Q1 Enspañol Benchmark

For Q1 benchmark, we had to create our own survival guide.This benchmark had to b

e based on what we learned for the first quarter of the school year.This benchmark was fairly easy,but it

only would be if you knew your spanish , and if you payed attention.Also from doing this benchmark, at the

very same time, it helped us to get better at our spanish because if you think about it, while your doing your

survival guide, your also studying the spanish because you are continuousley looking over the words and

pharases.

My survival guide dealed with all of the most important things that i learned in that first

quarter. For instance the main things that i put on my survival guide was the mood,how to ask for

things.We had other choices but i choose the main ones so that i could make the benchmark more easier

for me.I thought that i could of had did better though.If i could do this over again, i sure would.

By doing this benchmark over, i could learn things that i didnt learn before.For example,i

could learn from myself that i had a skill to be able to figure out different ways to set up a survival Guide as

a brochure instead of as a book.

Spanish Benchmark

We had to make a speaking guide for Senorita Manuel’s class. It all had to be written in Spanish, and explaining at least five different things that we had learned during the time we were in her class. This ranged anywhere between introducing yourself, to telling the whether. Senorita Manuel tol us to get creative, which inspired me to make “The Travel Guide: Spanish Edition.”

My guide had six to seven pages, including the cover page. I explained Spanish numbers, one to one-hundred. I also instructed how to introduce yourself by saying your name and age. I continued on from there to instruct on how to flirt in Spanish, and how they can combine the flirting and introducing themselves. Example “Hola guapo/a.. Como te llama?” Which means, “Hello good looking, what’s your name.” The last two pages of the article explain how to talk about the weather, and describe how you are feeling.

I wouldn’t change much in this benchmark. I put a lot of time and effort in completing this benchmark. I would print the guide out in color. I did not have a printer at my household. I would have also chose a different color for the magazine, maybe blue or red.

Q1 Biochem Benchmark

For Q1 benchmark,i enjoyed learning about the different scientist, and what they

did. Throughout this whole benchmark, im quite sure that my classmates, and i learned some kind of important

information from one another.Even though we had to do a lot of reading, researching, and examining ,editing, and

writing, it all payed off in the end.Having to actually create your own power point with a fellow classmate and

expose it to your pupils, gives you a warming sensation that you are someone, and that you can become whatever it

is that you would like to be.

For me, when i accomplished this benchmark, i felt asthough, i was a scientist myself

describing how i overcame my obstecles to present the powerpoint that my partner and i had presented.I even

learned something from myself and from my classmates by doing this benchmark.After this benchmark, i started to

realize how people can really go into detail , like as we did with our scientist power point and literally explain what

the scientist did that changed or help our world become what it is now,as if we were them.My partner and i did our

benchmark on Albert Einstein, and we both felt as though we were him , explaining what formulas he came up

with and many more.Also this gave me a coming to life experience instead of reading it straight out of a book.If i

had to do this benchmark again, i would without a doubt.

Repeating this benchmark over can also help me learn things better.For instance, from

watching all of the other groups present their scientist,it gave me an visual picture of what they were talking

about.By having this learned visually ,it helped actually bring the benchmark alive as if we were there with the

scientist when everything happened.Overall, i enjoyed participating in this benchmark,and i will encourage others

to do the same.

History Benchmark

History

We were told to get into groups of four. We had to work with people we normally wouldn’t work with. People of a different race and cultural background. I worked with Emma, Marinah, and Steve. We were told to plan out a 3-day festival for the Pharaoh of Egypt. He would be visiting the town of per-wadjet, and we ad to make the best festival out of the other groups. We had to make a Friday dinner, Grand dinner (Saturday), and a parade, logo, and poster. We then had to make a dialogue of a guy (for our group a nobleman) meeting the Pharaoh. We also had to make a slideshow presentation

I was in charge of creating the Grand Dinner, and the Friday dinner. This included making the menus and the dinner schedule. Originally I was supposed to do the seating chart, but due to technical difficulties, I wasn’t able to. Emma and I were also supposed to create the slideshow. After that was completed, I made my dialogue talking to King Tut. My main character was shocked that King Tut was so young. They have a conversation, King Tut interviews the other character.

If I was to do this project again, I would focus more on this benchmark, and less on others, I didn’t put my all into this benchmark and I could have done better than that. I could have put more concentration into that project, instead of rushing and waiting to the last minute to do half of it.

Science Benchmark

In Biochemistry, my teacher, Mr. Best, read a story, to us and it had things about famous scientist, and their adventures, when he finished the section, he told us to create a auto-biography of a scientist from either the 17th, 18th, 19th, or 20th century. We also had to choose a partner to work with. I chose Vandavy Som as a partner.

The scientist we chose was Albert Einstein. He was one of the best if not the best scientist of the 20th century. Since it was a partner activity, we decided to divide up the work between us. She would do one part of the scientist I would do the other. I completed the biography and slide show presentation. My partner did the Fact sheet, and the SLAward sheet. The SLAward sheet was a sheet we had to fill out explaining why our scientist should get the SLAward.

