Blog 1.
So far, my group has assigned each other with which scenes they are going to do. And we have talked about how we are going to perform our play. I would say the hard thing about working in a group is having to depend on other people. For example, if someone doesn’t do their part, your all looking at a not so great grade. And like that saying “if you want something done, do it yourself” that doesn’t apply when your working in groups. That’s what I hate. But we did get our scenes done real fast. Editing the text wasn’t too hard. I thought that if I just took the text straight from the text, and then edit it later, that would be easier. I soon found out that I shouldn’t have done that. Now I have to go back and edit everything. I’m becoming used to the language more. It doesn’t look like complete and total gibberish anymore. I actually didn’t realize how much I enjoyed this book until this project. It’s an interesting story. And the ending just… sucks. There’s not much more you can say about that. Everyone just dies.

Part of this project was really hard for me because I realized as soon as I started to work on my topic, septa beat me to it! Ha. They already were "Going Green", and trying to reduce the amount of pollution they were causing.
I had a really hard time finding information on what other people thought about this problem. But once I got somewhere, people were very open about how they felt about what septa was doing. Some people thought it was completly ridiculous that others were making a big deal about this air pollution.
But I was really good at finding out what could be done. I didn't need to do much reserch about hybrid buses. I already know a lot aboutthem, and they are really good for the environment. I think this is an excellent alternative to the other septa buses.

Septa is going to be releasing 100 buses a year untill the year 2011. "Public transit is already the greenest option available for daily riders traveling to work, school and recreational activities as our services provide them with the opportunity to reach their destinations and leave their cars at home."
They make themselves sound pretty good. Maybe in the future when we start seeing these differnet buses we'll see changes in other things.
When i first started reading about this. I didn't know what path it was going to take. I thought I was going to get no where fast. And in a way, I guess I did. But it was more of just a learning expierience for me. Most big companies don't do anything to change the way their business works to make the environment better. They don't want to make things dificult for themselves. But I'm surprised septa is actually doing something about this.

The more I read about the problems with septa buses the more I want to change the way the system is. “…now taking public transportation is even more environmentally friendly.” Only a few buses out there are safer for the environment. A lot of people rely on taking public transportation and they aren’t going to boycott it and risk their job/school. That’s one of the reasons nothings getting done about this faster.
Maybe if people looked more at what all the air pollution is doing to the world slowly rather than what time they have to be at work. I understand that there are a lot of things that are more important than this. But I think this would solve a lot.
I’ve been reading a lot more about this issue with Septa buses. And i think septa might be doing good now. They are getting more Hybrid buses and soon all of the buses will be hybrid and the air pollution won’t be as big of a problem.
They must have realized that a lot of excess pollution was caused because of them. I'm glad they decided to do something about all this.
Now let's hope it doesn't take too long...

Septa has purchased 100 buses to come out every year starting from 2008, until 2011. In my last post I stated that the buses that are still on the road today are going to be staying on the road. But that was incorrect. If a septa bus has been out there on the road for more than 12 years, it is going to be pulled off the road. The people at septa have not made it clear what they are going to do with the buses that have reached their twelve-year limit.
This might have an affect on the world years from now. But I think something needs to be done about this sooner. Some people think that all of this is ridiculous and the government should just put subways in some areas where there are a lot of septa. It would take a while, and it would be expensive, but it would pay for itself in the long run.
This weekend my friend and me were driving around in the city and we pulled up next to a septa bus. I thought it was pretty ironic since I was doing my English project on it. I looked up and all I saw was black smoke pouring out of the exhaust pipe. It disgusted me. I don’t understand why there hasn’t been anything done about this already. I mean, yeah, they are putting out new buses. I don’t think that’s going to stop putting out as much pollution.
On the April 2008 transpasses it says "one of the most greenest public transit systems in the U.S." I don’t know how true that is. But it seems like they are just trying to brag about how they are doing, but it’s really not that much better.

I’ve been doing more research on this whole Septa “going green” thing. Apparently they have a handle on what they are doing. On Septa’s website it says this, “At its regular monthly meeting the SEPTA Board today approved the purchase of 400 new diesel-electric hybrid 40-foot low floor buses from New Flyer of America, Inc. for a contract price of $212,387,236.00.”
That number is way too big. I can’t even imagine how much money that is. And who do you think is paying for all these new septa buses? I think these hybrid buses are going to make a difference but they aren’t taking all the other buses off of the street. All the buses that played a part in the air pollution are still going to be out there.
On the website they also talk about how Septa is already “green” because so many less people are driving. And don’t get me wrong, I completely agree with this. But why stop there? Why not work a little harder and come up with a way to make septa better than it is?
Blog 1 Septa Air Pollution!

All through middle school I learned about how bad littering was and how the cleanliness of the world was in my hands. We were taught that it all started with what we did. But if you take a walk through the city today, you will see tons of trash. What does this mean? Were all these people that are littering absent in school the day they taught the other kids that littering was destroying the earth? Who knows.
But I’m not trying to get people to stop littering. I think there are enough people in the world that have a handle on that and are trying to change it. I think more people should be looking at the fact that SEPTA buses give off so much air pollution. Some people may think this is considered a small problem. But aren’t big problems solved with fixing the small problems first? I believe so.
Some people actually think they are helping the air pollution by taking public transportation to work instead of driving to work everyday. But are they really making a difference? I’m not going to be the judge of that.
Recently someone told me that septa is “going green”. But in what sense are they “going green?” I’ve been researching this whole “going green” thing. It seems like a good idea.
