The leading killer of hopes and dreams is not:
- poverty
- depression
- drugs
- sex
- alcohol.
The true killer is mass media. One of the main contributors of mass media is television. People spend countless amounts of time watching television. According to parentstv.org, "[The] average time kids spend watching Television each day [is] 4 hours. According to the A.C. Neilson Company, "In 65 year life span, that person will have spent 9 years glued to the tube." That is years of wasting opportunity.
700
- According to the Nutrition Health Center, " "700 families found that 14-year-old boys who watched relatively more television were more likely to have assaulted someone or committed a serious act of aggression by the time they were 22 years old."
- "The number of sexual incidents that occur during the "family hour" prime-time hour (between 8-9 p.m.) increased more than 400 percent since 1976." ( Nutrition Health Center)
- According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, "[AAP] recommend no TV for children under 2 and no more than two hours of viewing time a day for older kids."
109.6
- The estimated number of TV homes: 109.6 million (parentstv.org)
- 44% of kids say they watch something different when they're alone than with their parents. (parents.org)

Mass media always have a bigger plan when creating an ad. A teen named Lesley was quoted in Girls Talks, shared her opinion of mass media. "They have ads of how you should dress andwhat you should look like and this and that, and then they say, 'butrespect people for what they choose to be like.' Okay, so which do wedo first?"

Mass Media is replacing the roles of parents. As economic struggles continue, the amount of time parents spend with their children starts to dwindle. Without the nurturing of a parent children are exposed to outside influences. According to Particia Marks of Harvard, a few of the influences affecting children, are:
- television
- radio
- advertising
- movies
- internet

Election Day

The biggest difference from this years and last is the "importance" of the election. Since its just a race for a judge, instead of a president no one seems to care. Even though the judges hold more power to affect peoples lifes in their state then the president. When asking poll people they said that many people came and the answer was athe same OBAMA. "Even college kids came to vote, they even came all the way out here to vote."said a pole person.Obama starte a movement that many could never fathom. He inspired young and old. I just dont understand why many are so ignorance as to do something many of ancestors had to fight for. THEIR RIGHT TO VOTE.

What was the point of reading this book? Maybe it was just another grade. Or just because I didn't want to fail. The one thing I did take away for this book was how to but yourself in the story. Like I can put a random object into a story make everyone think it makes no sense at all. Then I make it the most important part of the story. For example if I was to talk about an apple. I describe that its red, shiny, and half eaten. Then I'd tell a story about little Jimmy and how something dramatic happened to him. Such as he never reached his fullest potnetial it was always like he was step behind. Just like the half eaten apple. Always being seen as not complete because half of it is gone. This could of been a could set up for the sweetheart song trabong. How Anne find the other half of her apple. Then the apple is not a made up object but just as relevent as the rest of it. I wish I could perfect writing like the author and find out how to take a focus of an idea. And to make something Irrelevant become Relevant.
The lives of the dead

The way the book was ended was beautifully done. Throughout the entire book there were times when the book seemed pointless. But the one thing it did was keep my attention. The way his stories were so believable. I was almost heartbroken to hear that the stories were fictional. I started to how could I have been so fooled. The metaphor he uses at the end of book is almost impossible to interpret. At first I thought it meant that the dead never truly die but live on in ourselves. But than I tried to relate to the idea. The thought that he treasured the moments he would slumber so he could the girl of his dreams. She never truly died. He saw it as something that was staged. I tried to relate but really couldn't. I could really thing of emotions. Maybe he was insane, crazy, or just being farfetched. After thinking about the emotions they seemed to add up to love. Love can crazy with thinking about doing things you never dreamed of. It can crazy because at times you can feel like every around is insane when they your crazy in love. The author had a great love for Linda. The only way for him to ever be able to stand living without her was to create a fantasy were she still existed. Once he had perfected it, he put everyone else who had died, and made them become alive once again.
Everyone has their own "pond" where they believe anything is possible. It's just for us to look into are hearts and deep into the interiors of our mind to find it.

