Vilma Martinez: Many Slide

In this assignment we were supposed to create one slide describing ourselves, and also create a script to present to the class. This presentation shows a simple understanding of who I am. As seen here a drawing of a book explains the passion I have for reading, writing, and drawing. Next to the drawing I used "Creative" to describe my personality. The rule of thirds has only been used in this project for the word.

To reflect on this, In the second slide of this assignment I edited a few things of what I was given feed back on. I darkened the gray of the background and then lowered the font of "Creative" and connected the c with the r. There was not much I had to change, just very small details to appeal to the viewers. I just reflected on what I was told and tried my best to fix those small flaws and the product is shown below

Slide Design

In this unit, we looked at how to design slides so they are pleasing to the eye. We looked at the amount of content on the slide so all of the information can be received at a glace. Bleeding, allowing a picture to look like it continues off the page, can allow objects to look larger while not taking up all of the room. We also looked at how to place things on a slide so it feels balanced. The end of unit project was to make a visually pleasing slide about yourself.
On my slide, I decided use a quote and a picture of a rainbow unicorn. Both of the components on the slide are meaningful to me in some way. I felt like the unicorn captured the feeling of the quote and enhanced the slide. The heaviest part of the quote is in the top right corner of the slide. I balanced that out by putting the unicorn with a heavier gray border in the bottom left corner.

This first slide is my first try and the second slide is what I created after listening to other people critiques and hearing the classroom discussion. My first slide was very pixilated and the picture in the corner looked very out of place. For my second slide I made sure all of the content I used was high resolution so everything was clear. I also wanted the picture to look like it belonged more so than in the first slide. To do this, I chose a background color that flowed into the background of the unicorn. One of the way Ms. Hull could have set us up for success was giving us the content that would be used then letting us arrange it on the slide. That way the project would have been more so about the design than the content, which was her intention for this project.

Slide about me

Slide (1)
In Technology class we had to make one slide that shows who we are.  We learned about different methods companies use, like Ikea to make their billboards more attractive.  I used some in the methods in my slide that I made.  Below is my script that I wrote to go along with my slide.

One of my sports that I play is track and field. I would like to run in the Olympics one day.  My slide is a photo of Oscar Pistorius running track.  The quote that I put with the photo was “Pain is temporary but glory is forever.”  The author of the the quote is unknowed.  I thought a picture of Oscar Pistorius was great for my quote because both of his legs were amputated.  He went though a lot of both physical and emotional pain.  Even though he went though lots of pain he didn’t let that stop him from running track.  Now he is a gold medal track runner.  He inspires me because if he can run in the Summer Olympics with two amputated legs I can do what ever I want in life.

The point of this project was to describe your interests in a efficient way and grab peoples attention. My slide is a picture of airplanes cockpit. Airplanes have always been a big influence in my life. My dad is a pilot and since then being a pilot has always been my dream. I want to travel the world and follow the path of my father. While designing the slide I used an image that doesn't take long to interpret. I wanted to make my slide interesting so I decided to make my image fade off the paper. I enjoyed this project and it taught me any things about presenting and advertising.

Reflection:

After this unit I learned how to design slides and make them interesting but simple. By using colorful images and bold letters my reader can now what is going on in my slide. On my new slide I took out one word and added color contrast to the background of my name. Ms.Hull set us up for failure because she did not tell us what to do with specific details or giving us specific details on how to design a slide.

Vaughn's Q2 Media Fluency Slide

My slide is on track. I chose track because track is one of my favorite sports. I run track and I love track with a passion. Alot of people I know have been running track for a long time and love track like  I do. I chose to put Usain Bolt in my picture because he is a role model to athletes who run track and he is very fast and athletic.I love track because when I see how bad I am at any other sport, I look back and see how good I am at track. You win some, and you lose some. Lose or win, when I run track, I always feel like I'm a winner.

I made two changes to my slide. My first change was the font of the words. I changed the font because I didn't like the font and I thought it should be bigger so it would look better with the picture. The second change I made, was the color of the words. I changed the colors of the words because people suggested that I should change the color. So I changed the color, so it would flow with the the lights behind and around  the runner, Usain Bolt. I learned that font makes the slide really noticeable and color is important.

