What makes a good interview and podcast?
Submitted by Milana Lewis-Zakuto on Mon, 09/15/2008 - 14:20.
You may be asking yourself what makes a good interview and podcast. You could have a bad interview but the way that you edit your podcast could make it a whole lot better. Some good things to keep in mind when you want a good interview is to make the person feel comfortable. Ask them questions that will open them up to you, not really personal questions, but questions that will loosen them up.
Blog 2 Othello Q4 Benchmark

My group and I have completed the script and have already started recording for our presentation. The way that we're going to be presenting it is through a podcast. We all have designated people we must reenact for this project. I am doing Desdemona and Cassio, Michael is doing Othello and Roderigo, Dakota is doing Barbantio, and Jacob is doing Iago. My job is also to edit everyones parts to make the podcast ready for the presentation.
The good things about working in this group is that everyone knows their assignments. We all know what we must do to get our portion done and we know how to use our time effectively. But the bad things about working in a group is that some people didn't have computers to use the program we needed to record the lines. So we had to designate times in which we were going to be able to get them to do their part.
For the editing part we had to choose which parts of the script sounded good together, as well as what would get straight to the point without losing story plot. It was hard to analyze all of the text and edit it, but we found out how to do it effectively and correct.
My understanding for the plot and characters, as well as the theme are deepening through this benchmark process because I'm starting to see how things are tying together due to what has happened. I'm also seeing how somethings need to be mentioned in the beginning to make sense of what has happened at the end.

My team and I have already started a Google Doc and we have found almost all lines we need for each scene of the play. It's not as easy as it sounds though, there are some difficulties in finding lines and dialogue that goes along with our theme which is revenge. Because every scene isn't extremely lengthy we've had to cut some scenes out for lack of enough informati. My group is well put together I feel. None of us are slackers and we get what needs to get done because we know that others grades depend on our owns. No one is selfish about it and tries to bring us down by not doing what they're assigned to do. That's a good characteristic about us that I can't say I've experienced many times throughtout the schoolyear.
The way that I'm choosing to edit pieces of this play is to make it so that people will be able to tell what my team's theme is and still get the just of the play by seeing these. When I first started reading the play then I was really into it and I still am as I go through this whole benchmark process. As I get deeped and deeper into the benchmark I'm starting to look at things beneath the surface and think more about how the dialogue relates to the theme we've chose.

Parents impact on teen pregnancy [Blog #10]
Submitted by Milana Lewis-Zakuto on Sat, 04/05/2008 - 03:18.
Everyone learns things a different way. For some people, it’s by listening to a lecture with visuals. For others it’s by talking to people. It’s said that teens that have strong emotional attachments to their parents are less likely to become sexually active at a young age1. When you talk to your parents about certain sensitive topics like pregnancy or even just about what’s going on with your life, it’s easier for you to be open with them and more trustworthy. The problem these days though is that teens don’t usually talk to their parents about topics like that. They keep to themselves with the computer, television and the media becoming their best friends. All of those things have such a big influence in a child’s life and if there were more family-time than teens would feel that there was a sense of security and a safe place for them. The website Family for First Aid states “When surveyed, one in two teens said they trusted their parents most for reliable and viable information on birth control, over a friend.”.
Okay, so just because you talk to your parents about personal subjects doesn’t automatically mean you’re not going to ever get pregnant. But it’s a better chance of not getting pregnant. Statistics show that at age 16, 22 percent of girls from intact families and 44 percent of other girls have had sex at least once. Similarly, teens from intact, two-parent families are less likely to give birth in their teens than girls from other family backgrounds. Those are some good numbers when you think in-depth about it. If teens had more natural conversations to their parents about topics like this, there might not be such a huge epidemic.
Consequences of teen Pregnancy [Blog #9]
Submitted by Milana Lewis-Zakuto on Sat, 04/05/2008 - 01:51.
There are many consequences to teen pregnancy. When getting pregnant while still a teenager you are less likely to complete high school and only 1.5% of teen mothers have a college diploma by the age of 30 1. I swear that these numbers are extremely drastic and profound. I don’t fully believe that the statement is true. But it is statistically proven which is even more unbelievable.
In all this talk of teen pregnancy, is anyone thinking of the children and what consequences lay ahead of them? How they are going to be effected by basically having a child be their parent. I know that it’s already difficult for my mother to raise my sister and I and she was considered quite young when she had us. Yet she was an adult. These children’s parents are 15, 16, 17 years of age. They don’t know what they’re doing to their children and their futures. The website Family for First Aid states, “The children of teenage mothers have lower birth weights, are more likely to perform poorly in school, and are at greater risk of abuse and neglect.”. That whole statement in itself is proof enough that something more effective needs to happen. We can’t continue at the rate we’ve been going. Something must be done.
