The Pitbulls Lie

At one point in all of our lives we have all been told something that is not true and believed it without doing our own research on the topic. A good example of this is the classic “sAntA iSn’t rEaL” but back to my point. What if I told you that I can prove one of those wrong? Pitbulls have recently achieved a negative reputation because of their reports of attacks on humans and other dogs, but what they do not share is the dog's history or the background on the owner. Pitbulls have long been known as helping family dogs but recently their reputation has been dragged through the mud. Now this wouldn't be that big of a problem if the full story was presented. Pitbulls and many other dog breeds have been banned from states, cities, and even countries but for what reason? Lets start all the way from the beginning, Pitbulls have been documented all the way back since 1903. The dog was originally bred by humans to be used in war but was also known as a kind loving family dog but starting around the 60s, an illegal act called “dog fighting “ was on the rise in popularity and this is believed to have been the start of the pitbulls bad reputation. Breeders around this time would only breed specific dogs hoping to pass down their aggressive genes to the next generation. Another lie we’ve all been told is pitbulls having one of the most amount of attacks on humans statistically but this is yet again something that isn't true. One reason for their high record is misidentification. According to several studies on canine DNA, a majority of dogs that were identified as pitbull type dogs ( by shelters, owners, and the media ) do not have any dna from pitbull type ancestry and the dogs that did have dna from them had less than 50% And ontop of this there are still other factors not being counted into the “statistics” While were on the topic of statistics, in one study with the american pit bull terrier, 755 out of 870 passed giving them a 86% passing rate. To put this into perspective, the loving golden retriever had a 85.2% passing rate. In another study from 2011 the american pitbull passed with 86.4% with the golden retriever at 84.9 and chihuahuas at 71. To put it simply, the pitbulls reputation isn’t at all what the media and other sources are trying to get you to believe. Pitbulls and all other dogs each have unique personalities just like humans. They’re personalities are built up from the experiences they get growing up and even later on in life and the owners of these animals are just as liable for pit bull attacks as the dog who committed it. A solution to this is to make stricter requirements/training for owning a dog and making the owners of them more responsible for the actions of their dogs. sources: https://www.google.com/url?q=https://wildcatvoice.org/3451/opinion/is-the-negative-reputation-of-the-pitbull-deserved/&sa=D&source=editors&ust=1619108351795000&usg=AOvVaw19A9PE0nP4l0VTLwACQdUh https://www.pitbullinfo.org/inaccurate-pit-bull-statistics.html#:~:text=The%20misidentification%20of%20pitbull%2Dtype,mixes%2C%20and%20too%20many%20more https://www.aspca.org/about-us/aspca-policy-and-position-statements/position-statement-pit-bulls
