2008 PIAA Cross-Country Championships

Congratulations to Alison Campbell for running a fantastic race this past Saturday at the PIAA Cross-Country State Championship at Hershey Park in Hershey, PA! Alison finished with a time of 23:04 and placed 222nd out of more than 300 runners. Way to go, Alison, for running a great race and for being the first athlete to represent SLA at a state competition!
Cross Country District Championships on Saturday!!!

Come cheer the SLA Cross-Country on this Saturday at the District Championship Meet! The AA boys race starts at 12:00, the AA girls race is at 12:45 and the event is held at Belmont Plateau (Belmont and Montgomery).

The SLA Cross-Country team competed in it's first official Public and Catholic League Championship on Friday, October 10th! In the Varsity race, Alison Campbell finished 8th out of 120 runners and received honors for her top 20 finish.
We have our last regular season meet this Tuesday, October 14th, and finish up the season on Saturday, October 25th, with the District Championships, where teams and individuals compete for positions in the PA State Cross-Country Championships.

As the nice weather was approaching and I overheard students started discussing the latest fad crash diet for whatever reason, I couldn't think of a better time to talk about healthy nutrition and exercise in Spanish class! Before we even started the unit, students blogged for five days about what they ate, how many minutes of exercise and how many hours of sleep they had each night. (My initial plan was to have pen pals from Spain simultaneously blog about their diet, exercise and sleep patterns and then have the two groups of students do a cross-cultural comparison of each others' habits; however, it did not work out and this component of the project was left out.) After talking about using the subjunctive tense, students went back to each others' blogs and reflected on their own habits and make reccomendations for each other.
For the final project, the students turned into personal trainers and made five-day meals plans complete with exercise reccommendations for another student. The first attachement is an explanation of the project and the final two attachments are examples of student work.

Comí cereal y tomé un té.
El Almuerzo:
Comí un burrito de pollo y frijoles negres. Tomé un té caliente.
La Cena:
Comí pollo a la parilla con salsa verde, espinacas y pan de ajo. Tomé Diet Dr. Pepper.
Las Meriendas:
Comí unos M&M's.
Ejercicio:
Corrí por 60 minutos.

Tomé 2 tazas de café.

Comí una hamburgesa de pavo, espinacas y chips con salsa. Tomé root beer.
Las Meriendas:
Comí una barra de proteina. 
Ejercicio:
Corrí por 30 minutos y levanté pesas por 30 minutos.
