Posted by Cheyenne Pagan in AMHIST-006 on

Right now, the American Dream revolves around becoming famous and getting that 15 minutes of fame and it all leads into money. A hundred years from now the dream will be to make everything even MORE convenient and the future will become a world revolving around electronics. It won't be " What you can do for your country." but instead "What can robots do for you?"

American Dream Transition

Posted by Malik Tlili in AMHIST-006 on
The modern day generalization of the American dream consists of Home own-age, financial stability, and luxurious materials. .

The transition from the modern day american dream and future american dream will be the effect of a brutal war that causes all of technology to be destroyed. the people of the future will live like the first people who roamed earth. This will cause the dedication to finding religious explanations to their existence. The new American dream is to prolong knowledge of the human existence.

Tennessee Coal/Ash Spill

a.) The final project went well. It is visually appealing and informative.
b.) My group and I never really had the chance to collaborate. It seemed that during each period, one group member was not present.
c.) Next time, I would make time after school for my group and I to collaborate. The reason is because I felt like we didn't collaborate as long as we could have. This would have resulted in a better final project.
d.)
  • Be Concise
My group and I were very concise. We kept the text to a minimum.
  • Be Visual
Our info-graphic contained colors that were attractive and eye catching.
  • Be Smarter
Our project was informative as it explained the assigned topic.
  • Be Transparent
In the info-graphic, we showed how the disaster affected those that lived near it.
  • Be Different
We could have made our info-graphic more unique. I feel like it was good, but nothing really made it stand out from others.
  • Be Accurate
My group and I did a lot of primary document research to make sure that all of the information that we used was accurate.
  • Be Attractive
Out project was attractive as it used eye-catching colors.
  • Be Varied
Our project was not very varied. We stuck to the typical components that needed to be included in the project. Nothing was really out of the ordinary.
  • Be Gracious
We didn't really add an emotional tone to the info-graphic. We just made it informative.
  • Be Creative
My group and I were creative with the certain colors that we used.

CPagan,MFerry,ZCastro- Garbage Patch Q3

Coming up with what aspect of the garbage patch we were going to focus on went smooth and we quickly came to conclusion that we were we going to use both the size of the mass and compare it to well known countries. We also included the most common animals that are affected and killed due to the land mass. The process that went along with coming up with the theme went really well as well as putting together the simplicity of the info-graphic. Something that didn't work well is coming up with a design that accurately depicts all of the necessary info. This is difficult when trying to keep a simple and visual theme intact. I would pre-set different sections of my info-graph to different information that is required or useful for the visualizer to understand about the info-graphic's topic. jmyj7

Be Concise- When using sizing to represent a size visually the ratio of the object's sizing must have the same ratio to the numbers.Example: if country A has 100,000,000 people and country B has 200,000,000 then the image that represents country B should be 2x bigger than country A's image.

Be Visual- Use images and visual representation to resemble the information. Do not not use many words. Any words that are used need to have NO way to be resembled visual and must be important enough to be used.

Be Smarter- Use space and words smartly make sure any image, word, info that you use is completely necessary and used smartly.

Be Transparent- The info-graph should be clear and easy to understand explaining any abstract representations.

Be Different- Be inspired by other graphs but think differently about your own design and how your information can be applied visually.

Be Accurate- Do lots of research and make all info accurate.

Be Attractive- Use attractive colors and shapes. Use techniques that are known to attract people to read or understand more.

Be Varied- Try different representations and forms of presentations.

Be Gracious- Be bold without being to cliche bold.

Be Creative- Use all creative tools that are available to you. Don't take th easy way out and don't be afraid to try creative things.

Which of these areas did you excel in? Which were not so well represented? Why do you think some elements of design were easier or harder to include in the end product?

I think we excelled in the attractive aspect, we made our info-graphic visually appealing and easy to understand but I think we could've improved on the varied aspect of the project only for the fact we didn't really take advantage of all the different resources that were available to us. I feel like it was harder to incorporate ideas later on after we already had this idea of what we wanted it to be.

Info Graphic: Tennessee Ash Spill (Yasmeen, Manna, Ronald, Maggie)

Posted by Yasmeen Brownlee in AMHIST-006 on
a. What went well?
We had an idea, and once we fully understood how we were going to post it. Everything else flowed well enough.
b. What did not?
Not everyone was there at each work period, nor was everyone on time for us to utilize the full time that we were given, we didn't upload it to moodle yet. And communication outside of class didn't work very well.

c. What would you do differently next time?
Set up a timeline assign roles and make sure everyone sticks to there roles. Also making sure we were on top of everything as well setting a deadline so that we know how much to pace ourselves.

d. Specifically comment on the 10 tips for effective infographics -
- Visually Appealing
- Not so wordy
- Statistically Sound
- Facts are true
- Colorful
- Interactive (optional)
- Big
- Stands out
- Makes sense
- creative
