SLA Cross Country Team Supports Courtney's Crusaders

Big shout out to Reggie Simmons who invited and hosted the SLA Cross Country team in the Four Seasons Parkway run to benefit CHOP cancer research. Participants ran on Reggie's sister's team, "Courtney's Crusaders". Yesterday Zahirah, Saamir, Kevin, Desmond, Amelia, Melissa, Amy, Thomas, Cassie, Riley and Reggie ran a 5K race. Des placed 3rd in his age group and won a medal. Great job runners!

Morale Maintained During Downpour

Congratulations to the Science Leadership Academy Cross Country Team runners who competed in today's Philadelphia Area Meet. The students arrived to the Belmont Plateau in good spirits. After several hours of rain, the students were wet but were ready to run! Congratulations to runners who secured medals, with a special shout out to Gold Medalists- senior Katherine Hunt and sophomore Desomond O'Donovan. Other team members who medaled are: junior Wynn Geary, freshman Ella Donesky, freshman Nia Lombo, sophomore Amelia Stuart, junior Thomas Jeffcoat and sophomore Kevin Courtney. Congratulations to freshmen Makhi Richburg and Antonio Flores, and junior Aaron Tang for finishing their first race of the season. As usual, junior Reggie Simmons ran through the finish chute with a huge smile on his face. Juniors Peter Ricker and Temperance Moore provided team support and helped maintained great morale. Thanks to Home and School for providing snacks and much needed rain ponchos. Go Rockets!

School Garden Wins 3rd Place in PHS Contest

Congratulations to the SLA community in winning 3rd place in the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's annual garden contest in the school garden division. The garden is planted, harvested, and maintained by the Environmental Science students. Extra food is donated to the school community and to a senior living center. Great job students!

SLA Showcases Projects at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Regional Science Fair

​Twenty three sophomores, juniors, and a senior showcased their self-designed science fair projects on February 25th at the PJAS Science Fair. All students were confident, poised, and articulate as local judges critiqued their 10 minute presentations. The results of the Science Fair are as follows:

SLA Students to Participate in PennState Science Camp

Congratulations to Bernecia Guercio, Marina Pyfrom, and April Woodburn who were awarded full scholarships to attend the Science U Leadership camp at Penn State this summer. These lady scholars will attend the Elements of Innovation institute from July 31-August 5th in State College, PA. These students completed application packets and were chosen based on their dedication to experimental design and influence when helping others.
