The Classroom of many discussions
Submitted by Ryan Boyer on Thu, 05/15/2008 - 13:59.
In English I feel really engaged in class assignments because it isn't just writing about the books we read. We actually have deep discussions about the literature we are assigned to read. In english class I really enjoy participating because we get to express our views and different opinions on books like The Odyssey or Hamlet. In this class I have learned differently than in any other english class I took in school. This classroom is different because in here we are learning to look deeper into things instead of staying on the surface in terms of reading, writing, or discussions. We also get to take roles as the teacher from time to time by leading our own class because we have been taught to be the leaders of successful learning. We also don't get lectured in this class we are actually active in the class with many hands on activities. This classroom gives us many key learning and work tools to be successful.
Q2 Bio-chem Benchmark
Submitted by Ryan Boyer on Fri, 04/04/2008 - 17:31.
This is my Q2 benchmark. For this project I did a lab on onion cells, cheek cells, hair cells, and grid paper. I completed this by observing these cells in a microscope under different magnifications. If I could do this project over I would research osmosis and the functions of cells more in depth.

This assignment is my Q3 benchmark for english, which was a vignette of a descriptive memory I had once in my life.To complete this writing piece I chose one memory from a variety of memories and I did a series of writing trying to make this a rich vignette using literary language.

This project is the Q3 algebra benchmark. The aim of this benchmark was for us to choose to different topics that we thought had linear relationships. For this project I graphed my relationships, solved for the equations, and answered numerous questions for my research. If I could do this project over I would choose my line of best fit more carefully.

This benchmark is my quarter 3 spanish project, which is a brochure describing 8 places that are close to my house or places that I like. We also had to write directions to all of these places.

This assignment is a Egg Lab write-up, which was a 9th grade project for the 3rd quarter in our school year. For this assignment our classroom was assigned partners to work on an egg-lab. After we collected our data we we individually assigned to create lab write-ups which are a collection of discussions based on our research. If I had a chance to do this project over again I would change the way our chemical formula chart.
Ryan's Q3 History Benchmark
Submitted by Ryan Boyer on Fri, 03/28/2008 - 14:21.
This assignment is a history reflection of what my 9th grade class learned in African American history for the 3rd quarter of our semester. I completed this assignment by reflecting on our class project project, which was a mock-trial and newspaper based on colonial/ state laws that had to do with slavery or segregation. I decided to use the Jena 6 case, the Dred Scott Desicion, Scotts-Boro boys, and Barack Obama for examples of my research. If I had a chance to do this project over again I would add more research the racial slurs against Barack Obama more in depth.
