Geometry Benchmark- First Quarter
Submitted by shARCHER on Mon, 11/17/2008 - 13:55.
For our first benchmark in Geometry, we had to create groups of 3. We were then given an topic. With that topic, we had to create a lesson to teach the class. This could include a slideshow, mini quiz, activities etc. The lesson had to be no longer than 8 minutes.
My group was Henry, Randell and myself. Our topic was sports and how they relate to Geometry. The sports we were given to write about were basketball, volleyball and pool. Since there were three of us and three different sports, we decided for each of us to talk about one. I decided I would talk about volleyball. For my mini lesson, I made a slideshow displaying the different angles and measurements in volleyball. I explained how Geometry related to volleyball in many different ways.

What do sports teams mean to the identity of a city?
Sports teams are usually said to be the spirit of the city. Personally, I feel as though Americans are generally corrupt and lack priority and I do not see why people are so excited and over such things. These enormous stadiums are terrible for the environment and require huge amounts of electricity. Fans spend money on merchandise and tickets when I bet you they are having financial problems, not to mention, that we are currently going through ah recession. Students are given the idea that not going to school for the day in order to celebrate is okay. So, why are sports so important?

spend celebrating it brings us closer as a city. everyones in a good
mood and people are friendly. They forget about their problems and go
celebrate with their friends and famies and the other million people who cheered with excitement as
Braid Lidge threw the winning pitch to win the world series. The Vibe
that flows throughout the city after a championship is an amazing
feeling to be apart of.

Sometimes sports teams mean everything to the identity of a city. For example, if a city has a team that is known for wining that that city is looked upon as a winner. This meaning that in order to win you need motivation and the motivation of a major league sports team is the fans, like when a player is asked about something they usually say that this couldn't be possible without the dedication of our fans. In conclusion sports teams are the identity and face of all of the supporting fans.

What do sports teams mean to the identity of the city?
I think that they represent the hope of the city and try to encourage those to try their hardest. I also think that they're the ones who try to make our city a better place because they try to represent our city as one that keeps on trying.

Sports teams mean a lot to a city. It moves a city and embraces their team, in a congradulatory way. For Philadelphia especially, the energy was and still feels amazing. It is important because it shows the spirit of the city, and demonstrates the support of the fans. The parade will be awsome tomorrow. The energy will be brought to its full extent.

The Phillies winning the world series means nothing to me.
I don't mind sports, but there's no reason for me to be proud of the Phillies winning because I'm not in the Phillies. I don't find baseball exciting anyway, and I find there to be little purpose in watching professionals playing a game unless you're interested in playing yourself and want to know how to play better. Generally, people seem to be interested only in who won.

I think the sports team show the location and also stands for what the city stands for and I guess it show the faith of the team and what they want to come and do and stand for. I think it also shows the identity of the city because it shows wat the city wants to become. It shows the city because it wants to identify the city's strength and determination Also, what the city stands for. I think the team gives the city inspiration because it something that represents it.

Sports teams have a mojor role in the identity of a city. When our city's team wins a game, or more importantly - a series. When people come to Philadelphia, they know that the this is the home for the Phillies and that we are world champions.
A time Where Sports were felt extremely important to me.

Now usually, I don't watch baseball but these past few games I've been really keeping a close eye on. Just knowing that the Phillies had a chance of becoming world champions again after 28 years meant so much to me. Last nights game was one of the best moments in baseball. They really deserved it and worked hard to get where they are today. This wasn't our first championship, so I know it won't be our last.

I am really glad that the Phillies have won the world series. I have never been so excited about baseball before in my life. One of the things that I got to do was go to one of the games. That was the most fun that I have ever had at a Phillies game. I am looking forward to going to the parade tomorrow. Baseball is my favorite sport, I don't care what the Eagles do this year.

Sports teams are a very important role in distinguishing the identity of a city, especially in Philadelphia. The people in our city have earned a reputation throughout the country as crazy fans for our sports teams. Before last year none of the Philadelphia teams went all the way for about 25 years. Even with the lack of wins the Philadelphia fans were still devoted to their home teams.

I don't particularly care for the Phillies or any sports teams in that matter. Sports bore me and I have no idea why everyone is so excited by it. I understand that the team hasn't won anything this big in a long time but it isn't really that important to scream about. Well, in my opinion.

Okay so, I never knew anything sbout baseball, until the last few days. Like, the only thing I ever knew was that they hit the ball and people run after it. Honestly, I don't really care that much about it. This may make me sound really girly or whatever, but I'm only happy cause everybody else is happy. I mean, I guess I'm proud of our team or whatever, but I don't really care to much.

I think that sports mean a lot to a city, especially one as unique as this one. Sports bring together different people for the same cause. One student said jokingly, "A time where black and whites unite??? I'm not gonna miss this for school!" That was pretty hilarious. But yeah it's something similar to that kind of meaning to Philadelphia.

Sports are importnat to the city of Philadelphia because it gives us something to be proud of. Instead of the rest of the country looking at us as the city with the highest murder rate, now we're the world champs. It gives hope to the city, and that's what we need right now. It's mroe than just a game to some people, for lots of people like me, sports are my passion. They are what interest me, and the only thing that can really give me a drive.

sports is the main attraction to a city and the heart of their hometown. Sports is classified as a whole and shows how much sports mean to one person itself and the city as well. Sports is a motive and it helps the players show hoe much they are cared about.
The Inspiration Team.
Submitted by bwilliams on Thu, 10/30/2008 - 19:42.
The Phillies are more than just a baseball team. They are people who inspire other people. Yesteday when the Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series, it brought together a since of unity, and love to Philadelphia. Seeing people gather in the streets was exciting, it an enjoyable site to see, rather than the usual violence. I think that not going to the parade would just be horrible, I would feel like I wasnt apart of the team. I would feel like I was missing out on History.

I think that this team has put Philly on the map, well the sports world. Now everyone knows about us even more han our historic value. It also gives us a sort of respect and to know that Philly is more than the violence. That we can raise up against the violence and cheer on a team to victory. It also shows the world that we have something more to offer, it shows that we are a real city of brotherly love.

Let's put it out there: I don't like sports.
I don't care about football, and I fall asleep watching baseball. Basketball is annoying, and hockey is overhyped.
BUT. But, I do love my city. And I love its history. And sports are a part of history.
Last night, when the Phillies won the World Series, a wave of screams rose from the streets up to my 10th floor window. Cars blared their horns, egged on by the exulting masses spilling out from the bar doors.

Why Are Sports So Important To Our City's Identity?
Submitted by hpham on Thu, 10/30/2008 - 19:39.
The sports that mean so much to our city is because sports seem to be something that can connect with everyone all over the world. Sports is something that anyone can do and their aren't really a limit to a sport, but only the rules in the actual game. So a city's identity can be from their sportsteam and in a way if that team is great at a sport, it'll equal big braggin' rights. So overall it's just a giant ego game. But in my overall opnion I could really care less.

What do sports teams mean to the identity of a city?
To a city a sports team is a way to get yourselves out there. It gives the people of the city hope, happiness, entertainment, and pride. Hope that our teams will suceed at what they do for the world to see. Happiness that our team defeated all of the other teams in the country. Entertainment to get our blood pumping and to bring the people of the city together to watch our teams succeed. And pride that our city made something of ourselves, that our city is recognized for doing something good, and that everyone around the country knows who we are because of this. A sports team is our unity, our pride, our love, and our identity.
