Hannah's Bills! September 28, 2009

No movement on any of the three.

The federal bill:

Traditionally, Republicans are socially conservative. Therefore, they're not too friendly to the gays. So, a bill decriminalizing homosexuality in any way would not be much of a good thing for most Republican congressmen to vote for. And since everyone's trying to be all bipartisan with the healthcare bill, the Democrats don't want to push too much for Republicans to stand behind something their base doesn't like.

The state bill:

I really don't know why it's moving so slowly, because it seems to be a fairly simple act, just getting some paperwork in accordance with federal standards. But, I'm not sure if all states are required to be in agreement with this paperwork section or not. If it's not a requirement, some might be hesitant to support it, because it could end up in some people unintentionally registering for military service.

The city bill:

The next meeting for this bill is on Thursday. So it might just get passed free and clear right then! It was only introduced a week or so ago, so I wouldn't expect much action yet.

you missed the second part of the assignment...

please recheck moodle and comment on the reflection prompt for this week. the movement of the bills was only part of the assignment.

Lauf.
