Teenage Sex & STD's - Post 5

So the brochures that my change agent sent me were really helpful. Over spring break, a friend of mine got an abortion. I asked her how much it cost, and she said it was only 19 dollars! When I heard that I was surprised, I thought they all cost 300 dollars. As I thought some more about it, I realized why abortion was a lot of peoples first choice, it is a painless process that costs less than a pair of jeans!
I recently read that one in four girls tested have a sexually transmitted disease. The article also says, "Among the teenage girls tested, the study found that 18 percent were infected with human papilloma virus (HPV) - the virus that causes cervical cancer and genital warts - 4 percent were infected with chlamydia, 2.5 percent had trichomoniasis, and 2 percent were infected with herpes simplex virus." the sad part about it is, almost all of these teenagers didn't even know that they were infected. They continue to have unprotected sex and unintentionally spread it to others.
There are limited STDs that are reported back to the Philadelphia Department of Health so it is unsure how many teens have different STDs. The free clinics mostly test for chlamydia and gonorrhea.
