Proyecto de Conversación: Slapdash Endings

Annisa Ahmed
Español lll, D Band
Conversation Project: Week Five

Antes de Conversación:
What will your topic of conversation be?
Either trends/clothing styles or trying to find out what the other does for a living.
What are you looking forward to about this conversation?
Well, I am mostly looking forward to an ongoing conversations that will hopefully be the longest ones yet.
What are your nervous about?

Nothing in particular, I just want it to go well.

Después de Conversación:
Who did you speak with and why did you choose them?
As always, people pop up and I join the conversation.
What did you learn about them?
I am now aware that Mauro is from Chile and works as a tour.
How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your goal?
It was more of a dud than what I was used to. Along with the other talks I have had this week, most of the people have asked for my Facebook name or a Skype username, neither of which I have, so yeah.
What did you do well according to your goals?
Not really. The convo was not really long nor did I get to really ask any of the questions I wanted to.
What specifically do you need to improve on?
Staying on task because time and time again, I jump around and never really get on the topics I planned on. Plus, I get distracted pretty easily.

Las cazuelas

Tuesday from 2:00-3:00 my spanish one class had an all spanish cuisine for lunch, which was very delicious. There wasn't one thing that I did not like. Me being a picky eater, that's a really big thing. I wanted to eat another whole plate, but I was full from my lunch that I had 2 hours ago. I actually forgot that we had the lunch in that day, but that's beside the point. I really enjoyed the food and the drinks that were served. The drinks were like a mixture of thing that you wouldn't really find in regular drink. My favorite drink was the white one with the cinnamon. It reminded me a lot of egg nog. The red one was good as well,  but the white stood out the most to me. Our class should do things like this more often. I like hands on learning and this was a perfect way to help me learn my spanish food.

The luncheon had my class trying new foods and experiencing a part of another culture. I learned that it is definitely great to be open minded, because there is a good chance that you'll find something great... like the awesome tres leches cake.

Las Cazuelas

We had a very good luncheon during Spanish class. The food was fantastic and very enjoyable to eat. We kept on eating and eating. Next thing you know that your plate is empty. A lot of people went to get their second plate. I had to admit, I was one of them. My favorite was the tacos dorados. It was very crispy. And for dessert, we had a piece of cake. But some had more than one. It was kind of like a buffet, which I like. Almost forgot, the drink that I had was amazing. I believe it was rice milk. I learn that there are many foods out there that I haven't tried. And I'm glad that I tried everything that was available. It was the best experience form the beginning of the luncheon to the end.

Blog Post 5

I finished my last conversation with my partner and I found it to be very interesting. I learned that he is very involved with his church and enjoys working with young people. It helped me realize that lots of people are involved with their church and it is a good thing. I think this was a very strong conversation and I understood a lot more I think.

$$ Crisis Financiera En Perú (Quinto Objectivo) $$

lmaperu
lmaperu
Economic Center of Peru.
Conversation Question: How is the current global economic crisis affecting people in foreign countries?

Pre-Conversation:

•  What will be your topic of conversation be?

I will talk about how the financial crisis is affecting people in their everyday lives. We learned about "Huelga total en la enseñanza" in Spain but we still need to learn about this same situation in other countries.

•  What are 5 questions related to your conversation goal that you can think of ahead of time to ask your partner?

1. How has the global financial crisis affected you and your family?

2. Are there budget cuts in education?

3. How do you save money?

4. Are things like groceries and fuel more expensive?

5. Do you think life will improve soon?

•  What are you looking forward to about this conversation?

I am looking forward to learning more about how the economic crisis is affecting people across the globe. I am excited to learn about the outlook of the people and how they are coping. We have learned about the issues facing Spain and the cuts that were made to the education system but I want to expand this to other countries.

•  What are you nervous about?

I am a little nervous about this conversation because this is an advanced topic and I might not know all the vocabulary words that I will probably need. This is why did did now some prior work trying to get some of the essential vocabulary words that I will need for my conversation.

Post-Conversation:

Reflection:

• Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?

I spoke with Hector Paisanocharca from Lima, Peru. I wanted to talk to Hector because he is 38 years old and he is likely to know more about the financial situation in his country.

• What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

Hector told me that the financial crisis did not affect Peru as much as it did other countries. However, Peru has seen a rise in the price of goods and services. Hector also said that the economy of Peru is seeing less growth. On the family level, he says that people have to spend more money for the same products than they did before. Hector says that he had to cut back on spending to save money. I also learned that sometimes the prices of gas and groceries sometimes double in Peru. Hector is very optimistic and thinks that life will get better soon. I also told Hector the life int he United States has gotten very hard for some people and prices are higher. People here in the US are also trying to save money by spending less.

