A Vision of School

My vision of school kind of collides with many, but at the same time differs from others. My vision is quite simple. School should be a place that exposes students to many different things, so that they may be well rounded when entering into the world beyond that building.  It should be a place of options and opportunity, but have basic concepts that everyone should know.  A school should be able to take the interest of an individual and help them to explore it and if that happens not to be the career path they wish to pursue, then they should have other options to turn to. When a school to has plenty of options and be very helpful towards a student, it helps them. It assures them of a lot and it opens many doors for\ their future.

An open school is good for an individual because in a society where everyone has to compete for everything, the best thing to have under their belt is something that can separate them from the rest. A society and a school within that society should be like partners.  The school would educate the youth, thus giving the society educated and skillful workers. The society in return would give back to the school by being part of funding, activities and things of the sort.

My vision of school main priorities are personality, creativity, and the understanding that not everyone learns the same way. The school would value the importants of ones opinion, social interaction as well as a student having a chance at
finding their element.  The way my vision of school differs from the traditional school is that it welcomes creativity and individuality with open arms. The school that I have in mind will interact with the students on a professional level as well as a personal one. It will help kids to do better then just make it into the world; it would equip them with the knowledge to succeed and conquer anything that comes their way. My school would have the option of tests for that parent who wants it, but it would not require it. My school’s version of a test would be a project that reflects what the students understood, what they obtained over the course of months.

The way that I picture a school should be is free thinking and that the students should question and challenge everything that they possibly can, it’s more of a free spirited environment but gets what they have to get done.

How is "do you know" a call for change and what change is it advocating ?

- it is calling for a positive change in education.

What is, therefore, the implied vision/purpose of school?

- it is supposed to prepare students for the change in the near future, the world, and the  competitive society.

Othello Blog #2

My crew and I finished our research for the lines that show our theme today. We also put together our script but it still has some minor errors. We have been decided that we are going to use paper bags for our presentation. We are using four major characters and I think one minor character. We are not sure on how we are going to stage things yet, but things are moving along smoothly.

Our accomplishes so far are getting our research done in time. We also got our thoughts together for what we want to do, Julia is doing a great job at keeping people on task and I think I am doing a good job at keeping up to date. I am glad to know that our group is getting a long well and that we are collaborating and sharing good ideas. Everyone has something to say. Something I would like to move along is actually making the puppets and finalizing the scripts.

We chosen to instead just have the lines read we put in pauses to set times for example after each scene there will be a card saying something like "one hour later" or " one day later". We might have to take time after school to set our stage. We also took and put together the text so that it smoothly flows into one another.

My understanding of the play is much better then what it was before. I understand it more because we took the text apart and looked at it more carefully. Learning to understand the text will help us out because it will let us know where and when to put in each line at. Learning to understand the text can help you to apply it to real life, so you can be able to be interactive with the text.

So far for our fourth Quarter Benchmark my group and I have found within the book, what we think is useful information. We are almost finished looking for scenes for our play. We are working well together and we have gotten a lot done. My group has appointed Julia as team captain and me as the coordinator. Everything is going well but sometimes we are not able to find lines within the scenes that go along with our theme, or if we do find something that matches our theme, our main characters are not saying the lines. We have not yet talked about how we were going to put the lines together but I think we are going to do that this week. By us, understanding the text and what is going on it will help us know which lines matches or theme

Child Abuse Reflection # 4

Today I have fount my change agent. She is a representative at DHS and her name is Renee. Getting a change agent was not easy; it took me a long time to finally contact one. We have not set up a date or time to have our meeting but I think we will get to that next time we talk. This project is challenging, this is one I can't just ease on by, I actually struggled (thanks to Mr. Case). Next week hopefully I will have a time and date set. The e-pitch is done, and uploaded. I think I could have done better on it but I did not want it to be late with me going to England so I did the best I could at that moment. My action plan outline is done and turned in on time. Overall I’m caught up to pretty much everything.

Child Abuse # 7

According to News 10 Now, a man is on trial for child endangerment of a three-month year old that was in his daycare . The young boy suffers from severe brain damage. If the man is fount guilty he will have to serve 1 year in prison. I kind of disagree with the time he would have to serve. I think he should serve more time if fount guilty. He should serve more time because whats been done is wrong. This little boy would have something wrong with him for the rest of his life.

(This is a picture from the web site)

Child Abuse # 6

Many sites have said there are four types of child abuse. The most recent one was chilabuse.com, it said that the four types are sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect. This site tells us how we can identify child abusers and how we can identify children who could have possibly been abused. When reading this web site I found symptoms in there that can relate to me, but the things that relate to me have nothing to do with child abuse in any form. So I asked myself were their list based on common things they found in each case? Childabuse.com says some signs of physical abuse are " Anxiety, aggressive behavior, paranoid ideation, depression..." the list goes on. They say the people that are most resonsible for physical abuse are single parents that feel like they have no one to turn to or single parents that did not plan their pregnancy. Also they said that the abusers are the ones with no criminal record, basically people you would never suspect. The site said a child is neglected when it is not given it's basic needs. Childabuse.com says a child is emotionally abuse when a child is verbally attacked and the intension aimed to affect the child emotionally, emotional abuse aslo involves sexual abuse. Sexual abuse is when it includes any type of penetration being both vaginal and/or anal. Sexual abuse is also oral or touching of inappropiate places and showing pornography to a child. This site really started to make me think when it said sexual abuse mostly comes from close family members that the child trust or a close family friend. It made me think because as I said before if you can't trust your family then, who can you trust?

