After reading To Kill A Mockingbird, and discussing how small towns neglects changes, we were asked to write a speech on a change/new idea, that was being neglected. Using persuastion skills, by appealing to the mind, and heart of our listeners, we presented a new idea. Telling the town, what they were doing wrong, and why they shouldn't do it. We also had to console them, by saying that we understood why they neglected the new idea.

For our fourth quarter benchmark we had to make a speech that would or could persuade the people in our made up towns to change. Also in the speech we had to tell them what they were doing wrong, and we had to how they could fix it, just like the book "To Kill A Mockingbird" might have did for the people of that time.

This benchmark was to write a speech to a small town.  We had to talk to tell them what they were doing wrong and what they should do to change it.

we had to write a speech as if we were a famous person returning to our childhood home town. We had to make a problem that the town had and a new idea for the town to change it.

We had to act as if we were someone important for doing something and we were comming back to our small hometown and then we had to give this big speech about something that our twosn was doing wrong and we had to link it to , to kill a mocking bird.

We had to compare a time in history to a peom. We had a make a connection about it. It hade to be up to five pages and we had to use outside sources.

We had to create a speech to a town that we (supposedly) came home from, the speech had to present a new idea as well as get the town to stop doing the idea they do. The speech had to relate to TKAM in some way as well as look like a good 5 paragraph (or more) essay.

We had to create thesis or use a thesis Mr.Kay gave us for a 5-paragraph essay, using quotes from the story Kindred.

In this benchmark we had to write a speech as if we were a famous person coming back to out home town and we have to tell a speech on what our beliefs is. We did this after reading to kill a mockingbird.

for the 4th benchmark we had to write as if we were a famous person coming back to our home town and we had to try to get the town to change there ways with the speech we had to write.

This is my last benchmark project for freshman year...we read a book called TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, and we reflect on it by writing a speech and connecting the speech to the book..

For this benchmarkk assignment we had to write a speech that we would give in the future once we had become supposedly famous about a problem in our town.

For this Marking period the assignment was to pick a time period and wirte a five page paper on it. The paper had to include to poems that had to do with the information you had.

For this benchmark we had to write a kelos or a nostros that was 3 pages long.

for this peoject we had to write a 5 paragraph essay on the book kindred. We had our thesis given to us.

In this class, we picked any time period before the 1980's that interested us, and we found poetry and song lyrics from that time, and we created a thesis and analyzed it using our poetry findings.  Then we wrote a five page paper on our analysis.

In this benchamrk we were given five pages to write an essay about the time period or event of our choice, connecting the history from that event and the poetry of that time. for my subject i chose to write about the making of the state of Israel  and the poetry/songs of the time.

The third period benchmark was to get poetry from a project and show how the poetry as connected to the history in that time. I finished this project by finding the poetry and finding out what happened in the time to make to poetry was like that.

This benchmark was situated around the story of the Odyssey. In this benchmark we were given the assignment to write a Kleos or a Nostos (a story of glory, or a story about hoemcoming).

For the third period benchmark we had to write a five page essay on the peotry of a time period and how it connects to the history. We would choose a time period and then look at the poetry. We would make thesis statements and then use the five pages to prove it. The time period I choose was around the nineteen fifties and sixties. I researched the Palistinian and Israeli conflict.

our seccond period benchmark was to write a ficcional or real story about nostos or cleos showing on an experience that we had or made where we wrote about how we got either nostos or cleos and what we went torough to get it. I finished this project by creating a type of story and how me the main character went about getting home from war.

in this assignment we were given pre-made thesis' of which to compose our whole five paragraph essay about. The topic of the thesis' was the book we had just finished reading, the book Kindred.

For the second marking period we had to write another five paragraph essay for the Odyssey. (For an explination of a five paragraph essay click here) I did this assignment by creating a thesis statement and then finding three points in the book that support the thesis statement.

The assignment was to write a five paragraph essay about weather Dana was prepaired to go back in time or not. I compleeted the project by finding quotes in the book. Then I used them to determin weather she was ready or not to go back in time. Then I made that information in to the five paragraph essay and handed it in.

For the third marking period, we had to write a 5 page essay on  history and poetry. I went to find poems that matched the time period i chose. When I got all the information i needed, I wrote my essay about the relationship between the history and the poetry.

