Bethany Carter's skit

Rachel, a reporter from New York, just got of a plane from Florida. She is currently looking for Ana who she will be living with as she works on an article for a small paper about Spanish restaurants in Florida.

Rachel: Well here I am. Hopefully I can find where I need to go.

Ana:(walks up to Rachel) Are you Rachel?

Rachel: Yes, are you Ana? It’s so good to be here. Do you mind if we get right to work? We don’t have a lot of time.

Ana: Sure, but do you not have the whole week?

Rachel: Unfortunately I have to leave tomorrow night so this article will be able to get in the paper in time. I was thinking that today I could interview you so that I could have most of tomorrow to write the article.

Ana: Well I will be having some friends over for dinner but that should not get in the way.

Seen two

They have finished the interview and Rachel feels that the article wont be good. Ana’s friend Maria just walked in.

Ana: Hola Maria.

Maria: Yo necesito dejo. Tango muchos problemas por que trabajo. No necesito la periodista hará más problemas.

Rachel: Yo no hago problemas para tú.

Maria: Yo habla español?

Rachel: Un pequeño. (turning to Ana) What kinds of problems does she have at work?

Ana: She works at a tomato farm. It’s not a good job.

Rachel: Well ask her if she will be willing to talk about it. The article is going no were and it might help her out if people knew about the problem.

Ana: She won’t do it, she would get in trouble.

Rachel: But I would not use her name or say anything that will point to her. Tell her that if she is up to it to come here tomorrow morning so I can get the information before I leave.

Seen three

Maria has decided to talk to Rachel as Ana translates.

Ana: I work in a tomato field. For a 32 lb I make 45 cents. Sometimes we are not paid at all for mouths.

Ana: Supermarkets have a lot of influence. The CIW is demanding that supermarkets pay one cent more per pound. Most have agreed. Trader Joe’s is avoiding agreement.

Rachel: Wow, I never though that in this day and age something like this could be in America.

Ana: Because almost no one knows about it.

Rachel: There must be something we can do.

Ana: The best thing to do is to get the word out like your article. No one can do it on their own but if many people work together we can make a difference.

This is my own slide that I had made for my presentation in Technology. To create my own proper slide is that I had learned from the websites such as Apple.com and others. The website that I had mostly used and learned from, was from the site apple. There was a video that I was showed in class and showed me how to use the tool alpha. The tool alpha helped me a lot to create my slide. Alpha wasn’t the only tool but there were others tools like the text box, font, and inspector. Apple wasn’t the only website that I had research on. There was another website but I haven’t pay much attention to it, but it had inspire me to do my slide and inspire me to be creative. In the slide there are quotes I had gave to myself as advice. These advice and quotes that I had put in my slide, shows and represent me as myself never giving up and that I have faith to keep moving forward.

trader Joes is basically taking advantage of the Mexicans and are getting tomatoes cheaper than everyone else because they know that the mexicans can not fight fight back but are still abusing the workers by giving them barely enough to mataining themselves.

Di No a Trader Joe’s

Tomato pickers can’t afford to send their children to school. Their children have to work in fields. They do not have the same rights as the rest of America.
Trader Joe’s refuses to give it’s workers 1 cent more for each box of tomatoes picked. This means a lot. One cent makes a difference to these families.
We need to stop buying their food. We need to boycott and protest Trader Joe’s.

For my slide design I studied the methods of http://www.presentationzen.com/presentationzen/2008/08/learning-from-the-design-around-you-ikea.html- Presentation Zen. Some of his methods were "Color,Size, and Emptiness", I used a few of his methods to focus on throughout my process to make sure the outcome of my slide was put together as well as possible. Also I used the site Ikea.com. Using the images posted on the second website helped give me a visual representation of my slide should look like.

Color: My Background color is a pitch black which is a cool color but when i made my text a pastel pink the two colors complimented each other which gave it a nice contrast.

