Taino Tribe Member: Sister Zitkala

“Today, is the day that our tribe stumbled upon something that was different for our way of life.”

On this day men swam onto the land in a giant canoe. The man that seemed like the chief and was named “Christopher Columbus” plunged toward the Tribe Medicine Wizard, Brother Wakoyantanke. Chief Akecheta ordered the hunters to seize the other chief and they successfully terminated him. The rest of the tribe decided to act calmly and they decided to make peace with us so they could learn the customs of our people and the things that we must go through in order to please the Higher Being. Since we Tainos are a peaceful people, we decided to allow them the wish of joining our tribe. The new tribe members understood that they must fully commit to our customs or they will be left to die on their own. We Tainos, are a family and in this family, everything is for everyone.

Podcast Written Reflection
            We were given a very broad topic. There are many ways to cross boundaries. Depending on the type of boundaries you are choosing to cross, results in different ways. Doing an interview on this topic was very challenging since there were so many subtopics to choose from.  After choosing a subtopic and a person to interview, it’s time to start recording.

Dialog:

Hello this is war news. Thank you for tuning in. Today we were attacked by Japan. In order to fully understand the situation, we will ask one of the navy men who was on duty in the battlefield against Japan. We have, Pvt. John Apple here to tell us about his experience.

Yes Sandy, thank you for having me.

I will, I remember it was a nice relaxing day. I had finished my shift and was headed to bed around 6am. I woke up to what I thought was my alarm, but it was the emergency high defense alarm. I sprung out of bed and got my pilot gear on then jumped into my airplane to hold back Japan from getting to our main base. We held them off until the other men on base got on the machine guns and shot down the planes one by one. About 5 of our men had died and 20 were injured. If that alarm had never gone off, we wouldn’t have gotten away with such low death rates. I’m glad we managed to make it out safely.

Wow, such a miraculous story. Good job and keep it up. We are counting on you guys and know you’ll make it through. Well that’ the top news for today so tune un next time.
