BioChem Benchmark

This year in biochemistry we studied many topics and discussed a range of scientific matters. During the end of the quarter we were assigned a benchmark. In this assessment, we were randomly assigned groups by our choice in a scientist. For the project, we had to create a scientist profile, a slide show, and conduct research about the scientist's life.
I worked in a group of two, and I picked Alfred Wegner to study. My partner and I work diligently and well together to create and collaborate a spectacular project. At the end of our benchmark, we tallied up votes from fellow classmates about the best presentation. At first we were winning, and then three groups tied. It was a close race, but unfortunately we did not win.
English Benchmark

During the first quarter in English, as a class we read a heroic and inspiring story, The Freedom Writers Diary. As a class we really made deep connections to this fantastic book. At the end of the first quarter we were assigned a benchmark. All throughout the United States many were working on banning The Freedom Writers Diary. However, we as a class thought this was wrong. Our benchmark was to pick a specific diary entry and explain why it should not be banned.
In my particular benchmark, I chose a diary entry that I was able to find myself in that certain situation. For this particular project I picked a specific entry that displayed how diversity plays a role in many people's lives today, whether by: race, ethnicity, religion, or sex.

ENGINEERING-
For engineering, we had to make a wind mill out of office supplies, and it had to blow from any direction the wind comes from.
For my project, I used a empty red bull can, a pen, and paper.
I took out the inner pice of the pen, and put it through the paper fan that I put holes in, then I placed the pen back together. And i made sure the paper fan can hold in air for it to turn in any direction. The last thing i did, is that i added water in the redbull can so i cn be stable, so any amount of wind can hold it.

ALGEBRA-
For our algebra benchmark, we had to create a house with three floors (as a group) and each person has to design a room and measure the room and the objects the objects in the room.
I don’t have a file for the algebra or a picture. But I designed a music room and I had object like drums, piano, guitars, and speakers.

SCIENCE-
For our science benchmark, we had to choose a scientist or an inventor and research some information about him and make a power point, and we had to persuade our fellow classmates to pick him for the slaward that we made up.

ENGLISH-
we are currently reading Homers The Odyssey in our English class. For the benchmark, we had to write a five-paragraph persuasive essay, using what we have learned and read in the book. The paragraph needed quotes from the book.
Spanish 1 Benchmark - First Quarter

In Spanish 1 in the first quarter, Don Marcos told us to each create a travel guide. The travel guide was to help and educate a tourist visiting a foreign Spanish country. The brochure was to not contain anything from the English language, but only composed only of Spanish. So how was the tourist going to be able to learn anything from a brochure that only had Español and the traveler spoke anything BUT Spanish? Well, by visual aids, of course! For example, in my brochure, I have the phrase: Buenos Diez. Next to that phrase, an arrow coming from Buenos Diez would point to a depiction of dawn. Would you know what that phrase meant?

Our History Benchmark was to plan/host a party for King Tut himself. We had to think as if we were in his time, we had to plan a Summer Solstice. We had to make King Tut feel welcome and accommodate to his needs. We had to make sure everything was just perfect. The Food had to e perfect, security, lodging and all.
For my project I worked in a group of 4. The group contained myself, Natikwa G., Maxine H., Anwar A.-Q. For my portion of the project I had the role of organizer and caterer. I made sure all the menus had food that were related to King Tut's home. I organized parts of the Parade and Dinner's. Trying to make King Tut not feel home-sick was a test but I made it work.
