Health care
Submitted by jlisterud on Tue, 11/24/2009 - 16:42.
Until today, I felt like Obama's health care reform might fail. It seems that the Senate is acting ill of the health care, and there were people wo were demonizing it. One clod in congress said that the success of the health care reform is a worse thing that can happen to America than a terrorist threat. I think she's a terrorist. In fact, opposing Obama's health care reform is an act of terrorism. When I learned that there was a boost in Democratic support, I felt relieved. If Mrs. Martin hadn't shown me the movie "Sicko" last year, I wouldn't have been so concerned about Obama's health care reform. But now that the film exposed me to the dark secrets within American Health Care, I desperately want Obama's health care reform to succeed.
Seventh Bill log.

Bill H.R.104 still hasn't had a recent action since it was reffered to the Subcommittee of Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties back in June. I have made an attempt to vote in favor of this bill, but I needed an account on the website in order to do so. I attempted to fill out an application for it, but there were errors, and I gave up.
Progress on bill H.R.29 didn't fare much better. Just like in a majority of my previous bill logs, nothing happened to it since March 9th, when it was introduced to the Subcommittee on Healthy Families and Communities, as well as the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education. When the bill pushes forward, then I would have something new to say about it.
As for bill no. 080832, it has been way to hard to track its previous action, so I decided to change my Bill no.3. I changed it to H.R.3962, Obama's "Affordable Health Care For America Act." Eight days ago, on November 16th, it was read in the Senate again. It was put on the Senate Legislative Calendar No. 210.

H.R.2931 This bill is sill in the same sub-committee, it's fair to assume it's lost there. Pennsylvania State House Bill 300 The bill has been re-committed to the committee on Appropriations. City Bill 090582 This bill had it's second reading on 11/5/09 and it was passed! Yay for general commercial along Market Street! I small step for philadelphia, a giant leap for man-kind.
Election Day 2009 For Narayan El
Submitted by nel on Wed, 11/04/2009 - 02:56.
Today when I went out to the polling facility, I quickly noticed that the election scenario this year was hardly like that of last year at all. There were no lines, and not a huge amount of people streaming in and out of the facility. The only similarity between this and last year's election that I saw was that the same people were overseeing/facilitating the voting process, such as Ms. Terry. Connor. From what I understand, today's election scene is much less active than last year's because citizens are voting for individuals for positions that aren't as high as president and vice president. For example, here in Pennsylvania, the election was for Supreme Court judges/justices, the retention of already serving Supreme Court officials, and also for election judges, which Terry was one of the candidates for. So, I would say that because less authoritative figures are being elected today, everyone isn't't as interested in the election, making the voter turnout lower and causing the facilities to receive less activity. In New Jersey, however, the new governor is being elected, so I would assume the activity is of a higher level over there. For Pennsylvania, it's simply a drop in the frequency of business regarding this year's election due to decreased priority in people's eyes.

I have had trouble uploading the picture, and I'm hoping that in class, you might be able to help me out with this.
This election scene had only a few people at the ballots this year, while last year, there were long lines of people waiting to vote. A major reason for this was not only because last year was a presidential election, but it was also because Barack Obama was a candidate for president. This had spawned a lot of controversy between Democrats and Republicans, and each party was desperate to make sure that they get the President they desired. This year, this was an election between congressmen, making this far less exciting, and nowhere near historical.

On the front lawn of the apartment buildings they had a bunch of the candidates signs. As you walked up the path there were more signs, however they were all the same. No sign was really bigger then the other or trying to promote someone more then the other. There really wasnt anyone at the voting place. It was in the middle of the afternoon when I went with my mom. There were like 3 people there so it was calm. Back in 2008 the polls were all swamped. People were standing outside the door waiting to put in their vote. This voting process was a lot more calm. The reasons for it being a lot calmer was people were voting for judges mostly. This kind of campaign is obviously not as big as the one for president.

State, H.B. 249= No further action has taken place so far.
City Council, Bill 090569= This bill was scheduled to be part of the focus for the meeting we went to on 10/22/09, but the motion was passd to suspend its decision until next meeting, along with several of the other bills that were supposed to get decided on this week.
Sixth Bill log
Submitted by jlisterud on Sat, 10/24/2009 - 14:44.
Sadly, once again, no new progress on each bill. Nothing new has happened to Bill H.R.104 since its June referring to the he Subcommittee of Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties (thanks, Copy and Paste) so it may be possible that it may have gotten lost within the House of Representatives and/or the Senate. This may be adding to the tension towards those who are actually worried about the bill either passing or failing, but towards me, it is getting repetitive and starting to function like a broken record.
On March 9th, bill H.R.29 was introduced to the Subcommittee on Healthy Families and Communities, as well as the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education. But sadly, nothing special happened to it ever since. This may receive the same comments on Bill H.R.104. Getting lost in either the Senate or the House of Representatives, tension building among those who care, and growing repetition.
Bill no. 080832 is hard to track down, as it was presented as a pdf file, and that doesn't tell us the current status of a bill. But all I can predict is that nothing special has happened with it since the Committe on the Environment. But, I can't remember the date in which that happened. But since the other two bills have made practically no progress, I don't think that this one did either.

