After reading To Kill A Mockingbird, and discussing how small towns neglects changes, we were asked to write a speech on a change/new idea, that was being neglected. Using persuastion skills, by appealing to the mind, and heart of our listeners, we presented a new idea. Telling the town, what they were doing wrong, and why they shouldn't do it. We also had to console them, by saying that we understood why they neglected the new idea.

My class had to write a 5 paragraph for this benchmark. What we had to do was choose a topic and elaborate on it more using kindred as a source. We had to add in quotes from kindred and examples of how our topic can relate to kindred. The way I went about completing this I had take notes on the things in kindred that proves my point. After I gathered all my information I put it all in order, typed it up had a peers look over it, fixed the corrections and handed it to the teacher for it to be cheeked fix what needed to be fixed, then turned it in for a final grade. I chose to do a time period that many don't know about, the terra cotta soldiers. The songs that i used for my poems was a song by Luise armstrong called "on the sunny side of the street and a song by Miltonager and Jack Yellen called "happy days are here again". For the first quarter benchmark I had to write a five-paragraph essay proving something about kindred. A five-paragraph essay is a kind of persuasive essay that is constrained to five paragraphs. Each paragraph has a special purpose. The first paragraph is the introduction where you introduce your thesis statement. The second, third, and forth each have a supporting point that proves the thesis statement. Then the last paragraph concludes the essay. The way I did this was think of a thesis statement and write 3 points to support it.

For the second marking piriod benchmark I had to write a 5 paragraph essay on a topic i found in the book The Odyssey. the book is about a man called Odysseus who went into the trojan war and didnt come back. Not to say that hes dead, he just didnt come back yet. His wife,penelope, has 40 suitors who want to mary her because they think odysseus is dead. The suitors are plotting to kill Her 17 year old son who goes off to find his father while Odysseus is acually trying to get home but the Gods are against him. The topic i chose to write about was that Telemacus(Odysseus and Penolpes son) is smarter then his father. To do this i found information from the book to support my theses. I also had to think about situattions in real life where this is shown.

This benchmark was by far on of the most interesting thing that we did in english. We foccussed on a poetry unit where we compared history and poetry in our paper. We wrote a pages paper on a time period of our choice. We were allowed to use any time period that was beyond the 80's. This project was interesting, but the research was frutrating. It was by far the most stressful thing that i did in the school, because researching for it and making a connection between poetry and history was complicated, but in the end, it became easy and i did it well.

The benchmark for the 3rd quarter benchmark we had to write a 5 page essay on a certian time period. I wrote mine on the 1960's on the drugs of that time and the the way that the drugs influenced the music. I wrote about the major things with drugs and music that happened int he 1960's and the way that people thought it was "COOL" to do drugs.

For this project I did a lot of research. I wrote my paper according to the research that I found. It took me a while to understand and actually be able to write the paper. In the end we had our paper peer reviewed and edited.

Odyssey in my opinion is a kid text in adult language. Odyssey is very metaphorical which tends to make one belief that it is deep.

For this assienmnet I wrote the paper and i got it peer edited and peer reviewed during class. I made the corrections that the class helped me find.

    We don’t take people into our homes without knowing them. We all think that’s a little insane. Well in the book the book The Odyssey they take hospitality very seriously. We would never even think about doing that but there are many time sin the book when this happens. People would argue that in this book the amount of violence and hospitality are similar but which is valued more. Hospitality is valued more because in the book they don’t care who you are they take you in and give you food clothes or whatever you need, then they find out who you are, where your from etc.
    In the book Telemachus goes out to find his father. He comes to an island and meets some men. They invite him and Mentor (Athena) to come and eat with them. Mind you that they know nothing about Telemachus and Mentor. They don’t try to fight with them and say get out of here and hide their food from them. They are nice and they are very hospitable. Between pages 97-106 lines 143-477 is when they are talking to the men on the island and when they are eating the food. Quote…………..
    Also in the book Odysseus goes to an island and he stays with a nymph Calypso. He stays with her on an island for a while. He just landed on the island and she took him in. she didn’t know who he was or what he was about. She even made love to him but, she didn’t know where he was from or what diseases he might have. On pages 154 to 160 lines 65 to 278 is a part where he is with Calypso. Quote…………..
    The last point in the story that someone was hospitable to someone else was when The King’s daughter found Odysseus on the beach and she brought him back to her house. Yes Athena did make her do that but, then the King told Odysseus he could stay there. The King then threw him a party with a bard. On page 191 to192 the King told the people in the village to go see Odysseus “ Come this way, you lords and captains of Phaecia to the meeting grounds and learn about the stranger! A new arrival. Here at our wise kings palace now he’s here from roving the ocean, driven far off course- he looks like a deathless god!” the reason why they do this is to make him feel welcome and they all want to see him and try to find out who he is.
    In conclusion hospitality is valued more because in the book they don’t care who you are they take you in and give you things and then find out who you are and where your from etc. In our time we would never do anything like this because there are a lot of sick people put there that would try to rape you or kill you.

The book was about a woman who goes back in time to save her white ancester from dying so she can be born 100 years later.
