Q1 History Benchmark
Submitted by mdea on Tue, 01/06/2009 - 21:27.
For this benchmark, I had to join a group of five people and study the six social institutions found in ancient Egypt’s society. We had to research religious, educational, governmental, judicial, domestic, and economic institutions in ancient Egypt. We then had to design a dinner around a festival in the pharaoh Tutankhamen’s time. We had to create a ritual for the religious institution, and a script discussing the other five social institutions. We, as a group, also had to create a press release for the event, an invitation to the actual event, and a seating chart telling where the guest would be seated.

The final product was to be a play/ dinner that consisted ofthe representation of all social classes, a ritual, and authentic food. 7 parts were incorporated in thisproject, including the invitation, menu, seating chart, press release, ritual, dialogue, and the actual presentation. History
We were told to get into groups of four. We had to work with people we normally wouldn’t work with. People of a different race and cultural background. I worked with Emma, Marinah, and Steve. We were told to plan out a 3-day festival for the Pharaoh of Egypt. He would be visiting the town of per-wadjet, and we ad to make the best festival out of the other groups. We had to make a Friday dinner, Grand dinner (Saturday), and a parade, logo, and poster. We then had to make a dialogue of a guy (for our group a nobleman) meeting the Pharaoh. We also had to make a slideshow presentation

The first benchmark in Mr. Baird's History class challenged us to plan, organize, and manage a harvest ceremony in the Ancient Egyptian town of Per-Wadjet during the summer solstice. King Tutankhamen would be attending the ceremony, which is a full three days and two nights of celebration. The benchmark was done in groups of three and four, and the many assignments required to complete the project were divided among the group. At the end, each individual student was required to complete a separate assignment, a dialogue with the Pharaoh.

For our Quarter 1 history benchmark, my class split into groups of five and planned a skit and presented them to the class to show what an Ancient Egyptian feast might have been like.
We each took the role of a particular person or group in Ancient Egyptian society; farmers, priests, women, craftsmen, and pharaoh(King Tut).
During the dinner, King Tut led the ceremony and asked his guests three questions about their lives.
I was King Tut in my group. If I could do this project again, I would practice the presentation more.