Presentation About Me

For this project in technology class, my classmates and I had to design a slide all about us. With that slide we had to use methods of making a slide the best as possible as we had learned in previous lessons. That meant leaving some space, writing in large font, make it colorful and to use bleeding to make the slide strong. Using these methods I came up with this slide to represent me.

This presentation shows a example of glance media. There is one picture of the United Nations and my name. By there a reader would automatically understand my message with just one glimpse.  There are only two words on the slide, “Gabrielle” and “Kreidie”, my name. This allows the reader to not have to read through a whole lot of words, only stare at the picture. The reader automatically gets the picture/idea. I was not being a wimp throughout this slide, I made things big. I made the slide colorful and I made the picture turned a bit showing a more flow in the wind of the flag. I allowed the picture to be bled, one did not have to see the entire pole from which the flag was flying across. There was some clear space around the flag not allowing the flag to take up the whole slide. This presentation, as I said earlier, shows the reader the ultimate message: I, Gabrielle Kreidie, have a admiration and love for the United Nations.

Presentation on ME (Part 1) (2)
After receiving constructive criticism from my peers, I designed a slide that was more inspiring to the eye. I took away the shinning light behind the United Nations flag, as well as, removed the flag all together. I decided to push a more classy and complete, straight to the point slide. The slide is the three top chairs at the United Nations General Assembly where the Secretary General, President and Under Secretary General of the United Nations sit. This showed the viewer that I want to be in one of those chairs in the future. The slide was brighter showing optimism with the hope to accomplish that goal.

Ms. Hull set me up to fail by giving me very little directions. She allowed us to be in charge of our slide, she allowed us to take complete control, which turned out to be a great decision on her part. We started off not getting the whole idea of making a slide magnificently beautiful in the design area. After viewing our peers' slides, it became clear to how to make a well and poor designed presentation slide. Thank you Miss Hull, for allowing me to improve my strength in designing slides.

Fodie Camara

Ms.hull!
I made this slide look this way because in the lesson you taught us, they showed us many different way to show off a billboard. I took a colorful picture from Google and used that for my background. I used huge letters and bright colors to make it noticeable. I tried to make my billboard very visual and tried to fill in the empty space to not make it corney. The lesson influenced my decision in many ways, like how should I show my billboard off. By using a lot of color, or huge words with color and more.

Shaina Keenan Q2 Media Fluency Slide

Shaina Keenan, Slide #1
Hi, I am Shaina Keenan. To begin with, I utilized my own photography to make my slide visually appealing. Next, the point of my slide is to present one of the many parts of my life, taking pictures. I used my quote from my Me Magazine, because it is short, sweet, and gets the point across to the audience. For example, I love to capture small things such as flowers, because they are simple yet beautiful things that we all walk by everyday. As Presentation Zen suggested, I was not a wimp about the size of my font; I did not make it too big or too small. For my contrast segment, I chose the classic black and white theme, with hints of pale blue and gray; I really wanted the pictures to stand out. Furthermore, I did not want the placement of the pictures to JUST be side by side or perfectly centered on the slide; that is BORING. Therefore, I made the decision to have the pictures bleed over the bottom and side, a little. Lastly, as one of my final decisions that I made about the slide design is the information that it would consist, along with the space it would take up. I did not want too much empty space, so I made the font and picture sizes larger. Also, it allows the information to pop, and the slide to not be to boring or empty.
Shaina Keenan, Re-Slide
As a second part to our Quarter Two Media Fluency slide, we were to create a second slide based off of our feedback from the presentation. I learned a lot of new vocabulary from Presentation Zen and my fellow classmates. I learned such things contrast, rule of thirds, and more. This new information and vocabulary has led me to reviewing and critiquing other billboards and advertisements.

Reflection

Based on the feedback from my classmates and Technology teacher I have ended with one final product. I received a little amount of feedback, but it was very helpful. Ella and Ameena commented that I should change the positioning of my quote. Also, I was told the colors, and choice to bleed were strong and good. Therefore, I changed the positioning of my quote, and just removed my name and the quotations. I did not touch any colors or any of the pictures! Along with the vocabulary, I learned that your peers can truly support you to help you produce a better product, and become a stronger student.