National Bill, H.R. 2078: No ore action has been taken regarding this bill since June 4, 2009.
State Bill, H.B. 349: Nothing has happened sinc eit was recommitted to Appropriations on April 23, 2009.
City Council Bill, 090569: Nothing else happened with this one since last week, and the next meeting for it is still scheduled for 10/22/09.
If I could have just one of my bills pass, I would want it to be the national one, H.R. 2078. Since it establishes a national comission for studying employment and economic insecurity, it would allow us to better understand our problems regarding finance and available occupations for our citizens. If we understand our problems well through this comission that can possibly be established, then more legislation to assist America and bring us out of a recession faster will come as a result.
Fourth bill log

I'm afraid that the status of my bills is the same as it was the last time I checked. There's not much else to say. The sooner something new happens to at least one of my selected bills, the better. I perfectly established that I haven't exactly been happy about the slow progress on the bills, and how the slow progress would hurt my elaboration in my explanations within my bill logs. What this sadly means is that my performances have been tounced.
Third bill log
Submitted by jlisterud on Sun, 10/04/2009 - 15:17.
So far, unfortunately, nothing new has happened with the bills since I last checked on them. Bill H.R.104 was introduced to the Committee on June 26th, Bill H.R.29 was introduced to the Subcommittees on Healthy Families, Communities, Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, and bill no. 080832 was reffered to by the Committee on the Environment. But sadly, all three bills have been stuck in limbo ever since then. They are still stuck at their positions from last time, and they seem to be progressing through our government at a snail's pace. Practically, all bills do that. I know Rome wasn't built in a day, but if nothing new happens with our bills by the time we have to check on them again, this may be repetitive.

House Bill= H.R. 2078: Nothing else has happened with this bill yet. It may still see action, but at this point it's probably not very likely.
Senate Bill, H.B. 349: The last action was still when it got re-committed to Appropriations on April 23, 2009. No further action has been taken with this bill either.
City Council Bill, 090569: Nothing happened since this bill was referred to the Committee on Streets and Services on September 1, 209. As far as I know, its next meeting scheduled for October 12, 2009 is still going to happen.

I think that back on monday on September first, all three bills were only introduced. That's just one possibility. But there's also the theory that the status for each bill back then was the same as the status for each bill now.

The status of my bills.
Submitted by jlisterud on Sat, 09/26/2009 - 12:32.
My first bill, H. R. 104, has been introduced to the Committe, who has now reffered to it, all happening on June 26th. This will anticipate those who really want President Bush's philosophies and tactics put under investigation. Personally, I support that bill, because President Bush abused the power that he had when he was president of the United States. I know he was desperate to stop Al Quaeda, but he needed to do so in the right way, instead of doing what he did.
The second bill, H. R. 29, has been introduced on March 9th, and it was made to improve the lives of the poor and homeless. I feel sorry for the poor and homeless, so I support this bill too. I am tired of their suffering. I want their lives to be improved. I don't like how people are so mean to them and wouldn't help them. This bill has to be passed.
bill no. 080832 was reffered to by the Committe on the Environment, and was to help the environment. I also want this bill to be passed.

H.R. 3126 Consumer Finance Act 2009
What basically my ill is the that they want to form a committee that would help protect the financial rights of consumers. The committee would regulate price so that in this economic downturn business could not make necessary items to over priced for the average family. My bill has not had any action since the date of July 7th so it is still at a stand still. It wasn't passed or declined by the house.

My Obama speach reaction!
Submitted by dwallace on Thu, 01/15/2009 - 20:08.
When Obama was elected, it wasd a very emotional time for my family. My dad gowing up in the time of the time when there was plenty of racism, with the civil rights movement and such. My dad grew up during the time when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Malcolm X were both shot. He never thought he would see this day, and was proud of the African American race for this great accomplishment. Even though, Obama isn't fully black, this is something that will bring us one step closer. During the Obama speech, my family and I noticed that Obama wasn't cocky, or anything, and didn't hold grudges against the Republicans. He says that Democrats and Republicans, need to work through this crisis, and this is something I strongly agree with.
