(If I were in his place…)

- Encontraría nueva novia.

Si viera a la novia de mi mejor amigo besando a su primo, hablaría con la novia y después, hablaría con su primo sobre la situación. Sin embargo, si ellos no escucharan, diría mi mejor amigo.

A slide

This slide employs simplicity and the rule of threes to some extent. I was able to incorporate the white space into the design scheme, and used vibrant colors to attract attention. I also divided the drawing into 3 parts, with each giving a separate piece of information, to make the conveyance of information as smooth and fast as possible.

The organization of my slide is really simple. The colors I chose symbolize my favorite colors. Also they go together. The word describe myself and how I see myself. The reason i placed my words where they are, are because they are spread out. The spacing of the words show creativity. There is a little bit of repetition, letters and size fonts.
Preview of slide tech
I used the critiques given to the best of my abilities. I made my slide simple. I did this by using a picture that shows friendship, love, and family. I put my name at the top but used a color that went perfectly with the picture.

I put a photograph of me in the background because that is what the slide is about. I have the photo fade a little bit at the end because I don’t want  it to distract people to much. I also have it turn red because red is my favorite color. My name is written in large font, and it’s red which provides a nice contrast. The font is pretty large because that is the title, and the main point of the slide. It is important to have that really stand out. The background dissolves in which is a bit more sudlle Then I put photos of my various interests because that defines who I am. I put a liger in the slide because I really like animals, especially ligers. I put pancakes because pancakes are my favorite food. I put a sketchbook because I like to draw, and I put a running track because I like to run. The photo of the lion thing to the right is from the card game magic the gathering which I like. This is why I designed the slide the way that I did.

I learned to use the rule of thirds. So I used three images on each side of the slide. This also uses symmetry, as opposed to my earlier slide which had three images on one side and two on the other making the side with only two images look incomplete. I positioned the images in a more interesting way, instead of just in columns, and made them different sizes so that they stood out. I positioned them in a way that they didn't crowd the back ground image. I didn't label them like i did earlier because that was unnecessary.

August Polite keynote

I have been drawing things for years, and just recently made a tumblr for my art.
I put a lot of digital art there and it is starting to expand rapidly. This is an important part of my life because I hope to use this as a mean to bridge out to the professional art world. I just added the visual art portion of my life, but I also am trying to branch out to the musical strata in the form of an E.P I am working on.
I like the show “Adventure Time” and draw things about it as well as
the art for the ipad app:“Sword and Sworcery”.
The art I do is not exactly for the game but I have come into contact with the creator and he has commented on my art and added it to his blog.

About Me: Hello my name is Jiwon Choi. Some of my hobbies are playing on my piano and oboe, reading books, listening to music, and going on my laptop. I made this slide look the way it does because it stated that there should not be a lot of words on the slide and the words should be in big letters. Therefore, I made the words big and put little words as possible. I made the music notes on the staff bleed on the slide because I didn’t really want it to look like it’s fitting on the slide. I thought if I made it bleed, it would capture people’s attention more. Why did I put the music staff on my slide? I put the music staff because most of my hobbies are about music. For example, like playing my piano, oboe, and listening to music. Also, my hobbies are in different shades of blue because I wanted it to contrast with the background color. My name and the word “hobbies” are in green because I wanted to contrast it with the green patch on the top.

About Me
About Me

I made some changes to my slide because my older slide has too much words on it. I changed it into a black background because it looked more simple. I still have the music  staff in there because my main theme for my slide is music. The music staff also bleeds because I didn’t want it to fit onto the page. I made my name stand out more because I wanted my name to stand out more. The font of my name is not playful anymore because I wanted to make it look more formal.

Colors:
For my color scheme, I tried to stick with yellow and red. The yellow pops out with the red behind it making it eye catching and easy to read.
Size: I tried to make the text as large as possible. I also tried to keep the size the same. Unfortunately, sometimes I could not fit text of that size into the slide.
Placement and angling: I made sure that the text and pictures were lined up as best as possible with one another. I also angled the heading text.
Repetition: I am most lacking in repetition. It was only one slide so there was not a lot of room for repetition.

Reflection

I learned that lots of the time, pictures are better than words. I also learned that having less stuff on my slide makes it look less cluttered and more neat. I also learned how to use bleeding to my advantage to create a slide that flows well. I kept the color scheme the same but changed the font to match the rounded edges of the notes.