In the 3rdquarter benchmark we had to write a 5page paper. Within the paper we had to make a point and try to prove it using outside resources and not the ones the teacher would usually give us. The paper would still have the basic outline except the body paragraph would be a little longer. The point that I made was that our art is a reflection of our history. LINK

In this benchmark when had a choose what point we wanted to prove once we had an idea and the teacher gave it an okay we had to write a 5 paragraph paper on how something in real life is just like something in the book. My point was about double standards. I did the regular process gather my information present it to the my peer and then give it to my teacher to make sure everything was good so I can turn in my final copy. Link

My class had to write a 5 paragraph for this benchmark. What we had to do was choose a topic and elaborate on it more using kindred as a source. We had to add in quotes from kindred and examples of how our topic can relate to kindred. The way I went about completing this I had take notes on the things in kindred that proves my point. After I gathered all my information I put it all in order, typed it up had a peers look over it, fixed the corrections and handed it to the teacher for it to be cheeked fix what needed to be fixed, then turned it in for a final grade.

Our third Benchmark for English was a 5 page essay.  We were given a choice to choose any time period from before 1980.  I chose to do a time period that many don't know about, the terra cotta soldiers.  I picked this time period because there were some things that I wanted to know and I knew a little something from going to China to learn.  We had to use 2 poems and 1 book resource.

For the 2nd marking period we had to pick i think one of five subjects for our thesis statements that had to do with the Odyssey and write a five paragraph essay.

We also did a outline to help manage our thoughts. 

Our second benchmark for english was to write another 5 paragraph essay, but this one was about our next book the Odyssey. This one is another type of persuasive essay. The essay had almost the same rules and instructions as the first essay. To complete this assignment, I chose a thesis like every other person and wrote five paragraphs with qoutes to back up my points.

For the first benchmark we had to write five paragraphs about the book we read, Kindred. We had to come up with thesises, and prove them in the paper. We also had to add quotes to support our thesis.

for the 3rd quarter we had to write a 5 page essay on a certain time piriod and how poetry from that time connects with the history. The time i chose was the Roaring 20's. The songs that i used for my poems was a song by Luise armstrong called "on the sunny side of the street and a song by Miltonager and Jack Yellen called "happy days are here again". To do this project i had to do alot of research to find out about the time and how these two songs related to it. 

The assinment was to write a five paragraph essay about the type of way dana was prepared to go to the past.I compleeted it by getting quotes from the book and then useing the quotes we had to show weather she was ready or not to go in to the past. I used the book's quotes to show that she was not prepared to go in to the past and that buy growing up in the future she had been less ready to get the type of things that slaves got.

Our third marking was a mixture between history and english. We had to pick a any time period that came before the 90's and 00's and then we had to find poetry from that time. We had to write five pages about the poetry that was connected to the history.

The second benchmark for english was to prove a thesis that Mr. Kay gave to us.  The thesises he gave us were about the Odyssey.  We had to prove one of the five thesises he gave us, or we could make our own.

nostos/kleos project, make somthing like odysseus' fight for troy or make somthing like his trails on trying to get home, 4 pages long, no longer no shorter,and make the scenes.... irresistable to read more.

For the first quarter benchmark I had to write a five-paragraph essay proving something about kindred. A five-paragraph essay is a kind of persuasive essay that is constrained to five paragraphs. Each paragraph has a special purpose. The first paragraph is the introduction where you introduce your thesis statement. The second, third, and forth each have a supporting point that proves the thesis statement. Then the last paragraph concludes the essay. The way I did this was think of a thesis statement and write 3 points to support it.

The first essay that we had was the Kindred essay. For this, we had to write a persuasive type essay on the book Kindred. We came up with a thesis statement and began our work from there.

For the second marking piriod benchmark I had to write a 5 paragraph essay on a topic i found in the book The Odyssey. the book is about a man called Odysseus who went into the trojan war and didnt come back. Not to say that hes dead, he just didnt come back yet. His wife,penelope, has 40 suitors who want to mary her because they think odysseus is dead. The suitors are plotting to kill Her 17 year old son who goes off to find his father while Odysseus is acually trying to get home but the Gods are against him.

This benchmark was by far on of the most interesting thing that we did in english. We foccussed on a poetry unit where we compared history and poetry in our paper. We wrote a pages paper on a time period of our choice. We were allowed to use any time period that was beyond the 80's. This project was interesting, but the research was frutrating. It was by far the most stressful thing that i did in the school, because researching for it and making a connection between poetry and history was  complicated, but in the end, it became easy and i did it well.

The second marking period was another five parapgraph essay. This time it was for a different book. The book that we are currently reading is called The Odyssey and that is what we had to base our five paragraph essay on.

