The Q1 science Benchmarks was based around the History of Science. We were separated into groups of 2 based on the scientist we were interested in. There was three part of the Q1 science benchmark. We had to research that scientist and fill out a form called SLAward. Then we had to make a 3 min presentation explaining why our scientist deserves this award. Then we had to make a profile of our scientist to post up on the wall.

     For our Quarter 1 Benchmark in science we had to research a scientist. Not just plain research like age, name, death date, and invention. Our research was based on questions. One question was, "How did your scientist's work affect future scientists?" So it wasn't simple research it was a connection to modern scientists.

     For my project I worked in a group. The group was made of Natikwa Goodwin and I. We had to research Galileo Galilei.He invented the telescope, but more so made improvements on it. For our project we made a fact sheet, with simple facts, a slide show of his accomplishments, and a skit for bonus points. People seemed to enjoy our presentation.

a. This assignment is the process of decomposing the outer shell of a typical chicken egg in order to observe the cell membrane. Through out this lab, I was able to experiment with different variables that caused different effects on the egg.

b. I completed this lab with the help of my partner Roberto Albano. We were given the proper materials from our school lab and followed the directions of our teacher. The lab process consisted of letting an egg sit in a variable liquid for several days. While the egg sat, we took observations in order to complete the assignment.

c. If I were to do this assignment again, I would observe the egg more often then I did during the lab. That way, It would be easier to see the change in the egg through out the lab.

For this benchmark, we studied the effects of sugar, water, and oxygen on yeast respiration. My partner Beth Knibbe and I did two labs- the first focusing on sugar, the second on the specific ratios of sugar, water, and oxygen necessary to stimulate respiration.

We picked a person from history and wrote about how he helped backed then and how their invention changed the way we lived now. We also had to write how their invention was improved over time and who brougth their invention from a simple machine to a high tech machine.