• How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

I learned many new spanish vocab words from this interaction with Hector. I also got to learn about the financial struggles of people in Peru while at the same time sharing information about the economic impact here in the United States. Finally, I got to use my existing spanish language to form sentences and ask questions of Hector.

• What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

One of the things that I did well is that I went into this conversation not knowing anything about the financial situation in Peru but came out with a vast amount of knowledge. The conversation flowed very easily and I responded to Hector's questions very quickly. I used my five pre-conversation questions to push the conversation along in the direction I intended. I also used different verb tenses in my conversation with the  correct conjugations.

• What specifically do you need to improve on?

Over the course of all my blog posts, I have managed to improve on my conversation skills and for my fifth blog post, I am proud to say that I don't think I need to improve on anything except for small errors such as punctuation. I also need to improve a little on my spelling but I did excellent in other areas such as conjugation.

Las Cazuelas

Introduction:

En ingles por favor. As Spanish 1 came to an end, we learned and had a lot of fun. During the weeks of our last course, we learned about the different hispanic cultures like Pruebla, Perú, and Poblano. Within the different cultures, we learned that their foods are created very differently than american foods. This week, we were thrilled to have a catered lunch with Las Cazuelas Restaurant and we were astonished on how great the foods were.

Las Cazuelas

On May 22,2012 my Spanish 1 class was lucky enough to experience what the Spanish speaking world had to offer up close! We had the chief and preperators from the successful resturant Las Cazuelas come visit us and bring food. We were encouraged to try everything, and the meal was overall delicious! I enjoyed the oppritunity and am thankful for their visit. ¡Buen provecho!

Spanish Blog

For this blog post me and Estafan talked about his favorite celebrity.  It was odd because his favorite sport is Soccer and he plays soccer, but his favorite celebrity was Kevin Durant, whom happens to be a basketball player.  He also said that his favorite basketball team was the OKC Thunder, and they are believed to win the NBA championship this year, so we talked about that and he believes that they would win the championship because they are a young team who are fast and strong and very athletic.

Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
I spoke to Marco. He is cool I guess, and we had a long discussion, but I was only able to ss one small part of our discussion.

What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
I learned that he learned English for two years and Russian for a little while, I learned how he did it, his reasons and…. Then we just talked about our lives in both languages.

How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?
My goal was and is to find out about people’s language skills, which means that this one obviously helped a lot.

What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

I… simply learned about him. I did not follow my goal too much, but for a good chunk of our discussion, I did, so… yea!

Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?

I spoke to Jesus from spain. I choose him because he was from Spain and I heard spain had a major strike so I talked to him.

What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
I learned about his some spanish activities he does in spain. I also learn that there are Cheesesteaks in spain. The are called Filadelfia Cheesesteaks. There. Finally I learned about the Strike. He said it was all the governments fault for not paying the schools.

How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?
I forgot what my original goal was so I changed it to learning about the strike. I helped me a lot by letting me understand in a spanish persons eyes what the strike was all about.

What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?
I did well asking questions about the topic and having follow up questions so the situation wouldn't be awkward/.

What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
I said Cheesesteaks in english. I don't know what the spanish translation was but  he at least got it.

Yang- Conversacíon #5

  • Who you spoke with and why you chose that partner?

I spoke with this girl from Venezuela named Zulelulsmar. She started the conversation.
  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

She's a petroleum engineer and also a bit about Venezuelan holidays. How it gets out of control and crazy during holidays.
  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goals?

Learned how to properly arrange certain sentences.
  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

I think I did well in at least being able to interpret what she was trying to say. I do need to improve on sentence structures and the proper use of vocabs. Such as "si, soy un estudiante" or "no estudio en la universidad, en escuela secundaria"

Rosie Flite Q4 Post 1

In this I have 25 of my favorite photos (all taken by me) and I edited them using photoshop and also Iphoto. I tried to use different effects to make the photo look like something completely different. I also did the crayon melting piece of art where you glue down crayons and put the blow dryer over them to make them melt down. I put a twist to it though by using a dark blue background verus the traditional white canvas. To see any of this look through the slideshow shown below.

In the second slideshow I included my favorite photos from the entire quarter, I edited them to a way that made them look more appealing and they are also all taken by me. I liked doing photography because you get to go out and see the world in a different way, through the eye of the camera.

Our luncheon was about tryng new Spanish foods and comparing/contrasting it with American food. I experienced how Spanish food has different twists than we do. I learned that they make their food creativly like the juice from flour. I enjoyed the tres leche the most.

Me encanta la tres leche pastel.

Flour, tres leches, icing

¡Es muy muy muy delicioso!

Y me gusta el beber - jugo de flour

flour, hojas de té

Es bueno.
