parker's Reflection

1. What is your project?
My project is a six page scrapbook describing myself from the past, present and the future. I used pictures of myself and people who I care a lot about. I described my likes, dislikes, routine, personality, and traits all in the Spanish language.
2. What do you like about it?
I really like how creative and colorful my project is. I also liked the outcome of it because the grammar is all correct and makes sense.
3. What would you do differently?
If I could redo this project, I would take the time to include and congregate more verbs and use more description.

West Virginia & Kentucky Coal Sludge Spill reflection

What went well was the final product that was put out and the actual amount of information it displayed and how nice the pictures looks and the organization of it all. What did not work was the process we spent a bunch of time trying too get the information our group assembled together. Miscommunications between group members was a bit of a problem but in the end we game through.  Next time i would have better group communication.

My project is a quiz based on three stories that you will read based on my childhood, the present and my future. Each question you get correct will advance you to the next question, and each incorrect answer will give a pretty little surprise. I like that my project is fun and amusing for the audience, but it is also informative. If I redid this project, I would add maybe a voiceover of me reading it and record the incorrect slide.

Element Print Project 2011

My element was on Calcium

Calcium is located in your bones, but is mostly used in milk, and medicine.

I came up with the idea by first thinking about bones since calcium is well known to everyone,
I first thought of doing a skull, but at the time I was in my Nightmare before Christmas phase. That's when I thought of doing Jack Skellington.
He was made of bones, so I used him to represent my element.

I first had to make three choices of symbols I wanted to use to describe my element. Then I had to choose a one
out of my three choices to make on a 6 by 6 piece of paper.
Than I had to draw my final choice down on that 6 by 6, when I got that done,
I then had to trace what I drew on the paper onto my trace paper backwards so when I printed it, it'd come out forward.
After I did that, I had to press my traced paper over the linoleum block to get the image backwards. I then used a
handle to scrape out my negative so that my positive would be in color. After that, I used print ink and
a roller. I poured some ink on a table, and used the roller to smooth it out so it wouldn't be sticky, or
have a sticky sound. I then rolled the ink onto my linoleum block and used a tan piece of construction paper
and placed it on the ink painted linoleum block. I used a wooden spoon and rubbed to back of the paper
to make sure all the ink was printed onto the paper so it would come up clearly. Than I slowly pilled it off,
and set it out to dry. Then I just washed off the ink, and used a different color to create a new one
with a different color.

I thought that the project was pretty fun and productive. I would like to do it again if I had a chance.

I would chose a different subject to use as a example if I could do it over again.

Element Print Project 2011

My element is palladium.  My element is used for jewelry but mostly rings.  It is also used for surgical tools.  For the print I used Athena's shield, helmet, and spear.  I used this because the element is named after Pallas(Athena).  I thought it would be cool to have it showing the armor instead of trying to have a person.  First thing I did was to sketch out different ideas.  I had an asteroid and a ring for the other two suggestions.  Then we traced the drawing backwards on the linoleum plate.  With a cutter we cut out all of the negative space.  For to print it we took a roller and rolled different color inks on the block.  After that we took paper and rubbed it over the block and took it off.  I really liked this project.  It was interesting.  I think that my final product came out pretty good.  I like how the shield and spear turned out.  I would do a better job cutting it out if I would do it again.

Element Print project 2011

My element is Bromine. My element is mainly used for lightweight bodies of missiles and aircraft, basically tools of war. Since my element is used for missiles, i decided to use that. It was easy to do and it was the first thing that came to me. My initial idea was much too detailed to cut from the  linoleum tile. I had to make it simpler and more bold, in that there couldn't be many thin lines. It was definitely an interesting project that i have never done before. I would like to do it again. If i did it again, I would choose a picture that better reflects my project.

Element Print Project 2011 by SMcAninch

My element was krypton.
It is highly conductive and it glows bright weight so its used in lights.
I saw on a Wikipedia page that it was named krypton because of the Greek word for the hiding one.
I made it on paper traced it on to tracing paper then onto the linoleum blocks then cut it and paint on to the paper.
I think i did good on it could have been better but I'm happy with it.
I would use different collars and make a different picture.

Spanish 4th Quarter Benchmark Amillatt

My project was an imovie. I like making the imovie because i had complete control .I was about to do a children's book , but my mother said i couldn't cut up my photos or glue it to paper. I would want to do a children's book in the future. Next time I would do a voice over instead of just putting music. I would also maybe add a video of me and described myself in more words.