Media Fluency

Hello, my name is Michelle Friedman. Here you see several photos of things that I particularly enjoy. The first thing is a picture of a piano. I have played piano for 8 years and I still love it. The next photo is up top, in the upper left corner. This is a photo with Benedict Cumberbatch and Matt Smith. These are the men who play Sherlock Holmes, from Sherlock, and the Doctor, from Doctor Who. Finally, the third picture is one you all should recognize. It’s the Science Leadership Academy Logo. I also have three words in the center: Hard work, friendship, and family. These are three big values that I have in my life.

That is basically what my slide looks like. But why did I choose to make it like that? Well, presentation zen and slide design for developers taught me to use colors that contrast. That is why I chose bright orange fonts and darker pictures. My pictures also have a border of bright orange to tie it all together. I made the background one large picture to make everything bolder and make the res of it stand out. I learned this from Presentation Zen.

After watching and listening to multiple presentation, I learned many new tricks for creating a great slide. Of the suggestions I received, I used three. The first thing I did was change the background photo. I found one with higher resolution and less pixels. Then I got rid of the photos up top because they were too ugly and distracting. They did not look good with the rest of the slide because of the colors. Finally, I changed my name from "Michelle Friedman" to "Michelle".

I went through many iterations, many of them were to complicated according to the feedback I received. I tried to center things the last time for the sake of simplicity. I thought my other designs were off center making them complicated and hefty to read despite being fancy and appealing to the eye. The last one didn't have borders which I'm not sure that I like, but it sure does make it a fair amount simpler. I tried to change the color-scheme as well but I am somewhat afraid that I made that part more complicated. Overall, I tried my best no matter how it turned out and we all know that effort is what truly matters.
ME

Slide Design

Hello, everyone! These are my goals in life (shows slide). Now, the first thing you may be thinking about when you see this is the colors or even the funky doctor. The colors are not a pattern, even though you may think it is. I chose to make the colors that way to depict important words. The red words are the important ones, while the blue ones are not as important. You may have also realized that the blue words are slightly smaller as well. This way, even if you were in the back of the room, you’d still be able to read my slides perfectly.

Why did I put the picture of the doctor? I put it there because the audience would be pretty bored if slides were just consisted of words. I put visuals in my slide to keep the audience entertained and awake. You can probably call it my trump card.

Something that influenced my decisions is Zach Holman’s post about slide designs. I was able to look at some of the slides he created and how they were visually appealing. He was able to get his point across clearly, while keeping me awake. He made use of different colors/fonts which made it exciting and fun to look at.

Reflection

I found that my original slide was pretty good. After my presentation, I thought otherwise. One thing that I needed to change was the text style. I had two different text styles for the words, which I didn't notice. Another thing that needed to be changed was the pictures. The actual pictures themselves wasn't the problem, but the white background with them was. To fix that I'll have to use the "Alpha" tool to remove the white background and re-arrange the pictures. Last, but not least, remove the bullet points. The bullet points gave the slide a look of formality when it was intended to be fun. This is my new slide.

As you see here, I created a slide. To create my slide, I used the concept of bleeding to the picture of the piano keys, so the viewer is left with some wonder and has to think about what the rest of the picture is.  I made the type big so people would be able to read it easily, without taking their attention from me speaking. I made the slide mainly visual by making the focus the photos that I added. I created the slide so you would only have to glance at it. I used the rule of thirds to somewhat separate my photos into three columns, and added a small amount of text to narrate what I was talking about. I tried to make it as brief as possible, considering how many things I could’ve added.

Most of my design was following what it said in Presentation Zen: Make things big. I did this for most of the images, and then made the text a little bit smaller, because Presentation Zen says to make things visual. I started with the headcrab a lot bigger, but eventually made it smaller because Presentation Zen says to have empty space. I think I could have had a bit more empty space if I could do it again, though. I also made the bacon bleed a bit, according to Presentation Zen's tips. If I could do it again, I would follow the rule of thirds, because my slide seems a bit disorganized. I would also add more contrast if I could do it again.

For my revision of my slide, I took most of the elements of my first slide out because my first slide was far too cluttered. I also followed the rule of thirds and kept the text big.