Size:The size of my images was very important because if two big could over power the slide. If done to small it could be simply looked over, so making it the right size was improtant.

Emtiptiness: crowding a slide was another important key if two much was put on one slide the viewer will not know where to focus, but constantly staring at the items that are not important.

Being a tomato picker in Florida is hard work. As a tomato picker, you lift heavy buckets filled with tomatoes over and over again for hours at a time. It's intensive labor that no one wants to do, and what makes this even worse is that they're paid below minimum wage.

As consumers, there's many things that we can do to show the company that we want their workers to have fairer wages. We can protest the store, holding informative signs, telling other customers about the tomatoes and to not buy them. Protesting is a good way to go about this, because it helps us get out message across in a passive way.

I chose the pic because it showing what i am marry to, if i would of just put marry to the game , people was going to ask what game are you marry to. The background is black because it suppose to pop out the image.

What I did about my slide, is that I wrote a few words about me in my favorite color and also that describes me, I also put a picture of me, to show how I do. I put a Mexican flag on my slide because people think I am Asian but i am not.I put red hair dyed because I love dyeing my hair when I am bored and one of my favorite colors is red. I also put a dog on my slide because I love dogs and every kind of animal and I also have two dogs. I put a piercing on my slide because I have my lip pierced and I think its pretty cool. One of my favorite stores is Hot Topic they have awesome stuff and sometimes have what I like; jeans, shirts (with cool writing on them) , another favorite of mine is Hollister I love that store even if they have high prices but there clothes are nice. I have Hello Kitty because she is awesome and so cute, and I just love it !

Lobbying Blog Post #3

According to several different sources that I saw it looks as though many elected officials have agreed with it because I don't see many of them who tried to stop it. And as I look at some of the comments on the websites I see that some parents are furious and don't approve of the curfew. They should have a lot of power because from the looks of things there are many people, not just youth, who don't agree with the new curfew going on. They are saying that it is going to have more youth in jail with unnecessary things on their record then they need. People have written policies to try to stop it and yes they were about what I am addressing, and more.

I need to have some people in higher power because the mayor and the governor are all for the curfew. So either I get people who are higher then them or a lot of people who can try and persuade them. I think I have the support of parents. The mayor and governor have the most power in this situation and I'm not totally sure how to stop them, or make my point known for that matter. I think I need to move every decision maker because if I'm not mistaken the most of the voters that voted on this bill were pro instead of con.

I'm not sure who all is working on it but I do know that there are a lot of concerns. I know a couple of my classmates are doing the same topic but I'm not sure who they are. I don't see anymore dates for meetings about it or anything. From the looks of things it seems as though they don't want or care about the publics opinion anymore.

The Triangles on Grays Ferry Gateway Project has been on a hiatus since its last Community Meeting on March 29th. Some major names were present at such as Terri Paone from the Presidents Anna Verna City Council Office. Also State Representative Babette Josephs was there in the break out groups.

Babette Josephs, State Representative, lives near by Grays Ferry and in the meeting she stated that she "has been watching this effort very closely, that the future of this area will be decided by the neighbors, and that what ever decisions are made she will be there to help out!" As the State Representative of the 182nd District she controls a office in Grays Ferry, a District office on Walnut St., and another House of Representatives office in Harrisburg. Honestly who knows how much assistance can she be for the rapid recreation of Grays Ferry?

As for Terri Paone, I wasn't able to find much background about her. Terri is a member of the (PHCD) Philadelphia Housing Development Corporation Board of Directors. Her presence at the citizen group meeting doesn't seem to useful in pushing forward for the actual changes of Grays Ferry but although Paone could contribute good ideas for the structure and design of improving the area.

and SOSCDC.

With the help of all these local organizations the community was able to have hired 2 traffic engineers from the Philadelphia Streets Department to review the map, traffic flow, and local business import and exporting areas. At the meeting that I attended last year the engineers where there for the first time and presented many different blue prints of re-mapping the area.