two things stuck into my mind the most. Fullfilent and Lost
Everyone has the feeling of that something is missing. Many will spend most of their life searching for something they'll never find. Mary Anne Bell was one of those people who luck up and found what their missing. In her case it was the violence, the true essence of fear. She felt at peace when she was with the greenies at night. She feel inlove with the war. I hate for that. I would love to find something that I don't even know that is missing from me. The passion described in her eyes, and just the fact that she was not oblivious to unknown, makes her a new breed of a person. She had taken on another idea. This would best explain when rat kiley looked into her eyes he did not see the same sweet innocent girl. She had changed in her eyes for the better, and in his the worst.
Rat kiley life was perfect, he was inlove. Nothing else matter to him because at the end of the day he would always have Mary Anne Bell to turn to. Once he lost her, a part of him died. This is a true explanation of with every great gain there is a sacrifice. In rat kiley's it was an enormous sacrifice. He lost his soulmate. Its pretty ironic. By bringing her to the war, so she could be closer to him. With each step closer she came to him and the war, she was really moving away. Eventually she crossed the point of return. Now rat kiley is alone. This might of been the true reason for his suicide.
My vision of school
Submitted by jderry on Tue, 10/13/2009 - 15:55.
When students hear the word school many of the same thoughts come to mind. Students stay up until well into the wee hours of the morning doing homework, and wake up around 7, to get to classes at 8:15. Students are forced study and take strenuous test. Those test are suppose to judge the knowledge of what kind of smarts a student has. But there isn’t one test to see what kind of smarts a student has. The system is flawed, and could be better.
School should be a bridge to a students dreams and goals in life. School should help to create an environment where students can learn to be a critical thinker.
School should not be known as a place a fear, but a safe haven. One of the worries of a student shouldn’t be, they can’t come to school because of a bully. Or they can’t come to school because of an unfinished project or didn’t study for a
test. The only true worry of a student should be how could they add their own unique skills to the learning community.
By school being a bridge, students will be given the tools to succeed in their journey of life. They will have teachers who keep them on the right path. Teachers will push them by setting obstacles to challenge students to grow as a
person. Such as writing a 2fer every other week, add opinions to class discussion, and pushing to understand and analyze new ideas. As a student reaches the end of each challenge, they will learn something about themselves. They will learn
what is the best way for them to show their skills. Whether it’s drawing a picture, answering a math question, or just expressing their opinions in poems.
Once a student can find what their skills are they can start to find a subject or field that best suits their personalities. It will be the schools job to give the students the necessary classes to give them a basic level of knowledge. Such as math, reading, and the history of the world. These way students will have an idea of what they are good at, and the same time the knowledge to gain access to the dreams they want to achieve.
School will help the society greatly. The students making choices on what they want to be when they grow up. The same students that fail a math test or are called a failure could be the next mayor, governor, secretary of state, president, or even the next teachers of young minds. Those students will hold the fate of the world in the palm of their hands. Since, the school system will be focused on creating the best environment for students to become their own person. Students will be given the chance to learn how to take responsibility of their actions, by being given a lot of freedom and seeing how they can handle it. The system prepares students for the world. Students will be taught how to tell right from wrong. So, when they go out into the world, there will be a lease likely chance of them becoming corrupted by greed or self-pity. They focused on the main task at hand making the world a better place.
This vision of school will not need test that judge students knowledge on a subjects such as math and vocabulary. Instead their knowledge and character will judge them. They will be judged by the choices and decisions they make. If they make mistakes they will be judged by what they learn from them. By these test the students will learn life long skills. This way student will have book and street smarts. Students will have the tools to go out in the world and be trusted with the fate of world, and its well being.

The power of the word promise is mostly view as powerful. I see that as pathetic. All promises are meant to be broken. So, why should people waste their time saying you promise to do something when you know you will find an excuse to break it. The word promise should be banned. People should say i will try my best until I find it not my best benifit to help you so, I'm just gonna give up. This is the mentality of many people of the world. It's one of the reasons were in such a debacle now. Instead of helping one another better ourselves. When want to destroy and shut people down. So, they can prove they are the best. If people could realize its about we not me. The world would be a much better place.

"It wasn't cruelty, just stage presence. They were actors. When someone died, it wasn't quite, dying, because in a curious way it seemed sc ripted, and because they had their lines mostly memorized , irony mixed with tragedy, and becauase they called it by ither names, as if to enccyst and destroy the reality of death itself." pg 20

I wish I could...
I wish I could stop
Trying to hide they way
I fee inside.
I wish I could
Turn your face into a smile
Instead of a grin. I would never
Know where to begin.
I wish I could look into your eyes
And Be able to lie.
So, I wouldn't always
Be the one left to cry
From feeling deprived.
I wish I could
Stop glaring
long enough to show you how much
I cared.
Because instead of love
All there is, is hate.
I feel like I'm the prime canidate
To end up alone
Because all our feelings are gone.

There are many different opinions of what the sense of being unknowing does to a person. Some feel like they are lost, and confused. While others just try to give up and not even try to find out where or what is going on. A great example of this is in the book, Lord of the flies. A group of boys are stranded on an island and they encounter the sense of the unknown. When they boys were exposed to the unknown of the island their sense of dealing with the unknown are tested and they show their true colors of fear, confusion and anger.

Submitted by jderry on Thu, 10/30/2008 - 19:32.
A sports team can represent many things. A sport teams can represent success. It can represent failure as well. But there is a deeper meaning to a sports team. A sporst team represents a ray of light. That light represents a hope. Everyone needs hope to survive. Hope is the one thing that keeps you going during the day. My form of hope, my citys town of hope is the Philadelphia Phillies. Through all their trials and tribulations they always find away to end up on top. Thats what we all want to be the one who can win. The same one who can smile because we can say we did it.

This project was the affect history had on poetry and the affect poetry had on history. The assignment was to write a 5 page essay about a time period and how either history affected how poet's write poetry or how poet's poetry affected history. I choose the time period of 1894-1930. The poet I choose to write about was Vladimir Mayakovsky. The thesis I choose for this essay was Vladimir Mayakovsky’s love affair with Lilya Brik influenced his judgments on his poetry, which cause him to write on the view of rejected lovers. If i was to do this different I would have tried to add more points to help my thesis and to try to find better quotes.

The assignment was to write at least 1-2 scenes about what happen to her husband Kevin. I used a word document, and used Kindred to complete this task. If I was to do this assignment over I would of changed my scenes to something more dramatic to add suspence to the scenes.

This assignment was to create a well-designed controlled experiment based on yeast respiration. For this assignment there were three people working as group to do it. The items tested during the experiment were yeast, sugar, and water. We were trying to find out what kind of changes would occur to these substances when there were combine to CO2.
In the process of completing this assignment we used an application called Logger Pro to create a chart to record what happened to the CO2 in 900 seconds depeding on which substance was being used. Then all the data was put in an excel sheet.
