BioChemistry Benchmark

History of Science
For our biochemistry benchmark, we had to pair up with another classmate and research a famous scientist, make a factsheet about him and present some key information about him to the class. In the factsheet could be anything about the scientist, but mainly had to do with his outside (of science) life and contributions to science, such as whose footsteps he may have followed in and who followed in his, and what he did during his life.
I paired up with my friend Dennis, and we researched Antoine Lavoisier. We found out a bunch of interesting facts, such as he worked a lot with elements. His main accomplishment was discovering that when fire loses oxygen, it could no longer burn. This was called the Phlogiston Theory. Dennis winded up doing more research about Lavoisier while I made the factsheet and presentation (Dennis helped me though).
If I were to redo this project, I might’ve taken it more seriously because it was our first benchmark and we made it kind of sloppy and silly. I would change the format of the PowerPoint for sure, add more information, and use better terminology. I also would’ve done more research so it would be easier to make the factsheet and PowerPoint more thorough, even though Dennis helped me with them to edit.

Biochemistry Benchmark Quarter 1

Our project had to be about the science since the 17th century. We worked with a parter that is in our stream. We had to do research about the specific scient that you and your partner chose. We had to make a presentation that was persuasive to Mr. Best and the rest of the class for them to vote for our scientist for the SLAward. The SLAward is like a recognition to all the things that a scientist did for our world.

My scientist was Charles Darwin. We were told to research Charles Darwin and say why he deserves and is worth of the SLAward.

If I had to do this project over again I would follow the planed schedule in order to have all parts fully completed and submitted on time

Bio-Chem Benchmark

Formy first quarter science benchmark we were asked to complete a project on any scientistfrom the 17th, 18th, 19, or 20th century. We were put into groups of 3 & 4.And asked to create a power point, a fact sheet as well as a biography on thescientist of our choice. My group chose to base our project around GorgeWashington Carver.

For this project the worked wasspread out equally through all three-group members. We each did a couple ofslides for our power point. I completed the fact set. Then when it came down tothe biography we each picked a topic or moment in his life that we would writeabout. I was in charge of writing about all his accomplishment and inventions. In the end we combined them all together to make one biography.

If I were able to do the projectall over I wouldn’t change my group member s at all. We worked well togetherand completed our task on time. The only thing I would change is the scientistI chose. I would like to choose a scientist I didn’t know so much about. Sothat I could take more away from the project.

Biochemistry 9 - Green	Best

Biocheim Benchmark

Actually for my biochemist project I was to do a presentation to persuade to vote my scientist for the Slawards. An award that happens only every year that goes for a grade and creativity here at SLA. To win there must be a keynote presentation and informational description on my scientist. Making the slides really crappy that it makes other student to vote for our scientist.
Well first the scientist that my partner Alex and I did on was John Pemberton. Well John Pemberton was the creator of coca-cola in which we wrote about when he was born to when he died. Making slides that were crappy to impress the other students, which it did. Also my part of the project was to write fact all about Mr. John Pemberton which I did. Having us in the end to present, which they enjoy very much.
Clearly the ending result of this project was not what my partner and me had expected. Well to see there would be many things that I would have changed before I ever uploaded this fact sheet. Actually what I would have done was get the rubric for it which I was not aware of on how the fact feet was to be like. A picture and three bulletins was not what I did. To that also my partner had uploaded his part late cutting of 1/3 of the project in the attendant of this project.

Science Benchmark

The idea of the science benchmark was to describe how scientist are continually expanding on the ideas and discoveries of previous scientists. As I completed this benchmark I had to use the core values of SLA.

We were given pairs to work with. In our pairs we had to research an important discovery, experiment, or scientist and address the question “How is a scientist’s work influenced by the work of previous scientists?”

After learning about our scientist, my pair filled out an application for the prestigious “SLAward” in the name of our scientist. It was our job to thoroughly research the scientist’s work and build a strong case as to why our scientist should win the award.
