What heppened was the setting and the plot was being established. It is October of 1957 and it had ben raining in the town of Derry for a week or so straght and the most of the power is out. George Denborough is introduced as the main character playing with a paper boat that his older brother had made for him and when the chapter ended he was chasing after it.

I engage and benefit in this class several ways. I engage and benefit physicaly, internally, and exteranlly. I participate in complex and mature conversations based off of opinoins, predictions and facts from the book. I collaborate with my classmates on thoughts and summaries of the books. In the mix of reality based conversations there is a tension of a loving andtruthfulness
in the entire room. The teachers reflect on our work and give feed back on what we did, we then edit and present our projects connecting with the class.

Q1 benchmark Yeast Lab
Submitted by Caroline Abdulbaki on Fri, 04/04/2008 - 17:40.
A. For this project I had to do a lab about yeast respiration. My partner Perry Woods, and I had to find different foods or liquid to mix with the yeast, to see how it would react. We then had to wirte a research about it.
B. I did this expirement by filling up a 3 flasks with yeast, with one liquid each. Then we put a ballon on top of each flask, and we left them to see if the balloon will rise. We took pictures of out flasks, and took notes everytime we went to check on the flasks and the yeast.
C. If I would have an opportunity to do this project again, I would work with my partner better so we could've had a better idea on how to present our information. I would have also change my food and liquids so then something interesting would have actually happend to the yeast and the balloon.
Q3 benchmark Y,and X
Submitted by Caroline Abdulbaki on Fri, 04/04/2008 - 17:32.
A. For this q3 benchmark, I had to make 2 graphs, of 2 things that are being compared. I also had to find the y-intercept, slope, and the equation. With that, I also had to answer questions that went along with each graph.
B. I did this project by reseraching my topic, and taking notes for it. I also put each into a graph and found everything that was needed for me to find.
C. If I had the oppurtunity to do this project differently, I would change have more knowledge about my topic to present to my class and my teacher.
My Q3 Algebra Benchmark
Submitted by Sabria Brown on Fri, 04/04/2008 - 17:22.
1. For this project we had picked 2 topics. These topics could have been real simple as the battery compared to the power over time. You compared these two topics and assumed that these 2 topics will have a graph going in a positive or negative correlation or scatter plot. The point of the project was to assume and make predictions which was your hypothesis and collect data, and research to find the real results. I chose to pick the careers I wanted to pursue. I wanted to be a chef and a concierge. After we answered questions about our research. Then we presented.

Grade- B average
Reflection-
This was one of the best benchmarks I had all year because the students got to participate by picking thier own topics.
It gave benefits for future job incomes, graphing, general math and presentation skills.
Collaboration/Presentation- When we were finished our benchmark we presented it to a small group of five which helped others learn new things and share what you worked on.
Thank You Mr. Rochester for putting effort creating our benchmark. It shows that it was throughout and interesting.
Q3 Algebra Benchmark
Submitted by Ryan Boyer on Fri, 04/04/2008 - 17:12.
This project is the Q3 algebra benchmark. The aim of this benchmark was for us to choose to different topics that we thought had linear relationships. For this project I graphed my relationships, solved for the equations, and answered numerous questions for my research. If I could do this project over I would choose my line of best fit more carefully.

Q1 Algebra Benchmark- Power Sequences
Submitted by Megan Doe on Fri, 04/04/2008 - 17:09.
1) In this project I had to define what a power sequence is then upload my work onto my class blog.
2) In order to do this, I had to research online what a power sequence is and used old text books to see if I could find anything in there.
3) If I could do one thing differently, It would be asking for better directions on how to upload to the class blog. It was my first benchmark in algebra at SLA and I had no idea how to work the blog.
Q2 benchmark- cell phone companies
Submitted by Megan Doe on Fri, 04/04/2008 - 16:58.
1) During this Q2 becnhamrk I had to compare two different cell phone companies to each other and decide which one would be a better deal based on my real life cell phone bill.
2) In order to complete this benchmark I had to get my cell phone bill and then apply my data to each cell phone company plan. Then I had to compare the two companies and see which one was better fit for my cell phone bill.
3) If I were to do this again, I would proabably start working on the project earlier than I did instead of staying up until 5 in the morning. If I wouldn't have procastinated, I believe I would have been able to make my work more clear and have less typos in the write-up.

Q3 Algebra Benchmark
Submitted by Melissa Buchanico on Tue, 04/01/2008 - 17:33.
In this assignment, we were to pick a topic for study and compare it by graphing a scatter plot in sketchup. I finished the assignment with time to spare, and honestly didn't like it that much. I believe it taught me how to graph on the computer alot better than I originally understood. If I could redo this project I would take ALOT more time on it.

Q3 Benchmark
Submitted by Megan Doe on Tue, 04/01/2008 - 17:13.
a. This assignment is my Q3 benchmark at Science Leadership Academy. In this project I chose two variables that I could compare with various methods suchs a graphs and linear equations. With this, I was able to choose two potential jobs I might want when I am older and compare their salary rates.
b. I completed this assignment by doing plenty of reasearch on each job salary over the course of 10 years. Once I collected my data, I was able to graph my findings on a prgram called sketchpad. Also, with the wonderful support of my teacher, I stayed at school until 8:30 pm finishing this project along with fellow classmates and a helping mother.
c. If I were able to do this project again, I would have taken more time to figure out how to use the sketchpad program better to make my work look more clear.
Ryan's Q3 History Benchmark
Submitted by Ryan Boyer on Fri, 03/28/2008 - 14:21.
This assignment is a history reflection of what my 9th grade class learned in African American history for the 3rd quarter of our semester. I completed this assignment by reflecting on our class project project, which was a mock-trial and newspaper based on colonial/ state laws that had to do with slavery or segregation. I decided to use the Jena 6 case, the Dred Scott Desicion, Scotts-Boro boys, and Barack Obama for examples of my research. If I had a chance to do this project over again I would add more research the racial slurs against Barack Obama more in depth.

Quarter 1 benchmark; Rochester
Submitted by Kimberly Yarnall on Tue, 12/18/2007 - 18:26.
For the quarter one benchmark for Algebra we got put into groups and were given sequences that we had to work with. We had to research about the sequence assigned to us and post information on wikispace to show that we got information for the sequence. My group had to do research on the Fibonocci sequence. For the project I helped by getting a lot of information on the fibonocci sequence. For example, how it started and why. Also, what the formula for it is. If I was to do this project again, I would work better in my group instead of trying to work on my own to try and get the project finished.
power sequence benchmark
Submitted by Andre Serrano on Tue, 12/18/2007 - 18:05.
For our first algebra benchmark the teached had us research information on power sequences with out group and then put it into a wikispace and present it to the class. Also we had a test on the information presented which affected our grade for our benchmark.
I started off by looking through my notes and adding information to the wikispace. I then took the information and put it together in a powerpoint so i could teach a 10 minute lesson to my class about where it came from, what its' used for, etc. I took notes on other peoples' projects so i would do well on the following test.
I would change format in which we did it because wikispaces can somtimes be confusing.
