Library Closing?

To whom this may concern,
I think closing the libraries in more urban areas is something you should think twice about.
These are the areas that need it the most. The library serves as an after school program, resource for school work, and just a place children can feel safe. If you close the libraries that leaves them with no place to go and now the risk of them getting hurt, being influenced by their environment are much greater than if the libraries were to stay open.

A time Where Sports were felt extremely important to me.

Now usually, I don't watch baseball but these past few games I've been really keeping a close eye on. Just knowing that the Phillies had a chance of becoming world champions again after 28 years meant so much to me. Last nights game was one of the best moments in baseball. They really deserved it and worked hard to get where they are today. This wasn't our first championship, so I know it won't be our last.

Just like every other weekend, my best friend and I sat in the living room talking, more so debating than actually conversing. Since we are the opposite sex we always seemed to have completely different opinions on just about every thing. What ever I said he just had to disagree with it. If I said yes, he said no. If I went left, he’d go right. We barely agreed on anything but that sort of made us better friends. On this particular night, we some how got on the subject, of what characteristics attracted us to the people we chose to date.
“So what do you find the most attractive about a girl?” I asked him. I automatically thought he would say something referring to her looks or physical appearance. To my surprise, he said something that I never really thought about. “Beyond beauty… just the way she talks.” He answered. I flashed a half smile, not believing a word he was saying. “But the first time we met you said you liked the fact that I was confident about myself, and really independent.” I argued. He shook his head in agreement. “ Yeah I said that but did you ever notice I said that before I even got to know you. I learned all of that about you from just hearing you talk. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they talk.” He answered.
I shook my head no, like a disagreed with him only because I didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of being right but honestly he had just bought up something that was so true. The way you speak is one of the main characteristics that say something about who you are. At that moment I asked myself, how does language intersect with identity? Prior to that conversation, I’d never realized how much language plays a major role in your identity. Now that I’ve thought about it, a lot of the time you are being judged by the way you talk. In a way a way people can sort of define you, or put you in a certain category, without any knowledge to the kind of person you are, when they hear the way you speak.
For example, when I was doing interviews for the incoming freshman at SLA. A boy came into the room. He wasn’t really dressed for interview, unlike the others before him, and he didn’t have a quality project so I didn’t think he would have a good interview. The boy introduced himself, and began talking with no problem. He gave eye contact, he used pretty much Standard English, and overall he spoke highly. Every question I asked him, he had an answer for, everything he said was backed up with a good explanation. I knew I had misjudged him completely.
I didn’t know anything about him before I interviewed him but after the interview I was able to evaluate him on just conversation. This also shows how language intersects with identity. Sure language intersects with identity but there a lot more to identity than just the way you talk. There’s appearance, your attitude, personality, your goals and a whole lot of other characteristics that make up your identity.
