The Everyday Life of an Arab by Zayd Alsardary

15:47 minutes (14.46 MB)

As we know, discrimination and racism goes on alot and we have seen it before, wheter between African Americans to Jewish people. People get discriminated. The thing is how does that discrimination play a role in an Arab's everyday life? Are they treated the way they want to be treated? For me I am an American Arab, my parents were born and raised in Iraq and I was born here in America. I have experienced large amounts of discrimination; dealing with my race and my ethnicity. In this podcast, you will learn about the experiences of being Arab and how intense discrimintation can go.

!Pursuing Dreams: Overcoming Discrimination by !William Felinski

"My potential is more than can be expressed within the bounds of my race or ethnic identity." - Arthur Ashe

Being dealt a lower hand demands for a higher work ethic to receive recognition, but once accomplished serves as the one thing that once could only be dreamed. This was the case for Kein Wilson & Mr. Allen. Listen in for the chance to follow the footsteps of a man, starting as a youth, who worked his way to a profession that represents everything he ever wanted -- sharing the sport of tennis to the underserved in Philadelphia, kids that were like him. In addition, this podcast continues to explore into the earlier development of the integration of "blacks" in tennis and the discrimination against them partaking in the sport; this is supported with commentary during an interview with Mr. Allen.

From Vietnam - by Daniel Quach

13:45 minutes (6.3 MB)

This is a story about my father, who escaped from Vietnam in order to avoid being drafted into the Vietnam War, which had started in his adolescent life, and, being the oldest sibling in the family, had to act as a parent. He had lived in Saigon, or present day Ho Chi Minh City. Basically, during the war, South Vietnam had allied with the U.S. to defeat North Vietnam. You'll hear about his escape, his life in America, and if he ever regretted his actions.

Don't Kill The Baby Seals!

Killing animals is wrong and has always been wrong in my opinion. But there are people in certain countries, including Canada that actually kill them for fun!

There is a "sport" known as the Atlantic Seal hunt that takes place between March and May on the gulf of the Atlantic Ocean in Canada. Specifically, it occurs around the Magdalen Islands and Prince Edward Island near Newfoundland.

Hunters literally go out with clubs and murder baby seals.

Harmless, innocent, 25-day old babies.

They were once even allowed to kill the babies that were merely 2 weeks old, known as "white coats." But that was banned because of the said cruelty.

I find it appalling how they don't find the act itself cruel.

The slaughters defend themselves by saying it is only for their pelts so they can be sold over seas, which is the only logical reason I can possibly accept but still despise.

They also say they kill them because they are eating all of the codfish. When in reality, the codfish are being over-fished by fishermen and people are blaming it on the seals. But this is a topic all in itself.

Although it is legal, I still find it to be inhumane and wrong and I wish it was never occurring. No animal deserves to be murdered for their beauty or for just plain sport.

Janie’s poem: feminist lens

Click
The sound the revolver made when Tea Cake triggered through his first chamber.
The sound of our bond diminishing, similar to previous times.
Click
He had lost all sense of sanity as I reached for my rifle. I loaded the chamber with cruelty, for the man who I loved had once more betrayed my brittle heart.
Click
This was it. I leveled the line of the rifles barrel with Tea Cakes chest. The same chest that contained Tea cake’s corrupted coronary artery.
Bang
The din was deafening. The bullet burrowed itself in Tea Cake and brought his life to a harsh harrowing end.
An end that had come prematurely, for the nature of this world does not look kindly upon myself.

Nothing, no sense of burden relieved. My gun had yet to expel the foul fumes of gaseous gunpowder.
Click
I had heard that guilt leads to anger. For all the things I put Janie through, I felt like a manipulative, malicious monster.
Click
My guilt hung heavy in the air. Anonymous atrocities occurred on a daily basis. Loving wives were beaten behind blinds.
Bang
I felt like I was hit by a train. My chest caved, my legs collapsed; but most importantly, my guilt disappeared into darkest recesses of this realm. My bulky body buckled as I blacked out.

Greg Windle's got EVEN MORE BILLS AGAIN

Election Day 2009 For Narayan El

Today when I went out to the polling facility, I quickly noticed that the election scenario this year was hardly like that of last year at all. There were no lines, and not a huge amount of people streaming in and out of the facility. The only similarity between this and last year's election that I saw was that the same people were overseeing/facilitating the voting process, such as Ms. Terry. Connor. From what I understand, today's election scene is much less active than last year's because citizens are voting for individuals for positions that aren't as high as president and vice president. For example, here in Pennsylvania, the election was for Supreme Court judges/justices, the retention of already serving Supreme Court officials, and also for election judges, which Terry was one of the candidates for. So, I would say that because less authoritative figures are being elected today, everyone isn't't as interested in the election, making the voter turnout  lower and causing the facilities to receive less activity. In New Jersey, however, the new governor is being elected, so I would assume the activity is of a higher level over there. For Pennsylvania, it's simply a drop in the frequency of business regarding this year's election due to decreased priority in people's eyes.
