Penn InnoWorks 2008 -- Opportunity for Incoming 9th Graders!
Submitted by Christopher D. Lehmann on Mon, 08/11/2008 - 18:44.
Last summer, the University of Pennsylvania Chapter of InnoWorks hosted a group of 42 students from local schools including the Science Leadership Academy, FACTS, Penn Alexander, and Mariana Bracetti. The program was a wonderful success, and this summer, we hope to continue the tradition of spreading a passion for science and learning.
Our second annual Penn InnoWorks summer program will be held during the week of August 25th-29th in the School of Engineering and Applied Science buildings at the University of Pennsylvania. The activities and missions will be based on the InnoWorks: Explorations curriculum, and each day will cover a different theme: Extreme Biomes, Extraterrestrial Excursions, Marine Adventures, Body Expeditions, and Flight & Fury. Each morning, students will engage in activities in order to learn important concepts about that day's theme, and in the afternoon, they will participate in team missions that incorporate the various concepts that were covered earlier in the day.
GlaxoSmithKline has been our major sponsor for the past two years, and Penn has generously provided the facilities and scientific equipment for the workshop. Our college-volunteer strength of over 20 mentors/staff members should allow us to have around 40 local middle school students. Penn has invited incoming 9th grade students to apply to InnoWorks. The Student Application can be found online at http://www.innoworks.org/newinno/studentapplication.php, and I have attached a flyer for the program that may be informative to parents.
Additional information about the InnoWorks program can be found at www.innoworks.org. Please also feel free to contact InnoWorks at upenn@innoworks.org if you have any questions.
