Personal Statement # 2

Project Description: First quarter in our Algebra class, I taught a class.   The students and teacher switched roles in the classroom, and we taught lessons from our sequence unit.  This unit consisted of the Fibonacci, cubic, and binary sequences.  My group members, and I presented the cubic sequence.

I chose to present this because…  although it was a math project, every other subject that we do in school was involved. So, it just wasn’t a math project, but it served as a mini representation of the skills that I’ve learned within all classrooms.

This piece demonstrates that I… can take a powerful stand in a new world. I had limited knowledge about sequences, but I indulged myself in a world of research, and later presented my findings. The greatness behind this project was that not only did I educate myself on something new, but also I shared my knowledge with others. I was very proud of presenting recently gained knowledge, as if it was something that I’ve known from birth.

What I learned from this assignment: I learned that there are numerous ways of discovering, and learning new things. I was forced to look at sequences from multiple points of views. I looked at it from my eyes, the eyes of my group members, and the eyes of the mathematician who provided, and discovered the sequence. This project was also my first attempt to make world, and everyday life connections in math.