The purpose behind my slide is simple really. I'm organized, but I like to be messy. I like to change the way my words are facing. I like to give things color and leave things bland. When it comes to the pictures: I have a sketchpad because there are times where I'm so bored that it inspires me to draw. I'll draw people, cartoons, logos, nature, whatever comes to me at that moment in time. A picture of Bruno Mars is up there because he will always be my "husband". I've loved his music since day one and am a die hard "Hooligan". He's a big part of my life. I have a picture of a present and it says "quince" inside. I just turned 15 and had my quinceanera. In the latin culture, that was my transition in life from a girl to a woman. I have a picture of a pug with the word "pugly" above it because I have 3 pugs at home and they're ugly but know how to be cute at the same time. The words I have represent me and how I am or what I like. And that's about it.

New Reflection: As I created this slide I paid more attention to the presentation zen ideas and the critiques I heard in class. This time I have a completely different slide and kept everything simple. I used the idea of bleeding with the flag in the background. I contrasted the red with with white when it came to my name (I sampled the same color from the white stripes). I have one big visual in the back (the flag) and my name would be the glance media. I also used big font again.

When I saw the default font (Gill Sans) for the slide type I chose (White), it looked perfect for te type of design. I chose a puzzle-piece sort of design because it expresses ideas clearly, and looks smooth. Its coloration provides a bit of contrast between words, making it even clearer. It’s in a square about ⅔ the height and width of the overall slide. This technically doesn’t conform to the rule of thirds, more like the rule of sixths, as it leaves about a sixth on each side. It’s not quite exact, though. I didn’t use pure black, because it would be too strong.

The reasons I choose this slide because its mine! The font I have my name in is Jazz LET. I think this is cool because it is not a normal font. The background and my name represents my two favorite colors. All the different words scattered around my slide describe me. Although I think this looks off, we're here to learn from what me make of things.

After all the criticism from my peers. I decided to change my whole slide. For my background I used a different layout provided by keynote called Watercolor. Although my original slide was bright blue I thought it would be better to tone the colors done. I made my name the focal point of my slide by picking a navy blue to contrast over the soft blue. I believe this slide has come a long way, compared to my original one.

MEDIA FLUENCY Presentation

The decisions I made on this slide were based on the things that we talked about in the last class. When Mr. Lehmann Came in and showed us that less is more i took it to heart and i used as little as possible to describe me. Three was a good number for me because it gives me the options to say what is constant in my life (love) what I love to do (art) and what i hope to do forever (travel). and those three things can be interpreted differently through different people, which is what I wanted so that people could have their input in my slide. The three second rule for the three photos. I made the text big enough to read from anywhere but small enough not to distract from my presentation and speech. The repetition was in the three photos and three words.

The first thing my slide needed was a title. Now, this is a slide about my self, so I made the title my name, in the fairly striking Synchro LET font. Next, I decided on a color theme. The light blue, dark blue, and red were all colors had contrast with the white background and each other, so I chose that as the color scheme. Then, I placed a few simple descriptions, with periods on both sides for maximum symmetry, and to funnel the viewers vision into the slope of the words. I used the Gill Sans font, bolded, because it was aesthetically pleasing. Lastly, to add a bit of an “image” to the slide, I added large question marks, which also served to symbolize the “Who am I” aspect of the project.
Slide Supremacy

The reason I made the first slide was I wanted to give the audience a sense of what I like to do. I wanted them to know what meant a lot to me and the thing that I like the most. The thing that influenced me was the  Zen presentation. The presentation really helped me to fully understand how to create the first slide. I put all of the pictures in the position they are in because I wanted them in that place. I made my name in that font size because I wanted it to be big. I put the font in that color for a reason. I used different colors in the pictures because I thought using different colors would make the slide better. I also thought that using the different pictures sizes would be best for the slide. Last of all, I made these decisions because I thought they would be best for my slide.

Since creating my first slide I have learned even more about making slides. I changed my slide completely. The reason being I had way too many photos on my first slide and I did not use presentation Zen correctly. I feel as though having too many photos is not good and does not work. I learned a whole lot from seeing others present their slides. I learned a lot about presentation Zen from others presenting as well because they used presentation Zen well. Furthermore I wanted my slide to be my best work and I believe that my second slide is better than my first slide. Overall I believe that my second slide is much better than my first slide.

I changed the background to the solid blue color because that is what I wanted to do originally but I didn't know how to. It looks better, isn't as distracting, and helps the pictures and text pop. It is also nice and bright and contrasts with the bright orange text.
I moved over and enlarged the picture of the watermelon to have it bleed, which I had forgotten to do the first time. Also, I wanted to draw more attention to it.
I changed the font because it was kind of distracting and complex, and I decided that it would be and look better as something simpler.
I simplified the 3 pictures into 1 idea that incorporates all of them to keep it simple while still including lots of information.