Child Abuse # 5

You want to read something that will blow you mind? I thought by picking the topic "child abuse" I’ll get an easy break, but little did I know I was in for a rude awaking. I thought that Japan’s child abuse statistics were crazy, they are nothing compared to the child abuse statistics right here at home. According to The Philadelphia Inquire website in 1/27/2008, there were 1,189 Child abuse cases reported in 2003, 1,304 Child abuse cases reported in 2004, and 1,168 Child abuse cases reported in 2005 . The Philadelphia inquire also said that the total child abuse deaths in 2003 were 11, the total child abuse deaths in 2004 were 15, and the total child abuse deaths in 2005 were 17. When reading these numbers I get upset, but nothing is compared to seeing pictures of it and knowing people who have went through it and probably are still going through it. I can understand why some people don't report child abuse to the agencies. Some might not report it because the victim is their best friend told them not to because they don't want for anything to get worse. But what they fail to realize is that either way it could possibly be their fault. It could possibly be their fault because if they do nothing then if their friend dies it is sort of their fault because they could have saved their life by opening their mouth. Then again it could be their fault because they could tell and what ever agency and instead of them doing something they just make it worse and their friend get hurt, it's still their fault. But it is best to tell because it is helping and possibly making a difference.

Child Abuse Reflection # 2

In my readings I have read about the most horrible things you can ever read. I was so disgusted with what I was reading that I could not believe they were actually talking about human beings. I read this one story, a lady pulled her four kids out of school there ages were 17, 11, 6, and 5 and not too long after all of them were found dead in the house with her. The article said that they been dead for over 15 days. This and many more things have been frustrating me because in most of these child abuse cases it is mostly the immediate family doing the harm to them. I get pissed because if someone can't trust their family that they live with, then who can they trust. That is probably the main reason why most kids have bad behavior, becoming crazy, and everything like that. But any way my research is still going well. So far I have only received one response from the people I contacted and I’m not sure on what I am going to say for the e-pitch.

Child Abuse # 3

In East Africa over 221 cases of sexual abuse have been reported from November of 2007 to January 2008, says an IPP Media report . In New York State 7 year old Nixzmary Brown died from being abused by he step father. Nixzmary was extremely malnourished she only weighed 36 pounds. She would come to school with bruises all over the outside of her body as well as the inside .

"The number of child abuse cases investigated by police hit 300 in 2007, a record high since the National Police Agency began compiling the data in 1999, according to the NPA." says The Yomiuri Shimbun . They have also said that out of the 300 cases 211 were physical abuse, 69 involved sexual abuse and 20 were neglect. Personally I feel that is quite disturbing. The site also says that most of the people that were doing the abuse were mothers, fathers, adoptive fathers, and stepfathers. Something else that moved me deeply is when they said out of the 300 cases 10 of them were babies found dead due to being abandoned right after they were born.

Child Abuse Reflection #1

My research is going good so far. I have found a lot of cases and information on child abuse. The only thing I have not found yet is the statistics for it. I hope to find numbers that can back my information up; I think that is what can help my elevator pitch be a little stronger.  I would also like to actually talk to someone who actually went through child abuse and I want to get their thoughts on the topic and if they think enough is being done. Another thing I would want to know from them is what do they think should or could be done to prevent it. I have a lot of work cut out for me. Sometime this week I hope to find a change agent, and start to put together my elevator pitch.

Child Abuse # 2

Are all child abuse cases true? Are all rape cases true? According to South Yorkshire Times, this most recent one was not. On Monday 73-year-old Ronald Leonard was fount not guilty of rape and child abuse. In-between the years of 2005 and 2006,two girls by the age of 12 and 16 claimed that he had raped them . Leonard is a pensioner that looked out for the neighborhood, and gave the youngest girl money for doing jobs around his house. To prevent anything like this from happening he always informed the young girls parents when she came over and he always kept his front door open. Leonard said "he never closed his doors apart from when he went to bed at night,” the little girl started to call him and come over more often. One day she brought her family member over and they started to come over more frequently. For each time they came over Leonard would inform the older girls parents. The older girl soon after started to confide in him and tell him everything " He said he was aware that she was emotionally clingy and immature for her age, with 'the mind of a 14 year-old.' He said both girls had intimated to him they had been involved sexually with boys." The older girl came over one day and was complaining of her vaginal area hurting, so he rubber ointment on it. She then bugged him to engage in sexual intercourse, for a while he said no then he gave in but was not able to have “full intercourse.” The next time both girls came over, the little girl and the older girl told him they would give him sex if he gave them money. He said no to the sex but later ended up giving them the money for cleaning his DVD collection. He says he did nothing wrong because the sex with the older girl was consensual. Also he says he should have known something was up and that he never thought something like would happen to him.

Child Abuse #1

Over the last couple of days I have read about various cases of child abuse, but there are only few that really caught my attention. According to Independent Web Edition, a 34-year-old foster mother will be going to jail for 30 years because an 18-month-old boy died under her care. But he not only died just in her care he died because of severe head injuries. “’I have done the most unimaginable thing to an innocent child who trusted me,’ she wrote in the statement." She believes that she could have killed the little boy by pulling off his pajamas too hard causing him to fall back and hit his head on the flooring. But two doctors said that the type of head injuries the little boy had was so severe that it would have taken a car crash or being violently shaken to make them. This really makes me think, if there is a possibility of something like this happening to foster children, how much worse is it for the kids if they were the parents’ biological children.