Ella Donesky's Media Fluency Slide

My slide represents my love of music, especially The Beatles and other oldies bands, and also my fascination with beetles and other insects. In the middle of the slide, is a quote from one of my favorite Beatles songs, that represents something I value.

The composition of my slide consists of decisions I made about the type, contrast, color, visuals, space, theme, and organization of the images. I knew which images I wanted to incorporate in my slide, and my main focus was to arrange them creatively, while also following the rules of composition. I chose a black and white Beatles image, and decided to tilt it on one side. This was mainly because I thought it was more creative than having it right side up, and because I didn’t think that you needed to see the image clearly to recognize who they are. Also, I didn’t want to have “floating images,” and I wanted to leave some space on the slide, so I pushed the image to the right side. I wanted to represent a single theme in my slide, so I decided to play on the word “beetle” and show the other side of what that word meant to me. I incorporated my fascination with beetles. I chose to put the images of the beetles on the left side of my slide, to balance the placement of the images, and to show more clearly the nature of the opposite meanings, but similar sounding words. There were no more images that I wanted to add, so I left it as it is. I thought of adding more, but decided not to, because I didn’t want to cram the space and give less attention to the images, individually. My last step was to add the text. I put the text in the middle, balancing the placement of all the pieces, while also following the rule of thirds. I chose the text size in the slide, because I wanted it to stand out, but not overpower the images. Originally, the text was black, the images were black and white, and the background was white, but I realized that I didn’t include any color in my slide, so it wasn’t very eye catching. When I thought about where I should add the color, I decided to add it to the text, because it contrasted between the color of the text and the color of the images, and the actual piece of text and image. The color I chose is orange, because orange is my favorite color, and it creates a visually appealing color scheme. I arranged the orange box, with the quote inside it, in the middle of the slide. Vertically, I placed it directly over Paul and Ringo’s heads, lining up with the ends of their heads. This creates an even and balanced composition throughout the slide.

I apologize for the cut-off image of The Beatles. I don't know what happened there.

Q2 Reflection #2

Rifah Islam's Media Fluency Slide

Rifah's Islam Media Fluency Slide (1)
Hi! I’m Rifah Islam and this slide is about one major influence in my life. My ohana, or family is very special and important to me. This slide is dedicated to my family. Anyway, I designed the slide to made the it look the way it is for a couple reasons. I tried to make the slide visual, focused and understood by just one glance. I also tried to achieve good contrast in my slide. To do so, I kept text to a minimum and one picture. Since I only have three words and one picture, I needed them to be captivating and memorable. To make the text both easy to understand and eye catching, I used the largest font size for the word ‘Ohana’. Then, I made the definition of  ‘Ohana’ (‘means family’) only two sizes smaller. I kept the text plain all black, so there is also a fair amount of attention going towards the picture. The picture I tried to keep very simple, yet compelling. I used a white as my background color so that the beautiful blue of Stitch’s skin stands out. Finally, I used the rule of thirds to help me while arranging my slide. I kept some parts of my slides empty, to add some balance. I didn’t want my slide to be overpowering. That’s why I designed the slide the way I did. Thank you for taking the time to listen (or read) to me talk (or write) about my slide and it’s design!
Rifah's Islam Media Fluency Slide (2)
After presenting my media fluency slide to the class and receiving feedback, I changed my slide just a bit. Since I had gotten mostly positive feedback about my slide (thankfully!), I didn't want to change it too much. I kept the sizes of the text, the font, the spacing and the centered text and picture the same as before. I just switched the side the picture and text was on. Now it looks like the Stitch is looking at and the heart is pointing towards the text. This gives the slide a nice transition from the picture to the text. Thanks for all the great feedback! I hope that I was able to change the slide for the better.

goat slide

I put this because I was given this name in SLA because of my eating habits  but I think that goats have personality trait that are similar to mine. Goat are intelligent and curious, they are also independent and stubborn. Mountain goats adapt to the climate and can survive on sparse food in rough and dangerous terrain.

what I learned: that people do not like to see an image that bleed in a way they can't see the image fully or comprehend it fully

Calamity's Tech Slide

This is my slide. [show slide and allow five seconds before starting] Think aloud. Just a quick background on what this means in reference to me: I’ve always been a performance-based person in a lot of different ways, which is implied by the retro microphone and the lights, but it also tells the viewer that I’m outgoing and I speak up without hesitation. As we’ve already learned for our projects, good signage has to be noticeable, understandable, memorable and influential, and that was the rubric I used to create this slide. I paid attention to specific elements such as alignment, proximity, contrast, and color.