For our first benchmark in english was a 5 paragraph essay on a book called Kindred.We had to think of a thesis and prove it in 5 paragraph form. Mine was that Rufus who is one of the main characters does not deserve sympathy because he expects it instead of giving it.

It complete this project I made a outline to help organize what i was going to say. 

This is my story about wanting to get home for my english second quarter benchmark

In this unit, I learned things related to poetry, arts, and its history. We connect them all to history. I choose a time period and write about its history, arts, and poetry. This is just like the five paragraph essay, but instead it's five pages long.

In the 1st marking period our benchmark was to do a five paragraph essay. It was based on the book we were reading called Kindred.

The benchmark for the 3rd quarter benchmark we had to write a 5 page essay on a certian time period. I wrote mine on the 1960's on the drugs of that time and the the way that the drugs influenced the music. I wrote about the major things with drugs and music that happened int he 1960's and the way that people thought it was "COOL" to do drugs.

The kindred 5 paragraph essay, thesis had to be either a good made up one, or chosen off the outline, 3 body paragraphs had to have quotes from the book, and the conclusion said basically what you just explained.

We had to pick poems from any time period we chose ( no less then 1800 and no more then 1900). Then we had to write 5 pages on how the poetry connects to the time period and the history. 

This is my second five paragraph essay for the second marki g period benchmark. We, as a class again read a book called the Odyssey, and then we choose a topic on nostos and cleos and wrote it down in five paragraph.

In the 2nd quarter we read the Odyssey and we wrote a 2 paragraph essay on the Odyssey. From what i can remember, in this text we were given thesis and I chose one to prove. Odyssey in my opinion is a kid text in adult language. Odyssey is very metaphorical which tends to make one belief that it is deep.

We had to write a 5 paragrah essay about the Odyessey, same thing from Kindred we had to make a Thesis and back it up. 

Our First benchmark for English was a five paragraph essay about using thesises.  We learned how to state and prove a thesis statement.  We had to write a thesis statement about the reading we did on kindred so far.  The requirements for the project was to prove the thesis statement that you made up. 

This is my five paragraph essay for the first marking period benchmark. We, as a class, read a book called Kindred and choose a toipc to write about and wrote it down in five paragraph.

For our 2nd marking period we had to write a paper on the odyssey. We used parts for the book to prove our thesis. We used quotes from the book to prove what we thought.

For this assienmnet I wrote the paper and i got it peer edited and peer reviewed during class. I made the corrections that the class helped me find.

We had to write a 5 paragrpah essay on the book we read "Kindred". We had to make up a Thesis and then back up our Thesis with good points.

    We wrote a five-paragraph essay on of the characters in the Odyssey and how they relate to real life. We also used quotes in the book to support our thesis. I wrote about Odysseus and how he and others think they know want they want but act otherwise.  My paper on Odysseus can be found here.

The first quarter benchmark was a 5 paragraph essay written around the book Kindred by Octavia E. Butler. The book was about a woman who goes back in time to save her white ancester from dying so she can be born 100 years later. We had to find something in the book we felt strongly about and write a 5 paragraph essay on it. Mine was that its easy to advise others to live with their pain. To complete the assinment I had to find quotes that backed up my theises from the book and anaylize them.

    We were reading Kindred. We had to write a five-paragraph essay on a topic inspired by the book. I chose to write about the love in the book and how it covered flaws. We used quotes from the book to support our points. Click!

For our fisrt quarter benchmark for english we had to write a five paragraph essay on a book that we read called, Kindered. We used Kindered to write a 5 paragraph essay on something that we believed in.

for this assignment I sat down and wrote the assignement then we peer reviewed and edited them.  

Our first quarter benchmark for english was based on our first text, Kindred. We were given thesis to prove or we had a chance to write one of our own. I dedcided to create my own thesis because the students who did that automatically started out with 9 points in their application part of their rubric.

In this 5 paragraph essay we talked about the book the Odyssey. We had to prove a thesis about one of the characters. I picked that Odysseus was a bad person for many reasons. 

In this 5 paragraph essay we had to write a 5 paragraph essay. In this essay we used kindred and had to pretend we were the author. We had to write a prolouge saying what happened between the 5 blank years where they dont talk about hwat hapened to her. I said that she tried to run away again but got caught and beat, more elaborate though. 

In this benchmark we had to connect History and Poems. My topic was the Vietnam War. 

    We wrote a five-page paper on how we can relate poetry to real life. I related the poetry of the middle ages and how the women were treated. I got to find and use some great sources. Five pages sounds like a lot but it went by really fast. I almost felt like I needed more space.
