Crime In Jamaica .:.:Post 1:.:.

Before I can figure out how the murder rate in Jamaica can be reduced, I will have to figure out how many murders plague Jamaica each year.

I know that Jamaica has one of the highest murder rates in the world; but how bad is it really?

"The figures are chilling - there were 1,674 murders in 2005, up from
1,471 murders the year before [2004]. Last year [2006], the number of murders came
down to 1,340."
Said Soutik Biswas of the BBC News in 2007

Jamaican crime has gotten bad enough to the point that more than 10 people can get killed in a 48 hour time period. The Gleaner reports:

"THE ORGY of violence which resulted in more than 1,600 people being
murdered across the island last year [2008] has continued in 2009 with 13
persons killed in the first 48 hours."

These chilling statistics show that what can happen in Jamaica during 48 hours... Can't happen in Philadelphia in 64 hours.

After looking at the Philadelphia Police District's Crime Map I found out that between 1/5/2010 and 1/7/2010 only one murder occoured.

The information I have gathered so far will help me write the first half of my paper on Jamaican Crime.

Election Day 2009

Today I visited my local voting place to ask a few questions about the turnout during this election and the turnout during last years election.

Did you work here during the last election?  Yes

Do you think there are as many people voting in this election as there were last year? No, this year we have had 42 people come and vote so far, and last year we had 203 voters.

What do you think the best part of of working at the polls is? Getting to meet new people, and knowing that I am helping people get their voices heard.

What do you think is the worst of working at the polls? Sometimes there are a lot of people coming in at once, and it is hard to regester all of them at once, other than that everything is good.

"Friends" TTTC

The chapter "friends" in TTTC was very interesting. After reading the first paragraph I was so interested and really didn't want the chapter to end. The chapter was short sweet and to the point, and I am starting to notice how every chapter in the book has some type of moral to it. In this chapter I am guessing the moral was "friends or not teamwork comes first" and that sounds corny and all but thats what seemed to come out of the chapter from my perspective.