First, the text. I made it white to contrast against the blurred and generally sepia colored background. Since the eye is traditionally lazy and is attracted to blank, empty space, I wanted the first thing that the viewer saw to be the words, think aloud, and then to the picture behind it. I made the letters evenly spaced and aligned perfectly horizontally so that it would not appear messy or confusing in any way. Very simple and neat.

Now, the image. I edited a photograph from the Internet to make it slightly more old-fashioned and hazy and to make it my own. I also didn’t want it to be distracting with too many clear, dark lines that would take away from the message. It’s extremely important that when creating glance media, everything is very obvious and only takes a moment to digest. I also wanted to make it memorable, so that it wasn’t a single word, a verb, a noun or anything along those lines. I wanted it to be unique, so I decided to make it an action/suggestion. Not only this, but it was very important that it inspired the viewer to do something, and I hope that the viewer is inspired to think aloud. This means that the viewer should not be afraid to share their ideas and thoughts with those around them. It’s a motivator!

Those are all of the glance media tactics I used to create my slide. Thank you!

Artículo 2: Vírgenes, Católicos, y Inmigrantes

Quarter 2

No sé. Aparentemente el virgen, Virgen de Guadalupe, mató a San Juan Diego. No sé.

Media Fluency

Before starting the slide, I read over the Presentation Zen to see how the slide should look like. At first I wasn't sure what I should put on the slide to talk about myself. Once I decided what to do, I had to figure out how I was going to organize everything I learned in the Presentation Zen. I had gone through a few different arrangements before I settled on this one.
I tried to use all of the elements of font, background, pictures, and colors to create the project. When I typed everything up, I tried to make the font big so that you could see it from anywhere. It also would grab your attention quickly. I also had the fonts in colors that contrasted each other. I wanted it to all flow together into one. I had the background big so that it bled off the page. I also left some empty space to balance the presentation.

Media Fluency
After presenting the slide to the class I learned a few new things. I needed to not create to give some space between the edge and the words so that it does not seem uncomfortable to the eye. Also you need a contrast so that you can see the difference between things. Another thing I learned is to have everything cohesive; you can't have like four different random things.
Media Fluency #2 (1)

Media Fluency

My presentation is very simple. There is a tough looking baby. This shows that I’m still young and that I should try hard on everything I do. You may notice that there isn't much  text here. My big picture is on one side and it is very large so it can attract people’s eyes first. The text is on the opposite side. The word, “Success,” is the second biggest on the slide so it should be the second thing that attracts people’s eyes. I only use one word to describe me because I want  the other components to represent me and flow on my slide. I learned that you shouldn't have much text on your slides because you want to be the one teaching. I also learned that by over sizing the picture on the slide it can also attract a lot of eyes. Thank You!
Media Fluency
Media Fluency #2
After the feedback that my friends and Ms. Hull gave me, I learned a few new things that I can improve on my new slide. I made sure that my text are not too far or close to the slide and that it is comfortable to see on the screen. In my last slide, my picture was very pixelated, so on my new slide I edited it to make it look very neat and clear. I chose to overlap two text because it gives it more than one color and it stands out more . I chose those following colors for my text because it matches with the color of the sky in the picture. I use the rule of the thirds to line everything up, but the far left side is empty because I think that there was already little space for text. So if I add text on it then it would look very tight. Thank You!

Media Fluency Slide About Me!

1 SLIDE ABOUT ME Tech

Hi!

My name is Ari, and this is my slide! I believe that this slide very accurately represents me as a person, and my knowledge of design. When I created my slide, I had two goals: simple and easily understood. I used my research about slide and poster design to make the best slide I possibly could.

At first I had a different design, however there was not enough emptiness in it. I realized that there was just too much happening in the slide. So, I focused on one part of me to describe. I made sure that the elements were evenly aligned. I did this by keeping in mind the rule of the thirds. Since the background is so colorful, I had to make sure that the words contrast the background. That is why I made the letters white with a black background. I also made sure the proximity and size of the words were properly adjusted so they were not too overpowering.

