The Science Leadership Academy is a partnership high school between the School District of Philadelphia and The Franklin Institute. SLA is an inquiry-driven, project-based high school focused on 21st century learning that opened its doors on September 7, 2006.

SLA provides a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum with a focus on science, technology, mathematics and entrepreneurship. Students at SLA learn in a project-based environment where the core values of inquiry, research, collaboration, presentation and reflection are emphasized in all classes.

Congratulations to the SLA Cross-Country Team!

The SLA Cross-Country team competed in it's first official Public and Catholic League Championship on Friday, October 10th! In the Varsity race, Alison Campbell finished 8th out of 120 runners and received honors for her top 20 finish.

We have our last regular season meet this Tuesday, October 14th, and finish up the season on Saturday, October 25th, with the District Championships, where teams and individuals compete for positions in the PA State Cross-Country Championships.

Principal Lehmann: Recognized for ASCD Award!

Congratulations to Christopher D. Lehmann! He has received official recognition for the prestigious Outstanding Young Educator Award, sponsored by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD). This annual award recognizes the contributions of educators across the US. From the ASCD:

SLA Teachers In Education Week

SLA History teachers Gamal Sherif and Joshua Block were featured in the national publication Education Week in a story, "Historic Election and New Tech Tools Yield Promising Vistas for Learning " talking about how the SLA history teachers are using the 21st century tools to examine the Presidental election. Be sure to read!

Lunch Lecture Series Begins -- Oct. 7th

CATA (the Farmworkers Support Committee) will be coming to present on the HIV/AIDS services they provide to migrant farmworkers in the area on the following dates. They are a partner of AIDS Fund who organizes the AIDS Walk.

The money SLA raises for the AIDS Walk will go directly towards the work CATA does around HIV/AIDS (education, prevention, testing, counseling). Come find out exactly how CATA will use the money you raise to benefit their HIV/AIDS programs.

Girls Volleyball Wins Its Fourth in a Row!

Today, in an extremely close game against Parkway Center City, the Rockets suceeded with another victory. The team played with with great teamwork and determination to beat a strong Parkway squad. Playing the best out of five, the Rockets needed a fifth game before pulling together and taking the win. Great Job girls!
