Biochemistry

Samarium Art Project

• explain the project
Our project originally came from our Biochemistry projectwhere we had to pick an element from the periodic table and create a keynote onit answering the questions we where given. With the element we were given ourart teacher found this website where there was this artistic periodic tablewhere artists had their on vision on how the element should look.
• tell about your element - some you fun facts and someresearched facts

Chromium: Print Making Project

In our Biochemistry class we were studying the Periodic Table in its entirety. Mr. Best, our Biochemistry teacher showed us that some other people made some element prints for the periodic table and we thought it would be cool if we did the same. We interpreted our element based on our research of our element we completed individually. The element I chose was Chromium.

In my biochemistry class we had to research an element and draw a picture based on how it was used. At first I thought we were going to draw a picture and be done with it, so I chose the 85th element, Astatine. I just so happened to choose the most useless element on the periodic table that happens to be man made. It was radioactive so i did have a slight idea where I was going to go with it. While in thought about our first sketches I was told we were going to print them, and at first I had no idea how we would pull that off. To print something we would take a square of linoleum, a grey soft, clay-like texture that was easy to carve, that would be 6 centimeters on each side. We then carve out our picture in the linoleum the way we thought it would print best.

BioChemistry Benchmark

For our Biochemistry benchmark our project was to create a campaign on why that scientist that we chose should win the SLAward( a prize that the 9th grade science teachers came up with). We were to write about their past, experiments, education, home life, etc. It was a three-man project and everything would end with a quick three-minute presentation of what we learned about our scientist and why they deserved to win the SLAward.

Biochemistry Benchmark Quarter One

For the benchmark we had a choose a scientist from a list separated into time periods and choose a partner. After selecting a scientist we had to research them in detail and figure out what they were most famous for and their contributions to society. Once doing this we presented and had to figure out who should win the "Slaward". The "Slaward" was the award given to the scientist deemed the most helpful to our modern lifestyle.

For the project I created a fact sheet showing a picture of Sir Hans Adolf Krebs and three little known but important facts about his research. Another thing I did in this project was that I made a slideshow as a visual aid for my prtner and I when presenting.

BioChemistry Benchmark

History of Science
For our biochemistry benchmark, we had to pair up with another classmate and research a famous scientist, make a factsheet about him and present some key information about him to the class. In the factsheet could be anything about the scientist, but mainly had to do with his outside (of science) life and contributions to science, such as whose footsteps he may have followed in and who followed in his, and what he did during his life.

Biochemistry Benchmark Quarter 1

Our project had to be about the science since the 17th century. We worked with a parter that is in our stream. We had to do research about the specific scient that you and your partner chose. We had to make a presentation that was persuasive to Mr. Best and the rest of the class for them to vote for our scientist for the SLAward. The SLAward is like a recognition to all the things that a scientist did for our world.

My scientist was Charles Darwin. We were told to research Charles Darwin and say why he deserves and is worth of the SLAward.

If I had to do this project over again I would follow the planed schedule in order to have all parts fully completed and submitted on time

Science Benchmark

In Mr. Sheirf gave orange stream our first benchmark in our ninth grade year.  The assignment was to write a paper (no more than 5 pages) on scientist that we thought should win an award for their accomplishments.  I was partnered with another other student that would help with the presentation and writing the paper.

The following is my biochemistry benchmark.

Biochemistry Benchmark

For my Biochemistry Benchmark, my class was split into groups of two with the one exception of my group, which had three. We were to choose a scientist to write about from a long list my teacher provided from us. We were to find out about our scientist and do a written application, a fact sheet, and a brief oral presentation that couldn’t be any longer than three minutes, and then fill in an application (made by our teacher) to apply our scientist for winning the SLAward (an award).

Biochemistry Benchmark- First Quarter

For our Biochemistry benchmark, we had to pick a partner. Once we were split into partners, we were told that we were going to have to choose a specific scientists from the 1700's. We had to research information about this scientist and make a slideshow about him or her. the slideshow had to be shorter than 3 mins. We also had to create a SLAward sheet. This is a paper/application to try to convince people in why your pecific scientist should win this award.