I hope you enjoyed my presentation, thank you!
1 SLIDE ABOUT ME Tech (3)

As you can see, I changed my slide. I learned a lot from my presentation, and other peoples presentation. I learned that the kerning should even through out. Also, I needed to take away the tangents from the letters and the boxes. I also learned that you should have the words in the picture either completely contrast the background, or it should match and correspond with the background. That is why I made the changes I did.

Harry Freed: Very Slide

1slide1furious
(The following is in reference to only the first slide.)
This slide-project was assigned for tech, to help us better understand simplistic design.
I made this slide the way I did because it looks nice- namely, it draws your eyes to the word “WOW” through contrast and and size. I included the word “WOW” and a zoomed in picture of that Shiba Inu because it represents the unhealthy amount of time I spend on the internet. I used the color pallet of red, grey, and white because of how well they contrast. I kept it to three words and one photo so that during presentation, the slide would not visually drown out my voice. I tried to make it so that each set of word took up two thirds of a row of a slide, and so that the picture took up the same, following the rule of thirds.
I had the font as Comic Sans because it was a reference to the internet phenomenon known as "Doge," but decided that Comic Cans wasn't minimalist enough and that I should to change it to Arial.
1slide2furious
(The following is in reference to both slides.)
Through this slide-project, I learned the desired features of a slide. I knew already what an "appealing one" looked like, but having it spelled out so plainly by Presentation Zen was useful.
For the second draft of my slide, I changed the bottom text to "thumbs up" and I changed the location and size of my picture to higher and smaller (respectively), and I changed it from a doge picture to a free thumbs up picture. This was all in the interest of making the doge less annoyingly prominent.
I was unaware that "Ms. Hull set me up for failure."
During classroom discussion, I learned how easy it was to pick on even the best of student art. In a topic you are well educated in, any error becomes glaring.

Me Magazine Slide

Media Fluency (1)
The slide looks like this because I wanted to have a good moment of my life being highlighted and for you all to see it. I even included a quote from Robert Williams, (AKA Meek Mill) who I took the picture with. This happened because I used good contrast of what color the text should be so that people can see it no matter what. I also made the text not touch the important parts of the photo. I feel like this quote relates to me because I have a lot of dreams of what I want to be doing older and I am currently working on it to make it be true. I put the text where it was because it does not interfere with the main part of the photo. The main part of this photo is me meeting a famous rapper who is somebody known for working really hard to be where they are.

All about me in one slide

Me all me
So these photos represent me in so many ways. The are two pictures of my family cemetery, the one picture is my help cleaning it up and the other is of some of my ancestors graves. My uncle has a website if you guys want to learn more about it. I will put the website address at the end. anyways my ancestors owned most of German-town and into Flower-town. The cemetery land we brought that from William Penn himself when we sailed over to america. I am a animal lover and on this slide there are two cute pictures of my dogs Lucy and Marcelo. I had Lucy since my fifth birthday so she is 9 years old and I had Marcelo for almost two years he will be two on January 17. I used to play the clarinet and maybe one day I will play a song for you guys . Finally is the national naval center(N.N.C). That is where I was born on October 3,1998 at 3:00 pm. Now this building is in Bethesda, Maryland  my father was a naval corpsman and he worked in the same building when I was born, and now my older brother is working there too but not in the same part as my dad. yeakelcemetery.com is the website if you would like to see all about my family history.

Augmentation

Character lays sideways in bed, feet and head dangling over opposite sides, propping up his head with his arms, apparently staring up at the ceiling. He is smiling and chatting with his friend via his augmentation implant, a chip designed to grant the user abilities greater than that of a modern day computer.

“Haha, alright, I’ll talk to you later. Bye. Pause. End call.” Sits up, sighs.

My friend likes to ramble. I like to listen to him, so I think we make a pretty good team. Now, he was just rambling to me about family history, some funny events that lead him to meet his wife, the sort of thing he talks about sometimes. When he was getting to the end of his story, I asked him what his first date with his wife was like, just to humor him, to let him talk about what he likes to talk about. He responded evasively, I inquired, and he confessed to me that he didn’t really remember.

Character’s face turns serious. Now I know it’s not just me.