If I were to do this differently, I would choose a different partner. She did a great job and everything else, but she was sick a lot during the time this project was due and it held us up. I forgot some of the slideshow, which could have helped us, bring our grade up.

English Benchmark

For English, we had to write a thesis document about the Odyssey. We read 10 books (chapters) of the Odyssey already. So our teacher, Mr. Kay, told us to make a thesis out of what we know so far. We had to make a thesis statement, three supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion. We also had to make our own creative writing, with three epic similes, words from the Odyssey, and had to be five hundred, to five-hundred and fifty words, it also needed to describe glory and written in first person.

My thesis was that Athena, a goddesses, was in love with Telemachus, and is trying to make Telemachus more like a man like his father, who she love more. My creative writing, I titled Universal War, which was set in the future, during World War 3. During one of the greatest battles in the war, alien invaders came down and attacked, and took prisoner the father of the main character, Rachael. She saves him, and to do that she had to become captured herself. She is in a spaceship, reflecting back on the war, and why she is in prison.

I wouldn't do anything differently. I believed everything turned out great. This project was the only one I had at the time, so I could focus all my attention and effort into that one project.

Q1English Benchmark

For Q1 benchmark, My stream was given a project to create a magazine.Not only

did we have to create a magazine ,it had to be based on a letter to the teachers,which was Mr.Chase ,

and Ms.Wawa about our old school experience. Also ,we had to include something that was

outstanding about us that someone just needed to know and many more.By doing this project, i think

this helped opened up our minds a little to exllorate the feeling of what we were going to do in our 9th

grade year, and many more to come.As a class, i would say that we all was fasinated by the idea of

constructing our own magazine.Just by thinking about it gave every one of us our own unique ideas of

how we were going to accomplish our own magazines.

When i did my magazine, i tried to put every aspect of myself into it. Such as ; my

intellegnce, creativeness, effort,ideas,and many more.Each one of my pages that i had displayed

always had something to catch your eye and to pull the reader more closer into a positive curiosity sort

of direction to me but on paper.Having me make my own magazine about me, had taught me

more,....about me!, which was a shocking expericence in a good way.If i had the choice of doing this

project over again,then i really would.

Doing this project over again to me is just expanding yourself even more to what

you dont know. For example, i could bet if i did this over, then i could learn something new.It dont have

to be about me just learning anything ,but it could be about me , learning my skills that i did not even

know that i had, just by doing this project.Im sure, that if anyone else does this kind of project, they will

enjoy it, and most likely would want to do it again.If you ask me, i sure would.

My History Benchmark

For Q1 benchmark,me and my partners participated in creating a scene of the late egypt days.Not

that we just had to act out for fun, it also tied in with what we were studying about at the time which was Ancient

Egypt.During the whole scene , we played different people that were mainly part of the economy,for instance, we

had characters;King Tut,King Tut’s Servant,a Priest ,Farmer,a Noble,and a Throughout this benchmark,i think that

i accomplished everything that i was supposed to.Having to actually act out a scene that i was at dinner with King

Tut was a very interesting experience, even though i did not really attend one of his dinners in real life.However, i

had a sort of feeling that my part as being the servant was not a very active part in playing.

For the benchmark, i was King Tuts Servant.In the beginning, i thought that it was the less

important role.Later on while working on accomplishing this scene with my partners, i learned from my advisor

Mr. Sherif,my partners and even myself,that i had the most important role of all.My role had to deal with

everything in the scene expect for really talking.Since it was acted out as being a very important dinner,and i was

the Servant,they kind of both tied in together,and with me being the servant, i kinda of did everything.Well, not

everything, but i was sort of the main character.Overall,by having this experience,it taught me things about

myself,and other people.If i had the choice to do this benchmark again,i would indeed.

If given a second chance to re-act this benchmark , i would take it,and change some things about it.For

instance, i would have forced the dressing code to my partners and even myself, in order to give the viewer a better

picture at what is going on.Also, i would have asked my other partners to really act out their character that they

were given,so that the scene would not eventually get boring and so it would not lose the viewers attention and

satisfaction.Redoing the Dinner With King Tut in a more improved way, can give me, and anyone else who

watches, a more easier way to understand and grasp the way a dinner would be in the ancient days,and understand

all the elements.

Algebra Benchmark 2008

Math this is my favorite subject but the math benchmark wasn’t really it. Well this class it was behind. So instead Mr. Rochester counted a different project as the benchmark project. This project well of course is an algebraic project that involves circles and quadrilateral. Shapes like rhombus, rectangles, and squares. Forming new shapes and explaining how and got the answer for even triangles.
First of all, what I did was mainly answer each question of course. Finding the area, circumference, and making new shapes that would equal to what is wanted by only using sketchpad. Which it was actually really difficult from just using pencil and paper. Using only shapes and finding out our own formulas without looking them up. Just figuring them out really being difficult but easy in the process.
Truly what I would do different is mainly things but this project was also easy. SO there’s not many things to change because it’s algebra besides the answer but nothing else. Only if it is wrong those are the things to change and how to achieve that answer in the process. Explaining it step by step on how this answer was solve showing that you understand it in the process.
