Othello Blog #1

My group consists of Gracie, Moriah, Vince and myself. So, far we have picked our theme (Manipulation), who is going to do what act and what scene, what type of performance we will give, who the team manger is (Moriah) and who the presentation manger is (Gracie).

The team so far has worked really well together. We balance each other out. Which makes it easier for us to get things done. So, far we have had no problems. The only problem I can see us having is the time to do what we want to do for our production.

Lies.Decit.Love.

Reading Othello is something new and exciting. It's my favorite shaksphere play. It has many themes in it. So much lying and decving. It's sad but very good. This play rasies many questions. Was Othello really that dumb not to see what Iago was doing? Did he really love desdoma the way he said he did? If so why didn't he belive her? It also makes me think of how we as humans think. What we feel. How we act .And it's kind of scary.

Blog # 5 Teenage Depression + Stress

With prayer, 'all things are possible,' but sometimes depression requires additional action. Another treatment for depression (teenage or adult) is religion. It is to be said that religion is the best treatment for depression. In this article Mr. Tony Complot talks about what and why could make us depressed how the bible deals with depression. In this article he also talks about how the church is also responsible for teens being so depressed.

“I have a special concern about how the church has generated destructive guilt among gay and lesbian young people. Suicide is the second most common cause of death among teenagers, and many suicide victims are young people who hate themselves because of their sexual identities. Whatever else the church does, it certainly is outside the will of God if it is causing teenagers to hate themselves.” This very true statement. Most churches bash any young person or any person if they like the opposite sex. This can cause depression because the teen feels as though they don’t belong and they are wrong. How would you feel if someone told you that because you are hetro-sexual that you were wrong and you were going to hell if you didn’t repent?

Un fair isn’t it. It’s who you are and it makes you. Someone saying that would make you feel bad about yourself. Which yet again leads to depression. This is also stress and pressure, which can also lead to depression. The stress is that you aren’t good enough by the church guidelines. The pressure is to change that they are so that someone else can be happy? Not cool at all.

Another valid point that Mr. Calmo makes in his article is that teenagers may be depressed from the lack of sleep they get every night. Depression is not only a state of mind but it is also a physical aspect. If we are not getting enough sleep this can cause us to act cranky and very grumpy. Which cause you to be unhappy which leads to depression.

Blog # 4 Teenage Depression = Stress

Obesity and Teenage depression? Go hand and hand, who would have ever thought? In recent a recent study they found out that in Florida for every 1 out of 3 teens that are obese also have symptoms of depression.

The reason for this is that most teens that are overweight are unhappy with themselves. The teen feels as though because they are overweight they aren’t liked as much. Which in some cases is very true. Teens have a way of making their peers feel horrible about them selves. Whether it is looks, weight, gender or even race. This can and will cause major depression issues.

How can we change this? If you ever saw the movie mean girls there is a scene in there where the girls of that certain school have a heart to heart. They say what’s on their mind and exactly how they feel. I think this would be an effective way to try and get teens to understand how someone else is feeling. If everyone said how they felt when someone picked on them or when they were made fun of someone because they way they looked. The teens would most likely be able to relate to each other and connect with one another. From this slowly but surely try to stop making people feel pressured. This would somehow cut down on the amount of depressed teens there are in Philadelphia. Then hopefully the untied states.

Blog Post # 3 Stress = Teenage Depression

Is teenage depression here at Science Leadership Academy? This was the thought that crossed my mind as I read this
article .This article is about a community that has recently have had 3 suicide one after another. These are a first in thirty years.

You would think that this would cause the adults to stop and listen to the teen’s right? Wrong. The government of this island decides to bring in specialist on teenage depression and suicide. The teens on the island were very confused about the specialist. “These experts, they trickled in after the first death,” said Olivia Hull, 18, a writer and an editor at the school newspaper, Verities. “Then there were more after the others. It was all very confusing.” The specialists were not helping at all. In reality they were making everything worse.

This is a time when the adults of the island need to be talking to their kids . Instead of pushing it off on someone else. This seems to be a current problem with us humans. Instead of talking about our problems we tend to brush them on to someone else or sweep them under the rug. If this were to happen more their just might be less depressed teens.

Stress=Teenage Depression #2

Teens receive stress from  three main groups; family, friends, and society. The most intense stress comes from their family. However, the most constant is probably from thier friends.  But, society also has a large role.

  Family stress is a problem for every age group.  But, it seems to be especially bad for teens. This is probably because most teens parents have very high expectations for their children. This often overwhelms the teen and makes them feel worthless because of unmet expectations. Teens start feeling sorry for themselves.  This could lead to depression.
Not only do teens face stress at home, they also face it while with their friends.  Many face peer pressure.  For example : Say you’re a teen and you have a group of  best friends that all smoke, but you don’t. Your friends keep pressuring you into smoking when you know it’s wrong.  However, you know if you don’t start smoking, they will ditch you and you will be alone. Once again, teens are placed in a stressful situation.  Over time, this type of stress may lead to depression.
The last stress giving group is society. Society's expectations from teens are many times insulting. Society expects female teens to get pregnant and drop out of school. This is especially true in the case of minorities. Males, on the otherhand,  are thought to be troublemakers and dropouts. How can anyone survive with this amount of stress.  Teens feel people are always judging them. They feel like what's the point and are defeated. This final stress probably will lead to depressionh.
Teens need a break.  Adults need to find a new way to encourage teens to be successful.  They should try to remember when they were young.  Friends, need to be there for each other.  They should be more understanding and stop pressuring each other.  And finally society, needs new images.  More positive advertisements about teens would be helpful. Each group needs to more sensitive to what is happening to teens.

Stress= Teenage Depression

Depression. A mental state characterized by a pessimistic sense of inadequacy and a despondent lack of activity. (Goggle’s definition). Any one can be depressed from age 5 to 99 but teenage depression is becoming a lot more common. 4 out of every 100 teens are depressed. That means at least 8 students at Science Leadership Academy are depressed.
Most adults say what possibly could a teenager be stressed about? Well there are a lot of things that continue to teenage depression. In this article (http://www.helpguide.org/mental/depression_teen.htm) they give symptoms and warnings.
“While some “growing pains” are to be expected as teenagers grapple with the challenges of growing up, dramatic, long-lasting changes in personality, mood, or behavior are red flags of a deeper problem.” Everyone gets depressed at one time or another. So, it’s natural for a teen to be sad for a couple days or maybe a week. But when it turns to many weeks and months you should be concerned.
Teens are under a lot pressure. From school, their parents their friends, society. What is something I can do that could possibly save someone from depression? What can society and we as a SLA community do to help someone out maybe even save their life?