Media Fluency

The reason I made my slide look the way it does is because those are the things that describe me in the most simple way. It has my 3 favorite sports (dance counts as a sport!), my favorite things and my name and the word “me”. Since the entire slide is about me I thought I’d incorporate “glance media”. I added size, unity and texture. The size of the word “ME” and my name is like that so people focus more about the fact that’s about me and then who I am comes after that. Unity, the way it all comes together. Like the soccer ball and the point shoes, and the over lapping of things. Then texture comes from the iPhone being slightly 3D and the background having ridged lines. I choose to do all these things to make the slide as simple yet eye catching and easy to understand.

Before I tell you why I made my slide the way it is, I will tell you that what solely influenced me to make the decisions I made was the rubric instructions and the Presentation Zen website. Now back to business. First I put a picture of myself to make it a visual theme that someone would just have to look at once to know it was about me. Next I only made one point and that is that I am “half seen, half witted.” This also is meant for only a three second glance to know what it is. I purposely made it cryptic and vague so the audience will half to listen to me speaking to understand it. I then made the word “ ME” in big white text on black background to get the attention of the audience. I used contrast by changing colors, font, and size for each text to make the slide more interesting. Another reason I did this is to make the audience think that this is more important than it really is and to give the audience a “WOW” thought. I purposely made my Last Name and Picture bleed because one it went with the “Half Seen, Half Witted” phrase and because it gives it a better artistic look that is appealing to the audience. The rule of thirds in my slide allows the viewer to get their eye caught by the big picture of me and then drawn to the words giving them a better understand of what my slide is about. I used empty space to give it a more mysterious but yet artistic look. I purposely did a black back drop instead of a white because black seems new and appealing while white is the first variant. It makes the viewer feel like it is important. My slide has a visual theme for the mix of pictures, colorful words, and exotic black back drop.
Me
Reflection:
Looking back at the critique I began to matriculate that the cinched, lucid, and unambiguous slide design is more often aggrandized by the monotonous audience. A monumental confabulation inscribed on a slide show is paroxysm to the benighted, and perhaps even moronic, musters. Not only that, but it distracts them from the real picture which is what transpires from the vocal cords in your throat. The persisting sound during phonation is no amalgamation with culminating knowledge. You want your assemblage to be completely ken to what you are saying; therefore your slide should have as little as possible along with the most meaning. This alone can be vindicating enough, so the elementary way to do this might be challenging. The idea is to have your point unequivocal to give the onlookers the topic in diminutive amount of time. Maybe more importantly, it is salient to have the slide visually appealing. You don't want to lose your 'people' just because you are too intwined into sloth to care. These articulations have a perfect panorama on why I changed my slide to a mild but tenacious introduction to 'ME'.

YATW

Hello, My name is Isabella Blackwell, I am a freshman at Science Leadership Academy. This year in Mrs. Dunn’s English Class, all students had to choose a specific topic that we felt strongly about to become agents of change. The topic I chose was to learn about what causes children to go into hospitals and why they are so appreciative unlike kids my age who aren’t in hospitals. I wanted to basically go and see why they act this way, and compare it to real life. Also, to give talk to kids in hospitals and give them “support’.

Many people don’t know or care to understand that life is harder for many people other than themselves. Usually people cry over not getting to go to a party or getting your phone taken awa,y from them. I realized that even I do this too. Kids in hospitals are on deathbeds and their parents not knowing if their kids are going to be alive.

At CHOP, there are many kids that are survivors of many things. One kid named Will had a lot of things wrong with him. He had UPJ and kidney stones. The hard part about it was that there wasn’t even any symptoms or signs that he had these disorders. He was only 3 years old when doctors told him that something was wrong. But in the end, he was very greatfull that he was able to come over it and still become a great kid. Meanwhile, kids like me dont understand what it is to have something this serious happen in your life.

Another child that has had a really rough time “growing up” was Hadi. Hadi had to have reconstructive surgery. He had problems in a private area and wa very young when it started. There were so many questions on why this was happening to him. Thats why I was so concerned about people not seeing past their stupid problems about getting in trouble or just drama.

I want to put my focus on talking to kids in hospitals and seeing how they adapt to life basically “living” in the hospital. I want to go to CHOP and do what I said above. But overall, I am really interested in seeing what it is that keeps these kids so motivated and thankful.