Here are the blue prints represented in detail of the 5 important safety issues that the community wanted the engineers to tackle:

(Since the meeting before the one in March there seems to be no new additions to the blue prints itself)

This is just that time where not much, or any at all, action is being taken for the Gateway Project. Now, Im not saying that the citizens, organizations, and the whole community is just lying on their back and giving up but that this is not the right time to focus on a single area of Philadelphia when America is struggling itself. I believe that in a couple years when the economy is back on track Grays Ferry would be first in line to receive notice from City Hall accepting much needed recreation.

Philadelphia Curfew Law Update

My lobbying topic was Philadelphia Minor Curfew. Since the summer is over and school has resumed the curfew hasn't had the same publicity it had in the summer time. Beings though less kids are out during the school year at unreasonable hours the curfew law isn't pushed as hard as it was in the summer time. Just recently the curfew was just passed as a law and would not only apply to University City & Center City but throughout the entire city.Within the next 2 years the city has to prove the effectiveness of the curfew law to the City's Council. The Mayor agrees that this curfew will not stop the violence in the city but it's a good start towards it. Many of the city's residents disagree to this law says it's just a way to punish the youth.

Music Melodies Compose My Thoughts

techppt
I chose black so the white letters and white earphones are emphasized.

The picture of me is very simple and I have a very intricate swirl of thoughts representing music. I speak music to represent I represent it. Note that the word are Qis not very important, so it is relatively smaller.

From http://zachholman.com/posts/slide-design-for-developers/, I learned that a slide should not cram info. From http://www.presentationzen.com/presentationzen/2008/08/learning-from-the-design-around-you-ikea.html I learned that there are certain colors that contrast , so I have a black background. From, http://www.apple.com/iwork/tutorials/#pages-hero I learned how to use Keynote’s Alpha.

http://buzzmarketing.com/2010/11/26/advertising-techniques/ taught me to  use the word “you” or “your” far more than “I” “me” or “we.” And to make things pop out.

I bled my picture out the side and made the headphones pop out against the black. My thoughts of music spiral from my head into ooblivion. There is a minimum of words on my slide. They are absolutely relavant. And they are tilted slightly

Here is a Slide Design I thought was a good resource.
I learned that having a bold color stand out would make your slide look better. And having a item replacing a letter makes it look nice and would catch you eye.

Here is another Slide Design that I though was good aswel.
It help me out because having a million words on word slide which makes the reader go crazy. So put your words in simpler form.

When I read then Zen link I learned that the picture can bleed of the page. And also I learned that the slide should have a cycle so the eyes of the reader will go around and around and around.

I chose the theme of before and after. The reason for this is because as i grew I released what life really was and that you cant depend of everyone and you have to do things by yourself but you still need help. Just like a flower, it grows on its own but it still needs water and sunlight to grow beautiful and strong.

I followed all of the rules from Ms. Hull’s rubric and www.zachholman.com…

1) DESIGN (Color, Size, and Shape)

2) KNOWLEDGE

3) APPLICATION

4) PRESENTATION

5) PROCESS

- One slide.

- A visual theme.

- Make “Size” matter!

With the above rules in my head I created a slide with diverse color, big readable text, and connected my visual graphic with my text too tell a story.

I first started off thinking about my life and what I want to do with my life. I knew I wanted to succeed in life and go down the right path. So I decided to put A PATH TO SUCCESS. Then I decided to put a path with men going in the right direction because they want to succeed like me. Also I thought it was a good idea to put a success point, when they reach there access point. I pick these certain colors because it my favorite color and it expresses me.

I used this because it gave me a idea how to express myself and how to support my words.

On my presentation I made sure that I had a counteracting of COLORS from the CONTRAST of the darker red to the black the the lighter red fonts. Also i made sure the SIZE of the fonts that were more important were larger then that of the other fonts. Also the SIZE of the pictures compared to the fonts are a little larger. Also the alignment and patterns of the pictures were in corners.