People don’t remember things anymore; they have technology and chips and stuff to memorize things for them. This whole generation has ADD. Social networks are accessible from anywhere, we can’t focus because we get notifications, calls, distractions that bring us back to the world of our friends, and it’s wired right to our heads. Literally. The era of smartphones is gone and chips have replaced them.

Stands, paces. Matter of fact, I was the last one to sign up for an augmentation chipping. My family and friends told me it was “the ultimate convenience” and my son uses it like a drug. He told me he was getting work done and that he didn’t need a computer or anything else. Now, I know he has also had issues with his work ethic. I’m trying to not let him slip into the zone of social isolation. The bubble of games, music, videos, digital communication. I just want my kid to be able to focus on school and not go all spacey on me when I talk to him.

I remember when he first got his chip. I was anxious as hell and I had learned everything there was to learn about augmentation, and why it was supposedly a good choice. Back then, I think it was expensive, but I’d been told about the calendar and digital organization and event planning and whatever. Know what? Right after we got it, he was texting his friends, going on the web, just staring at nothing in particular. As I recall, that was the first time I saw the glaze in his eyes as he looked to his upper left at the little display.

Before chips were becoming widespread, I didn’t really think much of the pace of technology. I mean, I knew it was fast, and new inventions were always happening, but… well, I can’t predict the future. My memory is fuzzy on occasion, but I think about 2005 was when me and my wife wanted a son. Now she wanted… um… well, she asked me if I was ready, and I told her… huh.

Addressing the audience: You ever have a memory almost clear in your mind and it just evades you? That’s what’s been happening to me recently. I mean, I’m only 48, but… do I need a doctor? Character’s speaking becomes excited and angry with realization, and gets a crazy edge to his voice. No. No, it’s this damned thing in my head! I swear it’s messing with me. I know that I’ve never had these issues before “augmentation” and that I haven’t always been like this. I think that - Pauses. You hear that…? I swear I heard a click, right in the back of my he - Pauses again. Character blinks and looks dazed and unfamiliar with his surroundings.

What just happened? Man, I don’t remember what I was just doing. Exit.

Why Me?

Jamie Turner

11/12/13

Gold Stream

Well my life is pretty much ruined.  Why me? Why god? Why? I thought Pop was a good person.  I know he ain’t doin it to hurt me but why does he gotta go?  I have to go through the rest of my summer witout my ole’ man.  My bestfriend.  I just wanna wake up and smell Pop smokin another cigarette in the morning, go down stairs and talk to him for a lil bit before I hop in the shower.  I just… Why me?  I thought pills were medicine.  How could they hurt you?  I really need some some sleep but I just can’t close my eyes.  It hurts too bad.  Maybe this is a dream.  Ima just close my eyes and wake up and it’ll have never happened.  I’ll be good.  It ain’t even a big deal.  Who am I kidding?  What has happened to my life?  I need a plan asap.  I gotta get a job.  Ma and Kell need me.  God only knows how much we need that money.  Then I’ll join the marines when I turn 18.  That’ll be a good amount of money for us.  But maybe he’ll be out by now.  Oh god this is bad! Who is gonna be there for everyone else?  Who is gonna take me to baseball practice?  How will ma ever get Kell to piano straight from the office?  Pop must hate us.  If he could just go and… I don’t even want to know what he was doing or who he was wit.  Oh God!!!!... What am I gonna tell Jared when he realizes my Pop ain’t here no more?  Jimmy ain’t gonna know.  He’ll think pop is just workin extra hours down the mill.  Ma better not be doin that stuff.  I love pop to death and I love ma to death but if ma was drugged out i couldn’t take it.  We gone have to get ride a the dogs?  Jack ain’t a bad dog but hes gotta stop pissin in the house. Holly ain’t bad either.  Shes just gotta stop eating the darn trash.  Damn dude… This is really happenin isn’t it?  Mama better not give up on me and Kell.  I can’t stand Kell let alone raise her.  Shes gotta quit annoyin me to deaf wit that stupid music and her stupid phone.  She ain’t got no friends hows she gettin all a these texs.  Nah it ain’t her fault.  She don’t even care about Pop.  Me and pop were boys but he never loved either of us more than the other.  Are ma and Pop getin a divorce?  How long did they know about this?   Oh well I gotta get some sleep.
